Abstract

Dementia is a health problem that often occurs in the elderly and has an impact on decreased cognitive function, independence, and quality of life. Non-pharmacological efforts such as cognitive stimulation are believed to help slow the progression of dementia. Therefore, it is important to examine the effect of cognitive stimulation on the level of dementia in the elderly in the community. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of cognitive stimulation on the level of dementia in the elderly in the X Village area of Jakarta. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach without a control group. The study sample consisted of 50 elderly people selected using a purposive sampling technique according to the inclusion criteria. The intervention in the form of cognitive stimulation was carried out for 4 weeks with a frequency of 3 times per week. The instrument used was the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using a paired t-test statistical test. Results: The analysis results showed an increase in MMSE scores after the Cognitive Stimulation intervention. The average score increased from 18.2 (SD 3.1) to 22.5 (SD 2.8), with a difference of 4.3 points, which is considered clinically significant. Statistical tests showed a p value of 0.000 (<0.05), which means there was a significant difference between before and after the intervention. In addition, the decrease in the standard deviation value indicates that the results after the intervention are more homogeneous. Thus, Cognitive Stimulation has been proven effective in improving cognitive function in the elderly.y. Conclusion: Cognitive stimulation significantly improves cognitive function and reduces dementia rates in the elderly. This intervention can be recommended as a promotive and preventive measure in geriatric nursing services in the community.

Abstract

Breast cancer represents a prevalent malignancy characterized by the growth of cancerous tumors within the mammary tissue. Annually, new diagnoses exceed 185,000 cases among women, with a rising incidence trend observed in developed nations. Accounting for approximately 43,500 annual fatalities, it ranks as the second most frequent cause of cancer-related mortality in women, following lung cancer. Consequently, the role of Breast Self-Examination (BSE) is acknowledged as a vital factor in enhancing students' knowledge for the early detection of the disease. This study employed a quantitative approach utilizing a pre-experimental research design. Data collection was facilitated through a questionnaire to evaluate knowledge levels and an observation checklist to assess practical skills. Using a simple random sampling technique, a total of 68 participants were recruited. Following data processing via the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, the findings demonstrated that a vast majority of respondents specifically 62 individuals (91.2%), attained a high level of knowledge regarding SADARI after the intervention. Meanwhile, 6 individuals (8.8%) had an adequate level of knowledge about SADARI. From the statistical test of knowledge and ability before and after health education, a p-value of 0.000 (p <0.05) was obtained. This confirms that health education significantly influences the knowledge of students at SMAN 1 Giri Taruna Bangsa regarding SADARI. Such findings highlight the efficacy of school-based education in promoting early breast cancer screening. It is expected that the school will always conduct health awareness programs for women and collaborate with health workers, especially regarding SADARI examinations.

Abstract

A flood is one of the most frequent natural disasters in Indonesia and often causes significant social, environmental, and economic impacts. Adolescents are considered a vulnerable group during disasters; therefore, adequate knowledge is essential to improve their preparedness and response capacity. This study aimed to examine the relationship between knowledge of flood disasters and disaster preparedness among students at MTs At-Taqwa 11 Bekasi, Indonesia. A quantitative analytical study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted involving 55 students from grades VII–IX. Data were collected using validated questionnaires that measured respondents’ level of knowledge regarding flood disasters and their preparedness in facing flood events. Descriptive statistics were used to describe respondent characteristics, while the Chi-square test was applied to determine the association between knowledge and preparedness levels with a significance level of 0.05. The findings revealed that most respondents had a good level of knowledge (50.9%), and nearly half demonstrated a high level of preparedness (47.3%). Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between knowledge and flood disaster preparedness (p = 0.003). Students with better knowledge tended to exhibit higher preparedness levels. These results indicate that disaster-related knowledge plays an important role in strengthening preparedness among adolescents. Enhancing disaster education programs in schools may contribute to improving students’ readiness and resilience in responding to flood disasters.

Abstract

The Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for Reproductive Health is a critical disaster intervention requiring robust cognitive and psychomotor readiness from midwifery students. However, traditional education often fails to replicate chaotic, real-world disaster dynamics. To bridge this gap, this study developed and evaluated a field simulation-based MISP Reproductive Health module designed to enhance undergraduate midwifery students' knowledge and skills. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach guided by the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) framework, the implementation phase utilized a quasi-experimental pre-post test control group design. Sixty final-year midwifery students were divided equally into an intervention group (new module with field simulations) and a control group (conventional module with traditional lectures). Data were gathered via knowledge questionnaires and simulation-based OSCE checklists, then analyzed using Paired and Independent T-Tests. The development phase demonstrated high feasibility, with material and media experts validating the module at 92% and 88%, respectively. Post-implementation, the intervention group showed significant increases in mean scores for both knowledge (p < 0.001) and skills (p < 0.001). Furthermore, comparative analysis revealed that the intervention group achieved substantially higher scores in team coordination and tactical field execution than the control group. In conclusion, this field simulation-based MISP Reproductive Health module is valid, effective, and highly feasible for improving essential disaster preparedness competencies in future midwifery professionals.
