Abstract

This research was conducted in January 2020 in the waters of the Sembilan Dumai River which aims to determine the concentration of nitrate and phosphate on the primary productivity of phytoplankton. The research method used in this research is the survey method while the determination of the research station was done by technic purposive sampling. The results showed that the average nitrate concentration ranged from 0.0194 - 0.0749 mg/l and the average phosphate concentration ranged from 0.1452 - 0.8502 mg/l. There are 6 classes of phytoplankton found in the waters of the Sembilan Dumai River, namely Bacillariophyceae, Cocinodiscophyceae, Chroococcophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Cyanobacteria and Xanthophyceae. The results of phytoplankton abundance calculations ranged from 74.07 - 280.09 Ind/L. The primary productivity value of phytoplankton for gross primary productivity ranged from 62.5 - 104.16 mgC/m2/jam, respiration values ranged from 20.83 - 41.66 mgC/m2/jam and the net primary productivity value ranged from 41.67 - 72.91 mgC/m2/jam. The results of the multiple linear regression test for the relationship between nitrate and phosphate on the primary productivity of phytoplankton at each station are shown by the mathematical equation Y = 60.18 + (-233,19,35) x and Y = 60.18 + 30.44x with the coefficient of determination ( R2) = 0.140 and (R2) = 0.226 and the correlation coefficient (r) = 0.631, the mathematical equation states that the relationship between nitrate and phosphate on the primary productivity of phytoplankton is strong.

Abstract

Organic matter has an important role in marine ecology and it can be used as an indicator of water fertility. The content of organic matter in the waters in a certain amount can be useful for aquatic biota, but if it exceeds the acceptable threshold for the environment and organisms, it can cause disturbances. The content of organic matter in the waters will increase due to waste from households, agriculture, industry, and organic waste from land that is carried into the waters. Various community and industrial activities both on land and waters in the South of Bengkalis Island can provide input of organic matter in the waters. The method used in this research is a survey method that is carried out directly in the field to collect data and samples which are then analyzed. This study aims to determine the content of organic matter in water and sediment and analyze their possible relationship. The results showed that the organic matter content of the water ranged from 34.36 – 35.96 mg/L and the organic matter content of the sediment ranged from 4.78 – 13.78%. The content of organic matter in the waters has not exceeded the quality standard threshold. The results of a simple linear regression test showed a positive relationship with an R2 value of 0.712, which means that the relationship between the organic matter content of water and sediment is quite strong (71.2%). The types of sediment in the southern waters of Bengkalis Island are the mud type

Abstract

Polyculture is cultivation in one container that produces more than one species of fish simultaneously. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect on the growth of gouramy in polyculture system. This study uses an experimental method of Completely Randomized Design (CRD) 4 treatments and 4 repetitions that is P1 (15 species gouramy), P2 (10 species of limnetic lobster ad is species of gouramy), P3 (15 species of limnetic lobster and 15 species of gouramy), and P4 (20 species of limnetic and 15 species of gouramy). The data analysis used is analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) for futher test, while the quality of water is analysed descriptively. The observation result show that different stocking density treatment affects absolute length growth of gouramy (O.gouramy). This is because the stocking density of limnetic lobster (C. quadricarinatus) is different for each treatment on gouramy (O. gouramy). The highest average result of measure ment of absolute weight growth is 1,45 ± 0,017 g. This is because the stocking density of limnetic lobster (C. quadricarinatus) at P2 is low. Low stocking density provides suitable space for gouramy to move and live. The maintenance of the polyculture system is better done with 10 species of limnetic lobster and 15 species gouramy because it makes the best absolute length and weight growth.
