Abstract

This study evaluates the efficiency level of Selected Amil Zakat Institutions (OPZ) in Indonesia with a span of 2017–2021. Data Envelopment Analysis and Tobit Regression were employed to evaluate OPZ performances. The findings show that only two out of 14 OPZ in Indonesia have experienced perfect efficiency, i.e., LAGZIS Peduli in 2017 and LAZISNU in 2019-2021. The inefficiency that befalls OPZ in Indonesia mostly comes from the output variable, i.e., the collection and distribution of social funds. It is expected that OPZ in Indonesia can optimize the collection and distribution of social funds. Another unique finding is that the OPZ in Indonesia tends to stabilize its efficiency level during the COVID-19 pandemic, namely in 2020 and 2021. The Tobit regression shows that the factors of institution size and number of branch offices have a significant influence on the efficiency level of OPZ in Indonesia, inversely proportional to the factors of age and affiliation of Amil Zakat Institutions, which have no significant effect on the efficiency level of the institution

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of the Human Development Index (HDI) and the Information and Communication Technology Development Index (ICT-DI) on the digital zakat in Indonesia. The HDI variable is proxied by the quality of human resources, while ICT-DI is measured by the number of internet users. This study uses a multiple linear model to analyze such an impact. Multiple regression tests are used to determine the particular effect of HDI and ICT-DI on the growth rate of digital zakat. The results show that HDI has partially a significant effect on the digital zakat growth rate. ICT-DI also has a significant and positive influence on digital zakat. At the same time, HDI and ICT-DI have a significant effect on the growth rate of digital zakat. These results have implications for increasing HDI and ICT-DI that can positively impact on the growth rate of digital zakat.

Abstract

This article investigates the history of the institutionalization of Zakat management in Bangladesh and presents an example from the Centre for Zakat Management (CZM). Muslims must make the obligatory charitable donation known as Zakat, one of the five fundamental tenets of Islam, to help those less fortunate in their community. Zakat is a religious tax that has been practiced in Bangladesh, a nation with a large Muslim population, for a very long time; yet, the government did not begin to formally institutionalize the practice until the late 1970s. The Islamic Foundation was given the responsibility of being the national authority in charge of Zakat collecting and distributing after the government acknowledged the significance of efficient Zakat administration in the fight against poverty and acted accordingly by establishing it as the national authority.

Abstract

This article analyzes Good Amil Governance (GAG) at Amil Zakat Institutions (LAZ) in a study of zakat fatwas produced by Islamic community organizations in Indonesia and its relationship with the Zakat Core Principle (ZCP) and its application to Amil Zakat Institutions. This study used qualitative methods and data from interviews, field observations, and literature reviews. The results show that the zakat fatwas reflects the thinking that developed and was adopted by the ulama at that time, was a response to societal problems, and followed the developing social, economic, and political context. Even though the fatwa is not binding, its role as an operational guide for zakat management is vital. The findings of this research: First, the zakat fatwa related to GAG has logical reasoning that is in line with state regulations and the ZCP; second, the fatwa is in line with the government's political interests, especially regarding the authority to manage zakat; third, the fatwa ends the debate about Ulil Amri in the management of zakat; and the four ZCPs are well implemented in LAZ. The zakat fatwa shows the increasing role of Islamic organizations in managing zakat. Research with this theme is rare.

Abstract

The C4.5 algorithm as a prediction method in zakat fundraising. The approach utilized incorporates the CRISP-DM (Cross-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining), which encompasses the data preparation phase to transform raw data into analyzable format, alongside the application of the C4.5 algorithm for constructing a decision tree model. The prediction model formed has the ability to predict the success of zakat fundraising from prospective muzaki. The primary aim of this research is to create a predictive model aimed at assisting the National Amil Zakat Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BAZNAS RI) in enhancing the efficacy of their zakat fundraising strategy planning. Through this prediction model, BAZNAS RI can optimize zakat fundraising strategies and allocate resources more efficiently. The dataset for Muzaki encompasses various demographic factors such as age, gender, occupation group, transaction period, nominal amount, and nominal category, which served as inputs for this study. Evaluation of the model revealed an impressive accuracy rate of 92% in predictive capabilities, suggesting the potential effectiveness of this model as a supportive tool for BAZNAS RI's zakat fundraising endeavors.

Abstract

Poverty in rural areas is always higher than poverty in urban areas. Therefore, poverty alleviation programs should be increased to resolve poverty in rural areas. Most of the potential resources in rural areas are in the agricultural sector, one of which is animal husbandry. The National Board of Zakat (BAZNAS) as a zakat management institution has initiated a program for utilizing zakat through empowering livestock breeders known as Balai Ternak. The research was conducted to determine the influence of Balai Ternak program in alleviating poverty. The research method was carried out by quantitative analysis of income data of 58 mustahik breeder families assisted by BAZNAS in the Balai Ternak program in Purworejo Regency, Central Java Province. Breeder income data was compared before the program and after the program. Furthermore, income after the program is compared with the Central Java Province poverty line standard, the Central Java Province had kifayah standard, and the national zakat nisab standard. The research results show that the Purworejo Regency Balai Ternak BAZNAS program was able to reduce the number of poor families by 50.0 percent. The decrease in the number of poor families was followed by an increase in the number of breeders whose income was above the kifayah limit by 41.5 percent and mustahik breeders who became muzakki by 10.3 percent.

Abstract

In the digital era, e-service quality plays a crucial role in determining the success of online businesses, including zakat services. This study explores the impact of e-service quality on customer satisfaction, customer trust and institutional reputation, as well as its effects on customer behaviors such as repurchase intention, word-of-mouth promotion and site revisit. Through an online survey of 250 users of online zakat services and analysis using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), this research found that usability and service interaction significantly contribute to enhancing e-service quality, which directly increases customer satisfaction and trust. Although customer satisfaction can increase repurchase intention, it does not directly increase word of mouth or site revisit, indicating the important role of other factors such as spiritual values and social recommendations. High e-service quality also strengthens the institution's reputation, underlining the importance of maintaining high online service quality to retain customer trust and loyalty. This study recommends zakat institutions to improve usability and service interaction on their online platforms to strengthen customer relationships. Further research is suggested to explore other variables that influence customer behavior in the context of online zakat.
