Abstract

Combinatorial thinking is a way of thinking in solving combinatory problems. Combinatory problems are one of the difficult problems for students to solve. This study aims to analyses students combinatorial thinking processes in solving problems. Given two combinatory problems that consist of problems with multiplication rule and combination. The Problems were given to two 11th grade senior-high school students. The results obtained were that there was a tendency for male Participants to do the two different ways which are direct counting and using diagram. The female participants did the work with one way which is direct counting. On more complex issues, namely about combination, students' thinking models go through stages of set of outcomes. From this research, it is expected that combinatory material learning is emphasized on the discovery of formulas by students themselves inductively, especially deductively. So that in this case the students interpret the combinatory formula more.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a mathematics handout based on local wisdom nuanced to increase the mathematical problem-solving skill of the Secondary students. This research is motivated by the students ability to solve the social arithmetic problem. This study used four phases of developmental research such as Investigation, Design, Realization, and Test, Evaluation, and Revision. The characteristics of local wisdom were acquired within the design or context in the mathematics handout to develop secondary students problem-solving skills. The results show that the students do the stages of problem-solving by Polya, get the maximum score and show students positive responses in the questionnaire given. Therefore, it met the proper handout criteria such as valid, practice, and effective. In the future studies, we encouraged to develop learning materials which have a guide to do phases of problem-solving and apply the way to solve some problems in mathematics.

Abstract

Batik Gedog Tuban is a famous Batik in Tuban. This batik has a variety of motifs/patterns with a variety of colors. This research is a qualitative descriptive with an ethnographic approach, and this research aims to analyze the mathematical value within Batik Gedog Tuban. Data collections were conducted by the study of literature, observation, interview, note, and documentation. The results show that there are several mathematical concepts contained in Batik Gedog Tuban, such as geometry concepts, geometry transformation, and congruence.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis sikap serta keyakinan calon guru matematika mengenai penggunaan sejarah matematika dalam pembelajaran. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa calon guru matematika dari Sembilan perguruan tinggi keguruan yang tersebar di Indonesia. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui pengisian angket sikap dan keyakinan penggunaan sejarah matematika dalam pembelajaran matematika. Item angket sikap dan keyakinan terdiri dari dua ketegori yaitu sikap dan keyakinan diri terhadap pemanfataan sejarah matematika serta sikap dan keyakinan terhadap kemampuan diri dalam memanfaatkan sejarah matematika. Analisis deskriptif kuantitatif digunakan untuk menganalisis angket sikap dan keyakinan. Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa sikap dan keyakinan pemanfaatan sejarah matematika secara keseluruhan berada pada level sedang, sementara keyakinan diri dalam menggunakan sejarah matematika dalam pembelajaran skornya masih rendah. Sikap dan keyakinan positif terhadap integrasi sejarah matematika dalam pembelajaran tersebut mengimplikasikan bahwa sebagian calon guru setuju bahwa sejarah matematika merupakan materi yang penting tidak hanya sebagai sebuah subjek materi tersendiri, namun sebagai subjek materi yang dapat terintegrasi dalam pembelajaran matematika.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menghasilkan profil pemecahan masalah siswa dengan jenis gaya belajar dan jenis kelamin yang berbeda dalam menyelesaikan masalah geometri. Sebanyak enam subjek diseleksi dengan mempertimbangkan variasi gaya belajar visual, auditori, dan kinestetik dan jenis kelamin. Data diperoleh melalui perekaman secara audiovisual dengan melakukan wawancara semi terstruktur berbasis tugas pemecahan masalah geometri kemudian. Data ini kemudian dianalisis dengan tahap reduksi, validasi, dan penyajian data menurut langkah-langkah pemecahan masalah Polya. Secara umum, tidak perbedaan yang signifikan pada profil pemecahan masalah geometri siswa laki-laki dan perempuan bergaya belajar visual, tetapi untuk keempat subjek lain menunjukkan bahwa subjek laki-laki lebih unggul daripada perempuan dalam tata ruang visual tetapi subjek perempuan lebih hati-hati dan akurat dalam proses pemecahan masalah yang dilakukan. Hasil penelitian ini berimplikasi pada rekomendasi pengajaran matematika yang dapat memfasilitasi pembelajaran geometri sesuai dengan karakteristik gaya belajar visual, auditori, dan kinestetik dalam kelas.

Abstract

Knowing the mathematization process was important for teacher. In solving problem, students were using their mathematization process. This research aimed to describe the horizontal and vertical mathematization process of junior high school students with high mathematical ability in solving contextual problem of fraction. This research was descriptive qualitative research. The research subjects was determined by mathematical ability test (TKM). Thirty four students of chosen class were given mathematical ability test (TKM). Then, they were divided into three groups based on the ability which were high ability, medium ability, and low ability group. Researcher took one subject from high ability group to be research subject. Then, researcher gave the profile mathematization process test (TPPM). The semi-structured interview was utilized to invstigate the answered of TPPM. The result of this research were: the high mathematical ability subject passed through all of activity in horizontal mathematization such as; identified the mathematical concept that is relevant to the problema; represented the problem in different ways; found the relations between problem language and the formal mathematic symbol; found the regularities, relations, pattern in problem; transfered the problem into mathematical model. The high mathematical ability subject also passed through all of activity in vertical mathematization such as; used the variety of different representation; used symbols, language, and formal mathematical process; made adjustments and development of mathematical models, combined, and united various models; created a mathematical argument; and generalized.

Abstract

Penelitian ini didasari pada rendahnya siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita materi perbandingan terutama di Kota Cimahi pada saat ini.  Faktor yang mempengaruhi rendahnya siswa dalam soal cerita materi perbandingan salah satunya adalah perbedaan gender. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan kesalahan siswa dalam memahami soal cerita materi perbandingan yang ditinjau berdasarkan perbedaan gender. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif yang pengumpulan data nya berupa gambaran dan kalimat yang diuraikan. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah siswa SMP kelas VIII di Cimahi. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini adalah dengan memberikan tes berupa soal uraian materi perbandingan. Hasil tes dianalisis dan mengacu pada aspek dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita matematika yakni: aspek bahasa, aspek prasyarat dan aspek terapan. Berdasarkan hasil  penelitian, menunjukkan bahwa siswa laki-laki dan siswa perempuan masih kurang dalam soal cerita materi perbandingan. Jika ditinjau dalam perspektif gender, siswa  laki-laki belum mampu menafsirkan soal cerita dengan baik dan benar sehingga strategi penyelesaian dan perhitungannya pun salah. Sedangkan siswa perempuan masih mampu untuk menafsirkan soal ke dalam model matematika dan lebih termotivasi dalam pengerjaan soal dibandingkan  siswa laki-laki.

Abstract

Difficulties experienced by students in learning greatly affect the achievement of student learning outcomes. This study aims to describe the results of the identification of the types of difficulties and the causes of student difficulties when solving problems based on Polya stages. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with the instrument used in written tests. The subjects of the research were 36 students of class IX at SMP Negeri 9 Cimahi. Based on the analysis that has been done, it can be concluded that the difficulties experienced by junior high school students when completing the Pythagorean theorem questions in the school are 1) difficulty understanding the problem 100%, 2) difficulty planning the completion of 40%, 3) difficulty implementing the plan 54.4%, and 4) difficulty in re-checking 76.7%. The causes of difficulties include 1) students are not accustomed to writing things that are known and asked of a problem 2) students are not accustomed to drawing conclusions from a mathematical problem 3) Concept errors because students do not understand the concept of the material. So, it is necessary to improve the learning process that prioritizes learning concepts rather than memorizing. Students must be accustomed to solving the application problems of a material. So, students will be able to solve contextual problems related to the material.

Abstract

This research uses quantitative descriptive methods. The subjects of this study were 28 students of class VIII Al Bisyri Islamic Middle School. Data obtained by observation, questionnaire, and written test. ADDIE development model (Analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). Data collection instruments used in the form of learning media questionnaires, student response questionnaires, rational test results. From the results of the research process obtained the value of media experts with an average score of 87.08 (good category), while the mathematics teacher material experts obtained an average score of 88.57 (very good category) so that the media included in the valid category. From the results of the practicality of Powtoon animation video learning media obtained an average score of 84.96 (practical categories), so that it meets the practical aspects in terms of effective, interactive, interesting, efficient, and creative. Whereas based on the posttest value which is higher than the pretest value, the posttest value is 81.50 higher than the pretest value of 67.57 that the effective learning media is used. Based on this analysis it can be concluded that the video animation media using Powtoon software has fulfilled valid, practical and effective criteria.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find mathematical elements in the Soko Tunggal Mosque. The research method used in this study is a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. The data used in this study were obtained from observations, documentation, and interviews. Observation and documentation are used to identify ethnomathematics in the Soko Tunggal Mosque, while documentation and interviews with the triangulation method to find out more deeply the cultural values that exist in the Soko Tunggal Mosque. From the results of the study found the concept of field geometry in the Soko Tunggal Mosque. Geometry elements identified include triangles, squares, rectangles, rhombus, circles and reflection. So that in learning mathematics on the material triangles, squares, rectangles, rhombus, circles, and reflection can use the context of a Soko Tunggal mosque.
