Abstract

The untreated liquid waste produced from the Tofu industry may pollute the water environment. Phytoremediation may be an alternative method to reduce the contaminant produced. For that reason, the study aimed to analyze the characteristic of tofu liquid waste and analyze the effectiveness of water hyacinth in improving tofu liquid waste quality (nitrate, pH, colour, odour) from the household-scale industry. This research used the 50 gram of water hyacinth for one litter of liquid waste in the experimental test of phytoremediation with three replication. The nitrate concentration, pH, colour and odour was analyzed before and after treatment (the day 5th, 10th and 15th). The result showed the initial characteristic of liquid waste was above the level 4 of water quality standard according to PP RI No.82 in the year 2001 (N 444 mg/l, pH 4,15, colour 1831 Pt-Co, with strong odour). The study proved that water hyacinth was potential to improve tofu liquid waste quality. Nitrate concentration decreases from initial value up to 94%, the value of pH became neutral in ranged of 7, and liquid waste became more transparent found with no strong odour after treatment. It concluded that water hyacinth has a high potential as phytoremediator. Further research should use the other design with other aquatic plant species to improve liquid waste of tofu in the household scale.

Abstract

The cultivation of mud crabs is growing to get crabs in the soft shell condition. But most of the soft shell crab's farmers do not experience sustainable business. The main obstacle is the length of the maintenance period and moulting time does not unison thereby causing the feed and operating costs to be high. The research aimed to examine the effect of injection with forest fern leaf extract on growth rate and moulting speed of mangrove crabs (Scylla serrata) and determine the best dose in the process of injecting forest Fern Leaf extract for mangrove crab (Scylla serrata). Treatment of mangrove crab (Scylla serrata) weight ± 100 g with dose: P1 (NaCL 0.9%) P2 (50 mg.L-1) P3 (75 mg.L-1) P4 (100 mg.L-1) P5 (125 mg.L-1) 5 crabs each are cared for 30 days, The research was conducted using a single complete random draft (RAL), the results of various analyses showed the significant forest fern leaf extract against the growth of absolute weights, the rate of Specific growth, and relative growth, but no noticeable effect for molting speed and absolute length growth. The results of this research showed that a dose of 125 mg.L-1produces the highest value with result for moulting speed of 0.50 ± 0.57, length absolute growth of 0.37 ± 0.1 weighted absolute growth of 20 ± 5,74, specific growth rate of 0.54 ± 0.13, and relative growth of 0.64 ± 0.18.

Abstract

Blue carbon is a carbon stored in the coastal ecosystem such as mangrove ecosystems, seagrass beds and brackish/salty swamps. Seagrass ecosystems can absorb and drain large amounts of carbon from the atmosphere and deposited to tissues or sediments for a long time. The aim of this study was to determine the type, percentage of seagrass cover and carbon stocks in seagrass beds on Poteran Waters. The study was conducted in January - March 2019. Sampling was done by purposive sampling method. Carbon deposit in seagrasses was calculated using the loss on ignition (LOI) method. Seagrass species found on Poteran Island were 7 species, namely Enhalus acoroides, Thalassia hemprichii, Cymodocea serrulata, Cymodocea rotundata and Halodule uninervis, Halophila ovalis and Syringodium isoetifolium. Cymodocea serrulata had the highest density value with value 336 ind/m2 and the highest seagrass cover value was 20.45% by Cymodocea rotundata. The value of biomass under the substrate (4.24 dw.m-2 - 400.5 dw.m-2) is more than the value of biomass on the substrate (2.43 dw.m-2 - 54.52 dw.m-2). Carbon values under the substrate (1.52 gC.m-2 - 141.09 gC.m-2) and above the substrate (0.71 gC.m-2 - 5.83 gC.m-2). The carbon value in the two station was not normally distributed but did not have a significant carbon comparison value using the Mann Whitney U-Test analysis test.

Abstract

The Baturusa River watershed has mining, fishing, industrial, and ship berthing activities. Activities carried out either directly or indirectly in the river can trigger the potential for pollution. Heavy metals are hazardous pollutants which, if present in large quantities, affect various aspects of the waters, both biologically and ecologically. The aim of this study was to determine the concentration of heavy metals Pb and Cd as well as the level of metal contamination of Pb and Cd (CF/ contamination factor, I-Geo/ Geoaccumulation Index) EF/ Enrichment factor) in the sediments of the Baturusa River Estuary, Pangkalpinang City. Heavy metals were analyzed by the AAS method. The concentration of Pb and Cd in the Baturusa River Estuary sediment has not exceeded the limit range based on the quality standards specified in the ISQG and PEL CCME 2002. The value of the heavy metal contamination factor (CF) of Pb found in the Baturusa Estuary sediment ranged from 0.00029–0.00042 ( CF

Abstract

The intertidal zone is an area that is located at the very edge of coastal and marine ecosystems and borders on land ecosystems. It is feared that continuous and environmentally unfriendly fishing will have an impact on the sustainability of bivalves. This research was conducted from February 2021 which aims to determine the diversity of bivalves and the relationship between diversity and environmental parameters. Bivalves data retrieval using a systematic random method consisting of live bivalves and dead shells. Data retrieval is divided into 4 stations, where each station consists of 3 substations. The results obtained 8 species of bivalves that are still alive from 3 families and a total of 143 individuals. Dead shells were obtained by 9 species from 7 families. The highest bivalves density was at station 1, which was 6.21 individual/m2, while the lowest was at station 3, which was 2.44 individual/m2. The highest bivalves diversity was found at station 2 with an H value of 2,05 and the lowest was at station 3 with a value of H'1,66. The index of bivalves diversity on the coast of Pangkalpinang City was in the moderate category due to excessive ecological pressure that could reduce the abundance of organisms and disturb the balance of the ecosystem. The results of principal component analysis (PCA) showed that the density of bivalves was positively correlated with clay, BOT, and TSS. While the diversity of bivalves is influenced by temperature, pH, and salinity.

Abstract

Macrobenthos is one of the organisms that play an essential role in the decomposition process of mangrove plant litter. Other organisms then use the result of the decomposition process in mangrove forests. Still, the existence of these organisms is susceptible to environmental changes, so it is often interpreted as one of the indicators of habitat quality. This research aims to determine the sustainability and diversity of macrobenthos as an indicator of habitat quality in mangrove forests. Data collection is carried out by the plot cluster method. Sample deflating points using purposive sampling. Cluster plots are placed on three observation stations with different conditions, namely natural mangrove forests (station 1), former pond areas (station 2), and areas adjacent to agricultural land (station 3). Each station has three plots measuring 10 x 10 meters to record tree level mangrove vegetation. Each plot has five subplots measuring 1 x 1 meter to take macrobenthos samples. The total number of plots is nine plots for mangrove vegetation and 45 subplots for macrobenthos. The results showed that macrobenthos ability ranged from 10 individuals / m2 to 15 individuals / m2, with the diversity index ranging from 1.49 to 1.73. This condition illustrates that mangrove habitat is included in the medium classification in other words, based on the state of the structure of the biota Bentos community in the mangrove forest in Siantan District, Mempawah regency is fairly a stable category.

Abstract

The feasibility of an area is an important measure to determine its suitability as a tourist area. To determine the value of the suitability index of Kelagian Besar Island as a snorkeling tourism object, research has been carried out using snorkelling area suitability analysis method. The sampling location point is determined by considering the locations that are often used by tourists to swim. Data collection was carried out through direct observation and measurement in the field. The research results were processed using mathematical calculations and analyzed descriptively to determine the suitability class of the area for snorkeling activities. The criteria for the suitability of marine waters as a snorkelling tourism object refers to the criteria proposed by Yulianda (2007). Based on the results of the study, it was found that Kelagian Besar Island is very suitable to be used as a snorkelling tourist spot with a very suitable category (SS). Apart from physical factors, what attracts tourists to snorkel here is the expanse of coral reefs and the types of fish. In order to increase the number of visitors, local governments, both district and province, can carry out promotions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse how the community's perception of protected areas on small islands. Data was collected by interview by questionnaire and observation. The collected data is then analysed using a Likert Scale to measure public perception of the areas, institutions, and tourism potential from areas protected by the community. The results showed that the community's perception of the existence of the protected area was classified high. The area is located on the top of the highest hill on Pahawang Island. The community protects it because there is a sacred site and the forest vegetation around it is still well preserved. In addition, the community realizes that the forest is very important as a water reserve and prevents erosion, but has not been used optimally economically. Perception of the institution is classified high, and it is found that the community is fond of the institution. The community already has an informal agreement to protect and not open the area. This agreement has been obeyed by the community until now, so that the sustainability of the forest is still maintained. The protected area can be used potentially for religious tourism, where the results of public perception is very good. The village government needs to plan good religious tourism also and improvement of facilities and infrastructure, so that the management of this area can improve the welfare of the community and the conservation function is maintained.

Abstract

This research was conducted from December 2021 to February 2022 in Balunijuk Village, Merawang District, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province. The method used primary and secondary data which was analyzed with a qualitative descriptive approach to policy and vaname shrimp culture. The results showed that designing sustainable development must follow the vision, mission, goals, policies, strategies, programs, to the implementation of activities. One of the priority policies related to food and nutrition action plans or food security was by utilizing marine resources. Food security by utilizing resources from the sea was known as the blue economy concept. Sustainable marine development policies required political effectiveness for the benefit of communities and ecosystems. The application of the blue economy concept with vaname shrimp cultivation in biofloc tarpaulin ponds technically required the measurement of standard parameters such as dissolved oxygen (DO), ammonia (NH3), nitrite (NO2), nitrate (NO3), phosphate (PO4), TDS, brightness, depth, water temperature, salinity, and water pH. Water quality data showed that it could still be tolerated, did not exceed its carrying capacity, and was still in standard water conditions for aquaculture. The implementation of vaname shrimp cultivation in biofloc tarpaulin ponds could increase economic benefits in a sustainable manner, increase healthy products with environmentally friendly technological innovations using Probio_FmUBB probiotics, provide access to small-scale artisanal fisheries, and open market access.
