Abstract

This study aims to interpret entrepreneurial characters in novels as cultural constructs embedded with values and ideology. Through a hermeneutical approach, literary works are understood as social discourses that reflect societal value systems, rather than merely aesthetic products. The study responds to the limitations of normative approaches in entrepreneurship education, which often emphasize practice and outcomes, by highlighting the importance of symbolic and narrative dimensions in literary texts. A qualitative method employing hermeneutic text analysis was applied to two novels by Asma Nadia: Bidadari untuk Dewa and Cinta Dua Kodi. Data were collected through close reading, literature review, interpretive validation, narrative excerpt classification, and categorization based on entrepreneurial character indicators. The findings reveal seven dominant entrepreneurial traits: responsibility, risk-taking, achievement motivation, self-confidence and optimism, collaboration, creativity and innovation, and leadership. Using the hermeneutic circle method, each trait was analyzed as a construction of meaning, emerging not only from narrative progression but also from the symbolic interaction between text and reader. These narratives show that entrepreneurial characters in the novels are shaped by the tension between personal idealism, religious values, and socio-economic dynamics. In-depth interpretation of dialogues, monologues, and dramatic situations enables a comprehensive reading of entrepreneurial actions as representations of cultural and spiritual identity. This research contributes to the interdisciplinary integration between literature and entrepreneurship studies by emphasizing the narrative dimension in shaping entrepreneurial character. The results demonstrate that literary texts can serve as reflective media in entrepreneurship education to foster ethical, resilient, and value-oriented entrepreneurial mindsets. The study recommends the strategic use of literature as a pedagogical tool to enrich value-based approaches in entrepreneurship development.

Abstract

This study examines the ecological wisdom in the North Sumatera folktale, Putri Lopian from an ecocritical perspective. Folktales, as part of oral literature, often contain social values and norms about human interaction with nature. This study aims to analyze the ecological wisdom contained in the Putri Lopian folktale through an ecocritical approach. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with an ecocritical analysis approach. Data were obtained from literature studies and the text of the folktale. The results show that the Putri Lopian folktale contains ecological wisdom values, which reflect an awareness of the importance of maintaining ecosystem balance and respecting nature. This story can be categorized as apocalyptic literature because it depicts natural phenomena such as earthquakes, low tides, and powerful waves. In addition, this story contains five of Greg Garrard's six ecocritical concepts, namely wilderness, apocalypse, dwelling, animals, and earth. This ecocritical study contributes to a deeper understanding of ecological wisdom in the context of local North Sumatera culture. This story serves as a basis for promoting environmental awareness through a literary approach.

Abstract

This study examines the novel Tanjung Kemarau by Royyan Julian through an ecosemiotic perspective to explore cultural resistance and environmental advocacy in Madura Island. The primary focus of this research is how cultural symbols and narratives in the novel reflect the close relationship between the local community and the environment, particularly the mangrove forests. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study analyzes the symbolism and meanings related to ecological and cultural issues in the novel. The findings show that mangrove forests are not only viewed as physical ecosystems but also as sacred spaces revered by the community. Mystical figures such as Nyai Rasera and the village cleansing rituals are depicted as part of the community's efforts to preserve the environment and resist commercial exploitation. The novel serves as a form of resistance against environmentally destructive modernization practices, while also acting as an advocacy tool emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural values in ecological conservation. This research enriches the discourse of ecosemiotics in Indonesian literary studies and highlights the potential of literature as a medium for culturally-based environmental advocacy.

Abstract

Speaking is a fundamental language skill that functions as a tool of communication. Therefore, in language learning, speaking skills require special attention to ensure that learning objectives can be effectively achieved. This study aims to examine the optimization of speaking skills through the hypnoteaching model as an innovative approach to 21st-century learning. The research employed a quantitative method with a Quasi-Experimental Design. The data consisted of students’ speaking skill scores before applying the hypnoteaching model, obtained through a pretest, and after applying the model, obtained through a posttest. The mean score of the pretest was 18.27, while the posttest mean score was 23.86. Based on the paired t-test estimation, the results indicated a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. This finding demonstrates that the hypnoteaching model can optimize speaking skills by 56%. Considering these results, it is recommended that the hypnoteaching model be implemented as one of the effective teaching models for developing speaking skills.

Abstract

Indonesian folktales, as part of the nation’s cultural heritage, contain local wisdom that reflects the worldview and collective values of Indonesian society. In the context of teaching Indonesian to speakers of other languages (BIPA), folktales serve not only as linguistic input but also as pedagogical tools for introducing cultural values and fostering character development among foreign learners. This study aims to examine the forms of self-transformation experienced by BIPA learners through the activity of rewriting Indonesian folktales. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, grounded in transformative learning theory and hermeneutic analysis. The participants consisted of five advanced-level BIPA learners from Malaysia, South Korea, and China enrolled in a language program at an Indonesian state university. Data were collected through rewritten narrative texts and in-depth interviews, then analyzed hermeneutically through stages of initial comprehension, theme identification, contextual interpretation, and reflection on transformation. The findings reveal that learners experienced personal growth by interpreting cultural values such as livelihood, cooperation, and deliberation, and internalizing character traits such as honesty, responsibility, and respect for others. The act of rewriting served as a reflective process that fostered cross-cultural understanding and cognitive-affective transformation, thereby enriching BIPA learning experiences. This study recommends the integration of folktales as value-based and culturally grounded learning materials in BIPA instruction.

Abstract

Tegalwaru community in Karawang Regency, West Java, is closely tied to agrarian traditions and ecological values that are expressed through local myths. Among these, the Kampung Hilang (Vanished Village) legend is particularly significant, recounting the collapse of a once harmonious life in Bakan Jati Village due to the community’s Functional disrespect toward a sacred being. structure of the legend as a legend representation of ecological mythology in Tegalwaru society. A qualitative approach was employed, with data obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation in Mekarbuana Village. To ensure credibility and validity, triangulation of sources, methods, and time was implemented. The analysis identified six actantial roles: sender (nature and Dewi Sri), subject (Bakan Jati residents), object (ecological harmony), helper (local traditions, rituals, and natural fertility), opponent (greed, moral violations, and loss of empathy), and receiver (Bakan Jati residents). Functionally, the narrative develops through three stages: an initial state of harmony; a transformation marked by trials, conflicts, and ecological disasters; and an ending in which Bakan Jati Village vanishes as a consequence of ecological transgression. The findings highlight the vital role of local mythology in shaping ecological consciousness and suggest its integration into culturally grounded environmental education.

Abstract

This study discusses the influence of digital platform algorithms on marketing strategies and readers' perception of religious romance novels in the era of platformization. The aim of the research is to explore the role of algorithms in the distribution of works, readers' responses to religious values in narratives, as well as relevant market strategies for religious romance novelists. The method used is a qualitative approach through content analysis and online surveys of Wattpad, Fizzo, and KBM App. Data was collected from popular texts, reader interactions, as well as responses to the themes and moral values featured in the story. The results show that the algorithm significantly affects the reach of the work. Writers who are active, consistently use tags, and build interactions get greater visibility. Readers appreciate the conflict between love and religious values, and make the novel a medium of spiritual reflection. This research recommends collaboration between authors, readers, and platforms to create an adaptive and inclusive religious literary ecosystem.

Abstract

Indonesian language instruction for foreign learners (BIPA) often places strong emphasis on grammatical proficiency while overlooking sociolinguistic competence—an aspect that is crucial for effective intercultural communication. This study aims to describe the implementation of a flipped classroom model in developing pragmatic awareness and register adaptation among BIPA learners. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research involved intermediate-level BIPA students from diverse cultural backgrounds. Data were collected through oral tests, classroom recordings, in-depth interviews, and student-generated digital artifacts. The results indicate significant improvement, particularly in register adaptation and cultural expression, each showing an average gain of 15 points. Qualitatively, learners demonstrated progress in using politeness strategies and shifting speech styles more contextually. The model created a learning space that was not only reflective and participatory, but also culturally relevant. This study recommends the integration of authentic digital content and interactive practices into future BIPA curriculum design, in order to support the formation of learners who are not only fluent, but also socially and culturally sensitive in their use of the Indonesian language.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the labeling process in Leila S. Chudori's novel Namaku Alam (My Name is Alam) related to the main character's status as a child of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI), deviance, and its impact, using Howard S. Becker's labeling theory. The method used is qualitative with a sociology of literary texts (soteksas) approach. Data were obtained through library research and in-depth reading, with the researcher as the main instrument. The unit of analysis includes linguistic and contextual elements that represent the labeling process. The analysis was carried out through the stages of label identification, narrative interpretation, application of Becker's theory (stigma construction, articulation of deviation, and identity response), and connection with the social context. The results show that the character Alam received stigmatic labels such as "bastard child," "traitor," and "itchy widow child" from various social actors, such as teachers, friends, and family. The accumulation of these labels forms a deviant identity, causes psychological stress, and encourages deviant behavior, such as laziness and violence. The impact is seen in the hampered education due to the "clean environment" program and the failure of romantic relationships due to political stigma. These findings suggest that labeling in literary texts reflects social mechanisms that coercively shape identities and limit individual mobility in society.

Abstract

Innovations in higher education learning systems that adapt to advances in digital technology are designed to encourage students to be more active in learning activities and to improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Critical reading is a critical thinking skill that consists of mental processes such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. The blended learning model is an innovative approach to higher education that combines face-to-face learning with online learning. Through video conferencing and online discussion forums, students can interact with reading materials, share ideas, and clarify their understanding. This study aims to analyze the impact of implementing blended learning on improving students' critical reading skills in higher education. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the blended learning model has an impact on improving students' critical reading skills. This is evidenced by the difference between the average initial and final critical reading skills of students. The blended learning model encourages students' independent engagement in learning outside the classroom, enabling them to be more active in analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating reading texts.
