A vital programme that can bring into being requisite workforce for sustainable industrial and technological development is Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET). To this end, this study investigated the strategies for sprouting sustainable industrial and technological workforce through TVET in Nigeria using the descriptive survey research design. The study was guided with two research questions and two hypotheses. The sample was made up of 300 respondents comprising of 154 TVET Lecturers from Universities and 146 TVET industry-based workers in South-South Geopolitical Zone of Nigeria, who were selected using simple random and convenience sampling techniques respectively. The instrument used for data collection was a 69-item questionnaire which was validated by three experts. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha and a reliability coefficient of .86 was obtained. Mean and standard deviations statistics were used to answer the research questions, whereas t-test statistic was used to test the null hypotheses at .05 level of significance. The findings of this study revealed that TVET programmes had some policy-related challenges; and TVET institutions-workplace collaboration is a possible strategy for sprouting sustainable industrial and technological workforce in Nigeria. Thus, among others, it was recommended that firm TVET policy document be set-up by government and all stakeholders to appropriately synchronize TVET programmes towards sprouting sustainable industrial and technological workforce in Nigeria.

Abstract

Abstract

Employability skills for students are believed to reduce the mismatch between the supply of vocational high school graduates and the demand of job vacancy from industry. For more than three centuries, the gap between the vocational high school and the workplace has become people?s concern. It seems that this issue will not end in the near future, rather will be more interesting to be studied because of the complexity of the relationship between the two sectors. The objective of this study, therefore, is to discover of how well employability skills is adopted in the school level curriculum (KTSP) of vocational high schools in Indonesia. To achieve the research?s objective, the content analysis to the curriculum was applied. The analysis of KTSP in the subject of entrepreneurship (ENT) and the computer and information management (KKPI) discovers the limited concern and the incomprehensive areas of employability skills adopted. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of dual system education at SMK Muhammadiyah Wanareja, a vocational high school (VHS) in Central Java, Indonesia, starting from the preparation stage to the implementation and the obstacles faced and the solutions implemented. The method in this study used a descriptive qualitative technique with data collection, documentation, and observation. The data analysis technique uses the interactive techniques of Milles and Hubberman with the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Test the validity and reliability of the data using the source triangulation technique. Respondents in this study were the vice principal of public relations affairs, teachers, students, and leaders or trainers from the industry. The results of the study show that the dual system education implemented is going well even though there are some obstacles in its implementation. Industrial work practice activities are carried out for the full six months and based on the results of competency tests carried out by the school after the industrial work practice activities. Data is obtained that students have competencies by following the expertise program and the competency grid determined by the school. Both institutions face obstacles in the implementation of dual system education. The obstacles faced by schools are the non-implementation of learning normative and adaptive subjects planned with online systems, the limited means of learning vocational and workforce practices. The obstacles faced by the industry are with single instructors and the number of participants in industrial work practices and implementation that are different from each school. Solutions implemented by schools related to normative and adaptive learning during the implementation of industrial work practices, schools conduct material enrichment for one month with a block system.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a combination of problem-based learning and group investigation (PBL Go-In) methods on the competence of the Motorcycle Engineering and Business Program students. This study is an experimental implementation method using quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The results of the study obtained the application of the PBL Go-In model consisting of 7 stages, namely, presentation of problem situations, investigation and exploration, formulation of tasks, learning activities, analysis of progress, presentation, and assessment. The results of the analysis suggest that there are differences in the level of competency of students before and after the PBL Go-In method is implemented. The percentage of students passing minimum grade of 75 before treatment was 8.7%, and after treatment became 82.6%. Thus, it can be said that PBL Go-In learning model is potential to improve the students competence.
