Abstract

Early childhood education is the most valuable time to shape personality. Picture storybooks are an effective visual medium and play an important role in stimulating children's interest in reading and understanding because of their attractive visualization. Children absorb information more easily through images than text. However, in the digital era of Society 5.0, Indonesia still faces the challenge of low interest in reading and the lack of instilling character values from an early age. This condition demands the presence of innovative and relevant educational media to form a capable and characterful future generation. As a solution, an illustrated children's storybook “The Amazing Bitter Melon” with the theme of diversity and mutual respect was designed. This research uses qualitative methods through in-depth research, visual exploration and direct validation from children. The result of this design is a 24-page illustration of a children's storybook entitled “The Amazing Bitter Melon”, designed using a combination of manual and digitalization techniques. The goal is to convey a moral message about the importance of appreciating differences from an early age. This illustration design is not just an artistic process, but a visual strategy to form empathetic and tolerant children's characters.

Abstract

With the rise of digital technology, social media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube have become essential tools for disseminating educational materials, reaching a broader and younger audience. This project focuses on the design of virtual characters as a supportive tool for educational content production by the Anantaka Foundation, a non-governmental organization dedicated to social education in Semarang. Virtual YouTubers (VTubers), animated characters who interact with audiences via video platforms, represent a growing phenomenon in digital content creation. This project proposes creating a VTuber model that aligns with Anantaka's signature brand identity, aiming to enhance the foundation's outreach, especially among teenagers, by integrating anime art styles. The design process involved several stages, including brainstorming, sketching, outlining, coloring, and rendering, using digital tools such as Clip Studio Paint. The final product will serve not only as a visual mascot but also as an engaging element in Anantaka's educational content across social media platforms. By creating a virtual character, this project seeks to attract new audiences, maintain brand identity, and offer a fresh, interactive way to disseminate educational information. This innovative approach demonstrates the potential of VTubers beyond entertainment, proving their effectiveness in the fields of education and social outreach.

Abstract

The creation of this short video, titled “Siapa Sangka?”, effectively conveys the irony of the lives of students who face challenges in time management. This video tells the story of students who are exhausted due to the pressure of assignments and often find that expectations do not match reality. This work aims to educate students on the importance of time and emotion management in academic life. Using elements of humor and suspense as a bridge, this short video serves not only as entertainment but also as an effective educational tool. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the production of this short video involves observation and interviews with students, following the stages in film production, which include pre-production, production, and post-production. The results of this production demonstrate that the short video “Siapa Sangka?” effectively conveys relevant social messages about student life, particularly in terms of navigating a time filled with uncertainty.

Abstract

The high dynamics of the Indonesian property market are influenced by a shift in consumer behavior towards digital media. In this context, Adivasa housing in Semarang presents a strong "Tropical Modern" concept. However, there is a gap between its product excellence and its marketing communication strategy, namely the absence of effective audio-visual media to touch the emotional needs of its target audience. As a solution, this research designs a strategic promotional video titled "The Meaning of a Home" using the audience-centered Design Thinking method. This process shifts the approach from a direct sale (hard-sell) to a subtle narrative (soft-sell) that focuses on warmth, comfort, and tranquility. The results of this research show that the Design Thinking method proved to be highly effective in creating a promotional medium that is not only visually appealing but also capable of building a strong emotional connection, and successfully aligning the marketing message with the core values offered by Adivasa Housing.

Abstract

Bunnysunny.co is a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) specializing in handmade knitted crafts with a feminine, cheerful, loving, and warm aesthetic. However, its previous visual identity was found to be inconsistent in conveying these brand values, leading to the need for a logo redesign to enhance its brand image. This study aimed to redesign the visual identity of Bunnysunny.co to make it more relevant, communicative, and visually aligned with the brand's character. The methods used included a SWOT analysis of the existing logo and the distribution of a questionnaire to 33 respondents to compare perceptions of the old and new logos. The analysis identified areas for improvement, while the questionnaire results showed that the majority of respondents viewed the new logo as more attractive, professional, and better representative of the product's character. Despite a few minor suggestions for refinement, the redesigned logo was generally well-received and considered successful in strengthening the product image. The design process explored the use of a rabbit symbol to reflect the brand’s smart, responsive, and adaptable identity, combined with a color palette of pink, yellow, and white to evoke a cheerful, warm, and handmade feel. The final result was a comprehensive and practical visual identity system intended to increase the brand’s competitiveness and foster a more positive consumer perception.

Abstract

Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world and is often referred to as a maritime nation. However, public awareness of maritime culture remains low, particularly among children and teenagers. This design project aimed to create a character design that represents Indonesian maritime culture. The writer employed a qualitative method combined with an iconographic approach, utilizing symbolic elements derived from books and articles that discuss maritime cultural elements, history, and iconography in Indonesia. This approach was chosen to simplify the design process, especially when direct observation was not possible due to limited access to sources. The findings from the literature served as the foundation for the character development. The resulting character represents Indonesian maritime culture, inspired by the Malay ethnic group from the Riau Islands. It is expected that this character design can raise public awareness—particularly among the younger generation—of the nation's rich maritime heritage as a form of respect, preservation, and wise utilization of the sea, while also strengthening the focus on maritime culture as part of national identity.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with high ecotourism potential, supported by its natural wealth and cultural diversity. However, its geographical location in the Pacific Ring of Fire makes it highly vulnerable to geological disasters, particularly volcanic activity. This phenomenon demands the integration of tourism development with adaptive and sustainable disaster mitigation efforts. One area that represents a model of mitigation-based ecotourism is Kali Talang, located on the slopes of Mount Merapi, Klaten Regency. Despite being in a disaster-prone zone, this area continues to function as a tourist destination as well as an educational space that provides understanding of volcanic hazards and risk reduction efforts. This work aims to convey information about volcanic disaster mitigation through a visual approach based on infographics, as an effective medium of public communication. By raising issues of risk and preparedness within the context of managing natural tourism areas, this work is expected to strengthen collective awareness and encourage the development of more resilient and sustainability-oriented tourism practices.

Abstract

Students living in shared accommodation often face difficulties in maintaining the cleanliness of their living spaces due to busy academic schedules, limited time, and ineffective coordination. This situation often leads to shared cleaning schedules being neglected, which in turn affects comfort, health, and productivity. This study aims to design the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) of a mobile cleaning service application on campus using the Design Thinking approach, which consists of the stages of Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Testing. The design process resulted in an interactive prototype with five main features, including group service booking and real-time progress monitoring. Usability testing results showed a high task success rate (average >90%), validating the core functionality. However, challenges in navigation efficiency were identified, as indicated by a misclick rate of 47.6%. Despite this, users' overall perception of the user experience remained highly positive (average score >4.5 out of 5). These findings underscore the importance of applying UI/UX principles in designing responsive digital service platforms tailored to user needs.
