Abstract

Ethyl p-methoxycinnamate (EPMC) is the main compound from the rhizome of kencur (Kaempferia galanga Linn) isolated with a non-polar solvent, n-hexane. Several studies have proven that EPMC has a pharmacological effect as an anti-inflammatory. The purpose of this study was to make a topical formulation of EPMC using microemulgel preparations. The method used in the manufacture of microemulsions is to make a spontaneous microemulsion system and load it into a gel base. The oil phase used is isopropyl myristate, the surfactant used is tween 80, cosurfactant ethanol 96%, gelling agent is carpopol 340, triethanolamine (TEA) as a base and propylene glycol as a humectant. The dose of EPMC used was 200 g/mL. Four microemulgel formulations have been made, namely B1, B2, B3 and B4 with various concentrations of surfactant and cosurfactant. The results showed that the best formula was B3 formula with 5% isopropyl myristate, 40% Tween 80, 10% ethanol 96%, 10% propylene glycol, 1% carbopol, TEA and aquades. The conclusion of this formula is that the use of surfactants and cosurfactants in large quantities makes a transparent appearance and better stability than other formulations.

Abstract

Pharmaceutical supplies are the main commodity in the pharmaceutical sector in service facilities, one of which is a pharmacy. Controlling pharmaceutical supplies in pharmacies is one of the duties and responsibilities of a pharmacist managing a pharmacy (APA). The task can run well if the pharmacist has high motivation and a good attitude in controlling pharmaceutical inventory. This study aimed to measure the attitude and motivation of pharmacists in inventory control and how the influence of motivation on attitudes in managing pharmaceutical inventory in pharmacies. This type of research is a descriptive observational study with cross-sectional data collection. The sample used is pharmacist managing pharmacies (APA) in pharmacies in Palu City as many as 73 respondents. The attitude and motivation of pharmacists were measured using a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results of the respondent's data were analyzed descriptively and a simple linear regression test. The outcome on the measurement of pharmacist motivation was dominated by the moderate category, with as many as 51 respondents (69.86%). The results of measuring the attitude of pharmacists in controlling pharmaceutical inventory in pharmacies are dominated in the good category as many as 36 respondents (49.32%). With a simple regression test, the tcount value is 0.783 (< ttable = 1.66), which means that there is no significant effect between motivation on the attitude of the pharmacist. The linear regression equation is Y=39,527+0,151X, meaning that if the motivation value increases by 1, the attitude will increase by 0.151. It can be concluded that the attitude in controlling pharmaceutical inventory by pharmacists in pharmacies is not influenced by motivation.

Abstract

Background: The development of chalcone-based antibiotics has been widely carried out today, variations in the location and type of functional groups were carried out to find chalcone with the best bacterial inhibitory activity. However, the obstacle faced was that not all variations of chalcone showed good bacterial inhibitory activity. The trend of increasing or decreasing antibacterial activity due to variations in the location and type of substituent in chalcone is difficult to detect, because comparative data on the inhibitory activity of chalcone are not current or are no longer relevant to current conditions where the test bacteria have mutation as a form of adaptation or resistance to antibiotics. Objective: This research was conducted to provide current data on the antibacterial activity of chalcone against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Methods: Chalcone was synthesized by Claisen-Schmidt condensation and activity test by diffusion method. Results: The yield of chalcone obtained in this study was 96.15%, with the percent purity based on the results of GC-MS was 100%. Inhibitory activity of chalcone on gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli is in the strong category with an inhibitory value of 81.30% while Acinetobacter is weak with a percentage of 43.0%. In gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus the inhibitory ability is moderate with a percentage of 64.0%, while in Staphylococcus epidermidis and Bacillus sp the inhibitory activity is weak with a percentage of 35.5% and 43.0%, respectively. Conclusion: Chalcone have strong activity on Gram-negative bacteria and tend to be moderate on Gram-positive bacteria.

Abstract

Background: In the last few decades there has been an increase in cases of chronic diseases and premature aging which are some of the key factors in influencing public health. This condition is caused by various causes, but the main factor is the number of free radicals that exceed the body's capacity to neutralize them. Antioxidants have an important role as health protective factors because they can neutralize and protect cells from the presence of free radicals. Red castor leaves have been reported to have good activity as an antioxidant. The chemical content of this plant is anthraquinone, flavonoid, saponin, tannin and terpenoid. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant activity of red jatropha leaf extract using the DPPH method. Methods Samples were extracted using 70% ethanol by maceration method. The antioxidant activity test was carried out using the DPPH method (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) using a comparison of Vitamin C. Each test used a variation of the concentration of the solution. For red jatropha leaf extract using concentration variations of 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 g/ml, while for vitamin C using concentration variations of 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 g/ml. The absorbance of each test solution was measured using a spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 515 nm. The results are reported as IC50 values. Results: The results showed that the IC50 values of red jatropha leaf extract and vitamin C were 47.81 and 14.99 g/ml, respectively. This value indicates that the Chinese jatropha leaf extract has a very strong antioxidant activity (IC50 <50 g/ml). Conclusion: Red jatropha leaf extract showed very strong antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 47.81 g/ml so it has great potential as an antioxidant that can be used for the development of traditional medicinal raw materials.
