Abstract

AbstractEvaluating safety in higher vocational education demands context-specific tools, rather than standard industrial checklists. Academic welding workshops pose significant occupational risks. Students are exposed to hazards such as heavy metal fumes, extreme temperatures, and radiation. Often, institutions rely on corporate audit templates, which may not align with the high-turnover, low-experience environment of a polytechnic laboratory. To address this, this study constructed an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) index specifically for vocational higher education. Integrating a two-stage Delphi panel with the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), academics and safety auditors distilled broad regulations into five core pillars. AHP calculations identified Local Exhaust Ventilation (C1) as the highest priority, with a weight of 0.416. The expert judgments were highly consistent (CR = 0.024). Applying this index in a field audit at a Jakarta polytechnic, the facility earned an overall compliance score of 61.03 out of 100. While the workshop scored 85 for enforcing personal protective equipment (PPE), it scored 50 for source ventilation. These results highlight the limitations of partial compliance. Relying on PPE while lacking adequate fume extraction may provide insufficient protection. This framework offers a data-backed guide for institutions to prioritize localized exhaust networks to better protect students' respiratory health. Keywords:Welding safety; Vocational education; Delphi method; Analytical Hierarchy Process; Risk assessment..

Abstract

AbstractThe increasingly intense industrial competition requires companies to maintain the reliability and efficiency of production machinery to ensure that product quality and quantity remain optimal. One of the most important pieces of equipment in the mining production process is the belt conveyor, which functions to continuously transport materials. Failures in bearing components can lead to downtime, reduced productivity, and increased maintenance costs. This study was conducted at PT. Mifa Bersaudara with the objective of analyzing the causes of bearing failures in belt conveyors using the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) method. Research data were collected through field observations, interviews with the maintenance division, and records of equipment failures during the period of June–July 2023. The analysis was carried out by evaluating three key FMEA parameters: Severity (S), Occurrence (O), and Detection (D), to determine the Risk Priority Number (RPN) for identifying potential failures in a system, component, or process, as well as their causes and impacts. The results of the analysis indicate that the Inner Ring component has the highest RPN value of 175, followed by the Outer Ring (144) and the Cage (120), indicating that these components have the highest risk of failure and therefore require priority attention in maintenance and preventive actions.  Keywords:Belt Conveyor, Bearing, FMEA, RPN, Fishbone     AbstrakPersaingan industri yang semakin ketat menuntut perusahaan untuk menjaga keandalan dan efisiensi mesin produksi agar kualitas serta kuantitas produk tetap optimal.

Abstract

AbstractHospitals are critical facilities required to remain structurally safe and fully operational following an earthquake. This study aims to evaluate the seismic performance and structural compliance of the Fandika Takengon General Hospital Building following a configuration change from the initial plan of six stories to four stories. The evaluation was conducted through three-dimensional modeling using CSI ETABS software based on SNI 1726:2019 on a dual system consisting of a Special Moment Resisting Frame System (SMRFS) and shear walls. The evaluated parameters include base shear force, modal mass participation, inter-story drift, dual system contributions, and structural irregularities. The analysis results indicate that the structure complies with the global seismic response requirements based on SNI 1726:2019, with a base shear force of 13,522.52 kN in the X-direction and 13,568.53 kN in the Y-direction, and all inter-story drift values fall below the allowable limits. The moment-resisting frame is capable of resisting more than 25% of the seismic force, thereby satisfying the dual system requirements. Nonetheless, torsional irregularities were still identified on several floors, along with a mass irregularity on the second floor, and a re-entrant corner irregularity in the Y-direction, which potentially affect the local structural response during a strong earthquake. This study demonstrates that a comprehensive seismic performance evaluation is critical for existing buildings undergoing configuration changes, as compliance with global response requirements does not fully guarantee the absence of potential local vulnerabilities. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a reference for the evaluation and verification of structural safety in hospital buildings and other essential structures prior to operation.
