Abstract

Abstract

Feed is the main thing needed in the cultivation of Asian seabass seeds. An appropriate composition of fish feed ingredients affect the growth, development, and survival rate of this Asian seabass seeds. This study aims to analyze the effect of the combination of maggot and artificial feed (pellets) on the growth, survival, feed conversion, and efficiency of feed utilization of Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer) seeds. The study was conducted for 30 days, using a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 3 replications, namely: treatment A (feeding pellets 100%), B (feeding pellets 75% and maggot 25%), C (feeding pellets 50% and maggot 50%), D (25% pellet feed and 75% maggot) with a feeding rate (FR) of 7% of fish body weight. The data that has been collected were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at a 95% confidence level with SPSS software. If the treatment had a significant effect, further tests would be carried out using the Tukey test. The results show that the combination of maggot and pellets affects the growth, survival, feed conversion, and efficiency of feed utilization of Asian seabass seeds. The best combination is 75% for maggots and 25% for pellets.

Abstract

Geological activity in the areas around the Sunda Strait has received attention through the tsunami that occurred at the end of 2018. Other activity was also recorded through a tectonic earthquake in the Sunda Strait subduction zone with Magnitude 6.9 on 2 August 2019. This condition raises concerns about the threat of an earthquake and tsunami disaster in surrounding area. Tanggamus Regency, which is located around the Sunda Strait, has a very wide tsunami-prone lowland, especially in the area at the tip of Semangka Bay. Based on these conditions, this study generally aims to map tsunami-prone areas, evacuation service areas for each Temporary Evacuation Place (TES), and analyze evacuation accessibility models. To answer these challenges, this research was conducted using Geographic Information systems (GIS) by following several methodological steps. Starting from determining the study area using spatial analysis, determining TES points, digitizing the road network and integrating it with Network Analysis tools on the ArcGIS platform, determining evacuation service areas, and modeling the travel time from each population residents to the nearest TES. Based on the results, it was found that some of the farthest areas were Semaka District, Wonosobo District and Kota Agung Barat District. The sub-district has a higher travel time to reach TES than the estimated arrival time of the tsunami.

Abstract

Alginate, polysaccharide from marine brown algae, is widely used for antitumor, anti-inflammatory, and also antiviral. However, alginate has large molecular weight that difficult to digest in some organsims. Therefore, it is important to look for the alginate lyase enzyme to break down the alginate. The purpose of this study was to obtain bacterial isolates that produce alginate lyase enzymes from Sargassum polycystum. Isolation of alginate lyase-producing bacteria was carried out by collecting Sargassum polycystum. from Sebalang Beach, Tarahan, South Lampung then the bacteria were isolated by the dilution method. The colonies obtained were purified and selected using qualitative (clear zone) and semi-quantitative activity tests, and identified morphologically, biochemically and molecularly using the 16S-rDNA gene. In this study, 20 pure bacterial isolates were obtained with one isolate having alginate lyase activity, namely PTF and PTH. The results of biochemical tests and molecular characterization showed that the isolate was Bacillus cereus.

Abstract

White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) is a viral infectious disease that can cause high mortality in Pacific white shrimp culture. The shrimp (±19 g) were reared in 9 containers with a density each of 10 shrimp/container and fed with shrimp feed at 3% of biomass daily. Shrimp were grouped into three treatments each with triplicate, namely feeding without alginate supplementation as a control, supplementation with sodium alginate supplementation of Sargassum sp. with a dose of 1 g/kg of feed + 0.2 g/kg feed of vitamin C, and supplementation of sodium alginate Sargassum sp. at a dose of 2 g/kg of feed. After 14 days of treatment, shrimp were injected with white spot syndrome virus filtrat in phosphate buffer saline (PBS) (1:1 v/v) for challenge assay. Several parameters were observed included survival rate (SR), relative percent survival (RPS), mean time to death (MTD), shrimp behaviour and clinical symptoms, hepatopancreatic histology, confirmation of white spot syndrome virus infection by PCR, and water quality. The results showed that supplementation of sodium alginate Sargassum sp. protected shrimp against white spot syndrome virus 14.80 hours longer in survival compared to the control group. However the supplementation of sodium alginate Sargassum sp. from Lampung waters not yet to protect shrimp against white spot syndrome virus after 72 hours infection.

Abstract

The capture fisheries sector has an important role for the economy in coastal areas. Appropriate policy programs are needed to support a sustainable capture fisheries sector. The purpose of this study is to analyze public and government perceptions of the existence of policy programs related to capture fisheries in Muara Gading Mas Village, Labuhan Maringgai District, East Lampung Regency. Data collection was carried out by observation and interviews using a questionnaire. The data was analyzed by the perception of the relationship with the Likert scale on policy objectives, policy success, policy implementers, policy supervisors and infrastructure and the environment. The results shows that there is a discrepancy between fishermen's perceptions and technical implementers due to the distrust of the two implementers towards the management of capture fisheries policies in order to develop Muara Gading Mas Village. To overcome this perception gap, behavioral engineering (social engineer) is needed for fishermen through the establishment of cooperatives/business entities that are licensed and supported by the government as subjects and vessels for fishermen to borrow capital to break the chain of the patron client system in Muara Gading Mas Village.
