Abstract

Geographic tongue is a disorder which appears on the tongue in the form of an asymptomatic lesion, but its existence is rarely known, thus the prevalence of this disorder tends to be low. This disorder is strongly suspected to be influenced by genetic fac-tors and other predisposition factors. Several studies have revealed that this lesion occur more frequently on women than on men. The purpose of this research is to determine the prevalence of geographic tongue, based on the age and gender, among the stu-dents in SD Saraswati 2 Denpasar. The research is conducted using the descriptive epidemiology research method, and the re-sults attained are presented in a table and explained descriptively. The samples are all students from the 1st grade until the 6th grade with an overall total of 584. The research results show that the prevalence of the geographic tongue disorder is 28 people (4.80%). There were 15 girls (5.17%) who were afflicted, while there were 13 boys (4.42%). This disorder appeared most in the age group of 7 years old. This study found that 3 people (0.51%) claimed there are symptoms or pain, while the remaining 25 people (4.28%) do not show any symptoms or pain.

Abstract

Several methods are available for the management of partial tooth loss, namely by using removable partial dentures, fixed den-tures, and implants. Combined dentures can be the treatment of choice when implant or FD are not possible and can be an ade-quate alternative to conventional clasps and RPD. This article is intended to determine the maxillary prosthodontic rehabilita-tion with RPD using an extracoronal attachment. The repair of partially missing teeth is a challenge in treatment planning. The technique followed by the care of the patient is effective in providing optimal care for an individual. The use of the combined RPD and FD makes for more retentive and esthetic, stable and function in the replacement of missing teeth. Long-term suc-cess requires sophisticated laboratory techniques, clinical expertise, and depends on biological factors, especially periodontal conditions.

Abstract

Anterior crossbite is a condition that occurs due to discrepancy between the maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth in occlusion which the maxillary teeth are more lingual than the mandibular teeth. Anterior crossbite often occurs in children in the mixed dentition phase, so treatment is needed as early as possible to eliminate the causes of malocclusion and the need for more com-plex orthodontic treatment. There are various treatments for anterior crossbite, one of them is the inclined bite plane. This litera-ture review aims to determine the treatment of anterior crossbite with inclined bite plane and the factors that influence the duration of treatment. The method used is to collect literature from search engines such as Pubmed, Scielo, Google Scholar, Science Di-rect, Elsevier, Ajodo.org which discusses the treatment of anterior crossbite with inclined bite plane, then reviewed. From the results of the journal search, 7 literatures relevant to the topic were obtained. From the results of the literature review, it can be concluded that the treatment of anterior crossbite with inclined bite plane is quite effective. The factors that influence the du-ration of treatment are motivation, cooperation, and the type of inclined bite plane that used by the patient.

Abstract

One of the causes of temporomandibular disorder (TMD), which is a bad habit of chewing on one side. The occurrence of TMD can be characterized by limited mouth opening of less than 40 mm. Maximum mouth opening distance can be influenced by gender, age, weight, and height. This study is intended to determine the interincisal distance of maximum mouth opening in unilateral chewing habit. By using descriptive observational study with a purposive sampling technique, it was obtained of 25 subjects, students from the Faculty of Dentistry, Mahasaraswati Denpasar University. Data collection was carried out by using a sliding caliper direct to measure the distance of interincisal when open the mouth. The results showed that 10 men (40%) had an average maximum mouth opening of 42.6 mm, 15 women (60%) had an average maximum mouth opening of 39.6 mm, 5 people (20%) with a body weight of 41-50 kg had the lowest average maximum mouth opening of 37.4 mm, 4 people (16%) with a body weight of 81-90 kg had the highest maximum mouth opening of 45.5 mm, 2 people (8%) with a body height of 151-160 cm had the lowest maximum mouth opening of 36.5 mm, 8 people (32%) with a body height of 171-180 cm had the highest maximum mouth opening of 42.3 mm and 25 people (100%) had a maximum mouth opening of 40.8 mm. It was con-cluded that there are 48% (12 people) subjects have an average maximum mouth opening distance with a limited category of 36.3 mm and 52% (13 people) subjects have an average maximum mouth opening distance with a normal category of 45 mm.

Abstract

Bolton analysis is one of the analyzes used in determining tooth size discrepancies, the ratio of size of mesiodistal teeth is very important in determining orthodontic treatment plans so that good occlusion can be achieved as a result of treatment. The aim of this study is to find out the width of mesiodistal teeth crowded with Bolton's analysis of Balinese men and women. This des-criptive research method using purposive sampling technique, used 40 models study samples of male and female from Balinese patients at the Mahasaraswati Denpasar University Dental Hospital. The largest contour of mesial to distal dimension of the tooth measured parallel to the occlusal plane. The results obtained were anterior ratios and the overall analysis of Bolton in the Balinese tribe. The anterior ratio of the Balinese men and women was obtained at 79.55%±3.40 and 61.57%±5.32. The overall ratio of Balinese men and women was obtained at 91.66%±2.57 and 102.50%±5.26. It was concluded that Bolton's anterior ra-tio and Bolton's overall ratio in crowded teeth of Balinese men and women show an average value that exceeds Bolton's ideal value, so that the location of faulty teeth of the Balinese tribe can be seen in the mandible.

Abstract

Malocclusion is an occlusion that deviates from normal conditions, there is irregularity tooth or incorrect placement of dental arches outside the normal curve. Malocclusion can be caused by various factors, such as sucking habit. Sucking habit is divided into nutritive sucking habit and non-nutritive sucking habit. This literature review is aimed to describe the roles of nutritive and non-nutritive sucking habit on malocclusion. Eleven articles were obtained through articles search engines such as Google Scho-lar and PubMed. From the literature search, it was found that breast feeding and bottle feeding do not cause malocclusion, but several studies stated that bottle feeding can cause malocclusion. Meanwhile, finger sucking and pacifying are considered to cause malocclusion. Nutritive sucking habit and non-nutritive sucking habit are also related, children who do not breastfeed di-rectly from their mother or breastfeed less than 6 months are more likely to use pacifier or suck their fingers.

Abstract

Malocclusion is a common condition in the world's population but is not considered as a normal condition. A normal dentofacial development depends on the normal function of the muscles around the mouth, the balance between the muscles of the lips, cheeks from the outside of the dental arch and the inside of the tongue needs to be maintained. The imbalance of the three orofa-cial muscles will affect the development of dentofacial structures. Malocclusion occurs due to several factors including genetic factors and environmental factors. Prevention of malocclusion can be done in several ways, namely eliminating prolonged bad habits and improving nutrition during pregnancy. If malocclusion has occurred, treatment is carried out as early as possible so as not to aggravate the malocclusion.
