Abstract

Food consumption is one of the direct causes of nutritional status. The Ministry of National Development Planning in 2019 reported that almost half of the population or 45.7 percent of the population is very poor in energy allowances and 36.1 percent of the population is low in protein allowances. Meanwhile, the North Sumatra Provincial Health Office in 2019 presented the results of monitoring nutritional status which showed the three districts with the highest stunted of children under five, namely Gunung Sitoli, West Nias, and Samosir. The districts with the most underweight of children under five are West Nias, Central Tapanuli, and North Nias. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between food consumption and the nutritional status of children under five at Pasar Lahewa Village, Lahewa Sub-District, in North Nias District, which was selected purposively. This type of research is descriptive analytic, cross sectional design. The food consumption data of sixty children under five were collected using the 24-Hour Food Recall Method for three non-consecutive days, anthropometric nutritional status with Body Weight Index according to Height or Body Length. The results showed that the largest contribution of energy and protein samples came from rice, powdered milk, chicken, fish, eggs, tofu, tempeh, potatoes, noodles, and biscuits. Most of the samples were categorized as well consumption and normal nutritional status. The Chi-Square test produces a p-value of 0.003 (p<α (0.05) which means Ho is rejected so that it can be stated that there is a relationship between food consumption and the nutritional status of children under five at Pasar Lahewa Village, Lahewa District in North Nias District. The results are expected can be used by the leadership and staff of the Lahewa District Health Center to plan nutrition improvement programs. Similar research needs to be carried out in other villages within the working area of the Lahewa District Health Center, to obtain and enrich data in planning program to improve food consumption and nutritional status of children under five.

Abstract

This research investigates the effectiveness of counseling methods, incorporating seminar models and PowerPoint presentations, in enhancing students’ knowledge and preparedness for fire emergency response at Universitas Prima Indonesia. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, involving 78 students from the Public Health Bachelor Program. The intervention comprised four counseling sessions covering basic fire knowledge, preparedness steps, emergency actions, and the use of firefighting equipment. Data was collected through questionnaires administered before and after the intervention, assessing students' knowledge of fire extinguishers, hydrants, fire alarms, assembly points, emergency exits, and emergency stairs. The results indicated a significant positive impact, with post-test scores for both knowledge and preparedness substantially higher than pre-test scores (p < 0.001). Before the intervention, only 25.6% of participants demonstrated good knowledge, while after the intervention, 97.4% achieved this level. Similarly, preparedness levels significantly increased, with 97.4% of participants feeling ready after the intervention compared to only 19.2% before. The study underscores the effectiveness of the implemented counseling methods and supports the recommendation for continuous fire safety education to ensure sustained preparedness.

Abstract

Diarrheal disease remains a critical public health concern, especially in developing countries like Indonesia, where it significantly contributes to morbidity and mortality among young children. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (CHLB) and the incidence of diarrhea among children aged 7-10 years in Duria Village, West Nias. A cross-sectional study was conducted from January to February 2024, involving 35 mothers of children aged 7–10 years with diarrhea, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires to assess handwashing behavior, access to clean water, latrine conditions, and garbage disposal practices. The results indicated that while handwashing habits, latrine conditions, and garbage disposal practices did not show statistically significant associations with diarrhea prevalence, access to clean water had a highly significant association (p < 0.001), albeit counterintuitively suggesting that access to clean water is associated with increased diarrhea. These unexpected findings warrant further investigation to understand potential confounding factors. The study underscores the complex interplay between CHLB and diarrheal disease, highlighting the need for targeted interventions to improve sanitation and hygiene practices in Duria Village.

Abstract

Nutritional problems affecting adolescent girls include short stature (stunting), anemia, Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED), obesity, and fetal growth restriction during adolescent pregnancies. These nutritional issues arise from improper dietary behaviors. Adolescent girls generally exhibit unhealthy eating habits, which, if continued, can negatively impact their reproductive health and nutritional status. This study employs a quantitative research approach with a quasi-experimental design and utilizes t-tests. The population and sample for this study consisted of 30 adolescent girls from class XI at the Medan 4 State Preparatory Madrasah Aliyah School. The results indicated significant differences in the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of the adolescent girls between the pre-test and post-test conducted by health workers.

Abstract

High-quality pharmacy services are a crucial component in supporting patient satisfaction, particularly for kidney patients who require continuous medication monitoring and management. This study aims to analyze the relationship between pharmacy service quality including physical facilities, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy and the satisfaction level of kidney patients at Royal Prima Hospital in Medan City. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, using a structured questionnaire administered to 100 respondents. The results indicate that all dimensions of pharmacy service quality are significantly associated with patient satisfaction (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that comprehensive improvements in pharmacy services contribute to enhanced satisfaction among kidney patients. Therefore, hospitals are encouraged to prioritize and optimize pharmaceutical care as an integral part of quality healthcare delivery.

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DMT2) is one of the non-communicable diseases with high prevalence in Indonesia and requires long-term treatment management. Pharmaceutical services have an important role in supporting DMT2 treatment, but the results of the initial survey show that some outpatients at Royal Prima Hospital Medan are not satisfied with the services provided. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the quality of pharmaceutical services and the level of satisfaction of DMT2 patients. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 100 DMT2 outpatient respondents. Data was collected using questionnaires that have been tested for validity and reliability. The results of the univariate analysis showed that most respondents rated the aspects of physical facilities (83%), reliability (82%), assurance (85%), and empathy (85%), but responsiveness was rated as poor (53%). As many as 90% of respondents were satisfied with the service as a whole. The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between all dimensions of pharmaceutical service quality and patient satisfaction (p<0.05). Multivariate analysis identified that physical means (OR=2.240; p=0.027) and assurance (OR=2.767; p=0.007) were the most influential factors on patient satisfaction. This study concludes that the quality of pharmaceutical services has a significant effect on DMT2 patient satisfaction, with recommendations for increasing responsiveness as a top priority.
