Abstract

Aluminum alloy 6061 series has been used extensively in the manufacturing industry. This aluminum material was chosen because it has many advantages. The level of superiority of aluminum can be seen in terms of good machining ability, perfect surface finish, good level of corrosion resistance, and high strength. In this research, the samples used 6061 series aluminum alloy, and an artificial aging process was carried out with temperature variations of 150ᴼC, 175ᴼC, 200ᴼC, and a holding time of 8 hours. Following this, measurements were performed for hardness, impact, and microstructural observations. The research shows that the mechanical properties of the alloy after the artificial aging process tend to decrease as temperature variations increase, for the hardness value obtained at 150ᴼC is 57.34 HRB, 175ᴼC is 55.42 HRB, 200ᴼC is 46.12 HRB. For the impact value, the optimal value was obtained at a temperature of 150ᴼC with a value of 41.4 J/mm2. When the microstructure was examined, it was discovered that each specimen's AlMg2Si compound was the consequence of the artificial aging process.

Abstract

Solid waste management problems have become a common problem in Indonesia. Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics' Environmental Care Behavior Indicator in 2017, it shows that 58.32% of Indonesians do not sort their waste. Kalimantan Institute of Technology (ITK) is a campus that carries the concept of eco-campus. Waste segregation has been programmed, but in reality in the field, waste segregation is not running. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of knowing the preferences and participation of ITK academic community in waste segregation at ITK. The survey results showed that out of 380 respondents, although 90% had seen posters about waste segregation at ITK, only 57.6% stated that they had done waste segregation at ITK, which was mostly based on the factor of facilitating management both by ITK and at the landfill. For the other 44.2% of respondents who do not or only sometimes do waste segregation, it was found that the biggest factor that made them do so was based on the desire to segregate at the beginning, but when opening the trash can, the waste inside was already mixed.

Abstract

Banana peel has a high potassium content, including the presence of the radioactive element K-40. As one of the beta emitters, K-40 has the potential to be a natural radioactive material for use as a betavoltaic nuclear battery source. In this study, the levels of K-40 content and radioactivity of kepok banana peel (Musa Acuminata Balbisiana) and ambon banana peel (Musa Paradisiaca), local varieties from the Balikpapan region, will be examined. Banana peel samples are first dried to reduce the water content and then processed into dry powder by heating for 20 hours. The mass and water content before and after the drying process are tested to observe shrinkage and its effects on the level of radioactivity. XRF testing is conducted to determine the potential potassium content of each sample. Radioactivity levels are measured using a Geiger Counter survey meter with sensitivity in the energy range of 50 KeV - 1.5 MeV. From the drying results, a greater decrease in mass is observed in kepok banana peel compared to ambon banana peel, accompanied by a significant reduction in water content. XRF test results indicate that the drying temperature has an effect on the emitted X-ray intensity. The activity content in kepok banana peel samples is found to be higher than in ambon banana peel. An estimated quantity of kepok and ambon banana peels needed to achieve the required 1 mCi activity for the nuclear battery is approximately 1.1 tons and 1.3 tons, respectively.

Abstract

Number Box Toys are children’s toys for children aged 1 to 4 years, designed to help children develop their cognitive and motor skills and learn about different number shapes and colors, including the number 0 to 9. The aim of developing this educational game prototype is to provide a visual image of the product and determine the production cost of the Number Box Toys product which is manufactured using 3D printing machine. Before making a prototype, Number Box Toys product design was created in 2D and 3D using Solidwork software, and then a Bill of Materials (BOM) and Operation Process Chart (OPC) were created. When producing the Number Box Toys prototype, simulation software was used using the Creality Slicer application to show the total time required to produce a Number Box Toys product, which was approximately 1803,78 minutes or 30,063 hours. The total time required to complete the entire operation process chart of Number Box Toys is 1822,78 minutes or about 30,38 hours, with details of 57 operation processes and 18 inspection processes. The results of calculating the production cost of the Number Box Toys educational game based on the total time required, material prices and labor costs resulted in a production cost value of Rp 404.690,89 and the selling price is Rp 465.383,03 with a profit of 15% of the cost price is Rp 60.702,13. There is a significant price difference compared to similar products sold on the market because Number Box Toys’ product prototype is made using 3D printing process, which requires a lot of time to make each part but has a size or shape that can be customized to suit the consumer.
