Abstract

Public services are one of the primary functions of government institutions in meeting community needs. The quality of public services reflects the performance of government organizations and influences public trust and satisfaction. This study aimed to analyze the quality of public services at the Malawili Urban Village Office, Sorong Regency. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed to obtain an in-depth understanding of public service delivery. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the village head, service officers, and community members as informants. Data were analyzed using the interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The study assessed service quality based on five dimensions: tangible, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. The findings indicate that the quality of public services at the Malawili Urban Village Office is generally categorized as good. Service officers demonstrated neat appearances, responsiveness to community needs, and friendly attitudes in delivering services. Clear service procedures and disciplined work practices also contributed to positive service experiences. However, several challenges remain, including limited service facilities, inadequate room comfort, and uneven technological competencies among employees. These constraints occasionally affect the efficiency of service delivery. Therefore, improvements in infrastructure, service facilities, and employee capacity building are necessary to enhance the quality of public services and increase community satisfaction.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has encouraged online transportation companies to utilize YouTube as a promotional platform to build brand image through various visual, verbal, and symbolic signs. This study aims to describe the denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings embedded in the YouTube advertisements of Gojek, Grab, and Maxim by employing Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. This research adopted a descriptive qualitative method. The research data consisted of visual, verbal, and audio elements contained in the advertisement videos of Gojek, Grab, and Maxim uploaded to YouTube. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and the identification of sign elements within the advertisements. Subsequently, the data were analyzed through the stages of sign identification, interpretation of denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that, at the denotative level, the advertisements depict the use of online transportation services, including the booking process, passenger pick-up, and parcel delivery. At the connotative level, each advertisement constructs a distinct brand image: Maxim is portrayed as a practical and easily accessible service; Grab emphasizes safety, affordability, and support for business activities; while Gojek is presented as a mobility solution that offers comfort, hope, and emotional closeness to the community. At the mythological level, all three advertisements construct the perception that online transportation symbolizes a modern lifestyle characterized by convenience, efficiency, and the integration of digital technology into everyday life. The findings further demonstrate that online transportation advertisements function not only as promotional media but also as instruments for constructing social and cultural meanings as well as brand identity through the strategic use of signs conveyed to the public

Abstract

The development of technology in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era requires vocational higher education institutions to produce graduates who possess technical competencies, technological adaptability, and work readiness that meet the needs of industry and business sectors. This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of Mechanical Engineering curricula in Indonesia as a basis for developing the Applied Bachelor's Degree Curriculum in Mechanical Engineering at Saint Paul Polytechnic Sorong. The research employed a descriptive-comparative approach using document analysis methods on five Mechanical Engineering study programs that have implemented Outcome-Based Education (OBE), consisting of three academic programs and two vocational programs. Data were collected through documentation studies of graduate profiles, learning outcomes, curriculum structures, and supporting curriculum documents. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis and comparative analysis to identify similarities, differences, and unique characteristics among the curricula. The results indicate that all study programs have implemented OBE principles aligned with the National Standards of Higher Education (SN-Dikti), the Indonesian National Qualification Framework (KKNI), and the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy. Academic programs tend to emphasize analytical and engineering development competencies, while vocational programs focus more on applied competencies and industrial needs. Common characteristics were found in the mastery of engineering sciences, design capabilities, engineering problem-solving skills, professional communication, and lifelong learning competencies. The findings of this study can serve as a reference for developing a curriculum that is relevant to industrial needs and the regional development characteristics of Papua.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the management of the peer mentoring programme in enhancing academic hardiness (academic resilience) at St. Monika Hostel in Jayapura. The study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and document studies. Data validation was carried out using source and technique triangulation. The data collected were analysed using the flow model of Miles and Huberman, i.e. reduction of data, display of data, and conclusion/verification.  The results of the study show that the planning of the peer mentoring programme based on the hostel begins with the process of analysing the needs of the students, which forms the basis for the programme's objectives. This needs analysis is used to determine and organise mentors and mentees. The programme is implemented through activities such as assisting with homework, preparing for midterms/finals and reinforcing learning strategies and methods. The manager ensures that the programme is implemented properly by carrying out regular supervision of the learning support process. It is hoped that this peer mentoring programme will have a positive impact on the academic hardiness of students.

Abstract

Honesty is a foundational character strength, yet dishonesty in young children cannot be interpreted only as moral failure because it develops together with language, theory of mind, and executive function. This study examines the developmental mechanisms of honesty, evaluates relevant educational strategies, and proposes an applicable model for Indonesian early childhood education. An integrative literature review was conducted by selecting 26 theoretical, review, and empirical sources published mainly between 2013 and 2026 through PubMed, Google Scholar, Garuda, and journal portals. The sources were analyzed thematically according to developmental mechanisms, pedagogical practices, and ecological contexts. The synthesis indicates that fear-based punishment is less effective than autonomy-supportive moral explanations, safe responses to children’s admissions, consistent adult modeling, habituation, positively framed stories, guided play, and reflective dialogue. Honesty education also requires alignment among family, school, and community because contradictory adult practices weaken value internalization. The article proposes a four-layer model consisting of individual moral understanding and self-regulation, relational modeling and dialogue, psychologically safe classroom practices, and ecological consistency through the Tri Pusat Pendidikan and Pancasila values. The model provides operational indicators for curriculum planning, classroom assessment, teacher development, and parent-school collaboration. Empirical testing across diverse Indonesian early childhood settings is recommended.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze various strategies for utilizing the Holy Scriptures to foster creativity among children in Catholic Children's Faith Formation (BIAK) and the Pontifical Society of Missionary Childhood (SEKAMI), focusing specifically on the process of preparing catechetical materials by facilitators. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, structured according to PRISMA guidelines, was employed. A comprehensive literature search was conducted by screening scholarly articles from reputable national and international databases—including Google Scholar, Garuda (Garba Rujukan Digital), SINTA, and Scopus—covering the period from 2016 to 2026. The review results indicate that creativity among Catholic children can be effectively stimulated through three adaptive strategies for preparing Scripture-based teaching materials: (1) the use of three-dimensional and tactile-sensory media (such as pop-up books and Montessori-style props); (2) contextualized conventional narrative visualization; and (3) the digitalization and gamification of catechesis based on User-Centered Design (UCD) principles. The study offers a methodological roadmap for BIAK facilitators to prepare catechetical materials that strike a balance between doctrinal-theological content and a creative, engaging, and child-oriented psycho-pedagogical approach.

Abstract

This study aims to examine differences in self-esteem, academic self-efficacy, and learning motivation across semesters among students at St. John the Apostle School of Pastoral Catechetics in Jayapura. A quantitative approach with a comparative design was applied to 68 students from a population of 171. Data were collected cross-sectionally using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), a general academic self-efficacy scale, a learning motivation scale, and records of the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Data analysis included item validity testing, Cronbach’s alpha reliability, exploratory factor analysis to examine the structure of the RSES, one-way analysis of variance, the Kruskal-Wallis test, and Bayes factor analysis to evaluate the null hypothesis. The results showed that the RSES was divided into two uncorrelated dimensions (r = −0.007), namely Negative Self-Esteem and Positive Self-Esteem. Significant differences across semesters were found only in the Negative Self-Esteem dimension (p = 0.008), where senior students exhibited a lower tendency toward self-deprecation compared to students in their first semesters. Conversely, the Positive Self-Esteem dimension, total RSES scores, academic self-efficacy, and learning motivation showed no differences. Bayesian factor analysis provided very strong evidence (BF₀₁ > 100) supporting the absence of differences in self-efficacy and learning motivation, indicating that these null findings reflect the true state of affairs. Psychological interventions should focus on managing self-doubt, particularly among first-year students.
