Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease with a high incidence and is often called a silent killer. Hypertension management can be done pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically, one of which is through the consumption of celery juice and spinach juice which contain active substances that can lower blood pressure. Purpose: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of celery juice and spinach juice on lowering blood pressure in hypertension patients. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study sample consisted of 27 respondents with a total sampling technique. The intervention was carried out by administering celery juice and spinach juice for 3 days each, with a 3-day break in between. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure after the intervention in both groups with a p value = 0.000 (<0.05). It can be concluded that celery juice and spinach juice are effective in lowering blood pressure, with the effectiveness of celery juice being higher than spinach juice.

Abstract

Sedentary behavior, high sodium intake, and poor sleep hygiene trigger early hypertension risks among urban adolescents, creating a distinct knowledge-practice gap (KAP gap). This study aimed to develop, validate, and evaluate the effectiveness of the Healthy School Intervention Module for the early prevention of hypertension among urban adolescents. This Research and Development (R&D) study conducted a limited field trial involving 15 students at SMAN 8 Tasikmalaya selected via criterion sampling. Data were collected using expert validation sheets, KAP questionnaires (pre-post test), and clinical blood pressure screenings. Two experts validated the module as highly feasible (90%). Post-intervention, significant improvements were observed in knowledge (+10.37%; 4.53 ± 0.52 to 5.00 ± 0.00), attitude (+11.11%; 14.40 ± 1.55$ to 16.00 ± 0.00), and practice (+35.50%; 6.00 ± 1.13$ to 8.13 ± 0.64), successfully exceeding the >20% success indicator. Bivariate analysis demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure among overweight/obese students (P < 0.05). The Healthy School Intervention Module is highly feasible and effective in enhancing KAP performance and optimizing clinical blood pressure profiles toward a healthier lifestyle.

Abstract

Wound care faces increasing challenges due to the growing prevalence of chronic wounds, limited access to wound care specialists, and the need for continuous healthcare services. Smartphone technology provides opportunities to improve access to integrated wound consultation. This study aimed to develop a user-centered smartphone-based Smart Wound Consultation model, identify its essential features, and establish a workflow for wound consultation and digital documentation. A Design Science Research approach with user-centered design principles was employed. The study was conducted in Tasikmalaya, Indonesia, involving four purposively selected experts in information technology, medical-surgical nursing, and wound care. Data were collected through expert discussions and design validation forms and analyzed using thematic analysis. The proposed model integrates six core features: wound screening, medication services, self-care support, homecare services, health education, and educational videos within a single smartphone platform. The workflow includes initial wound assessment, telenursing consultation, treatment recommendations, digital documentation, and referral pathways. Expert validation confirmed the feasibility of the model following minor revisions to medical terminology, screening content, educational materials, and referral mechanisms. The proposed model provides a comprehensive user-centered framework for digital wound consultation and offers a foundation for developing smartphone-based applications to improve access, continuity, and quality of Medical-Surgical Nursing services.

Abstract

Philippine emergency care settings are characterized by systemic scarcity, limited resources, and inadequate institutional support. This study explored how Generation Z emergency room nurses experienced and responded to workplace adversity in resource-constrained settings. A qualitative descriptive phenomenological design was used. Purposive sampling recruited 12 Generation Z emergency nurses from resource-limited hospitals. Data saturation was reached by the tenth informant and confirmed through two interviews. Audio-recorded interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. Trustworthiness was supported through member checking conducted by all researchers after preliminary analysis; informant feedback did not result in changes to the themes. Bracketing was maintained throughout the research process, and an audit trail documented transcript, coding records, reflexive notes, and analytic decisions. Findings revealed four themes: Challenges in Limited Resource Hospital Settings; Optimizing Functioning through Self-Regulation; Personal Qualities and Strategies for Effective Adaptation; and Engagement in Addressing Health Problems Amid Adversity. Based on these findings, the authors propose COPE as a descriptive model: C represents Challenges, O Optimizing Functioning, P Personal Qualities and Strategies, and E Engagement. Exploring Generation Z nurses' Adversity Quotient through their lived experiences revealed that despite adversities posed by limited-resourced emergency room settings, Generation Z nurses demonstrated resilience by employing strategies to effectively adapt, perform, and manage their professional role as a healthcare provider.
