Abstract

Objective: Mixed dentition is a stage where teeth of both deciduous and permanent dentition are seen from 6-12 years of age and most malocclusions make their appearance during this stage. Interceptive orthodontic treatment aims to recognize and elimina-te dental irregularities in the developing dentofacial complex to prevents malocclusion from worsening in the future. Intercepti-ve Orthodontic Treatment Need Index (I-OTNI) is an interceptive orthodontic treatment filtering instrument on children in mixed dentition. The aim of this study is to know the age of highest interceptive orthodontic treatment need on 8-11 years old child-ren in mixed dentition at SDK Santo Yoseph 1 Denpasar. Methods: Descriptive study with cross sectional approach, with sam-ples that match the inclusion criteria, conducted by intraoral examination for identification and fill in I-OCN form for classi-fication based on orthodontic treatment need. Result: 56.81% samples of 8 years old children, 46.34% samples of 9 years old children, 30.43% samples of 10 years old children, and 32.55% samples of 11 years old children need interceptive orthodontic treatment. Conclusion: Children at 8 years of age is the highest need of interceptive orthodontic treatment followed by 9 years of age. The 8 and 9-years-old children need more interceptive orthodontic treatment than 10 and 11-years old children that mea-sured using I-OTNI at SDK Santo Yoseph 1 Denpasar.

Abstract

Caries occurs due to the presence of pathogenic microorganisms such as Streptococcus mutans bacteria. One way to prevent caries is to inhibit the S.mutans bacteria. This study used the dilution method to determine the inhibition and killing power of pineapple (Ananas comosus L. Merr) weevil extract against S.mutans bacteria. The extract was obtained by maceration me-thod and made with concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. The results were extract with a maximum concentration of 50% could inhibit bacterial growth, at a concentration of 75% and 100% showed no bacteria growing on the media. The nor-mality test using Shapiro-Wilk, explained that data were normally distributed; the homogeneity test using the Levene test, ex-plained the data were homogeneous. One-way Anova was used to determine the differences between treatment groups and the value of ρ (Sig.) < 0.05 was obtained, which means that there is a significant difference and is continued with test least significant difference (LSD) to find out the difference in each concentration. The pineapple weevil extract have the inhibition and killing power to inhibit and kill bacteria S.mutans.

Abstract

Local anesthetic agents are drugs used to relieve pain that may occur during dental procedures, one of them is tooth extraction. Lo-cal anesthetics are divided into two groups, namely esters and amides. Local anesthetics aim to immobilize the sensory nerves locally by administering drugs or other medical interventions so that the patient cannot feel pain for a certain duration of time. The use of local anesthesia is usually combined with topical anesthesia to relieve pain due to needle injection. Giving local anes-thesia to children is a psychological barrier for children because usually children are not tolerant of pain and fear. Providing good dental care without pain and comfort is the dentist's responsibility.

Abstract

Cancer is a chronic disease and is the third leading cause of death in children aged 1-14 years. About one third of cancer in child-ren is leukemia with an incidence of 9 cases per 100,000 population. Leukemia is a malignancy of blood cells originating from the bone marrow and can occur in children and adults. Early detection of oral lesions is very important for the prevention and treatment of complications that may arise during therapy, a better prognosis, lower morbidity and mortality for that disease. Oral manifestations of leukemia are gingival enlargement and spontaneous bleeding, oral ulceration, petechiae, hematoma and pale mucosa. Oral lesions occur in both acute and chronic forms of all types of leukemia and are more common in the acute stage. Dental care for patients with leukemia should be focused on preventing injury, local control of gingival bleeding by re-moving the biofilm, and prevention of oral infection. Oral hygiene by brushing teeth, use of fluoride, and a non-cariogenic diet should also be emphasized during treatment.

Abstract

Over recent years temporomandibular disorders (TMD) have been reported to increase in numbers. The TMD is a condition that causes the temporomandibular joint and or chewing muscles not to function normally and is often observed in combinations; covers a large area and has major symptoms like pain, followed by limitations in the mandibular movement, and other clinical problems. If the disorder is not treated immediately, it will cause pathological changes and create more complex conditions. Al-though the risk factors of the TMD are still debated, they nonetheless have been found to be in the development of the disorders. In short, identifying, understanding, and controlling the risk factors may help to prevent the TMD, and more benefits lead to a successful treatment.

Abstract

Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is the most common non-dental pain in the maxillofacial region. The diagnosis and ma-nagement of TMD, remains a challenge for clinicians to this day, despite extensive clinical research into the topic. DC/TMD Protocol emerged in 1992 as Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorder (RDC/TMD). A dual-axis system of DC/TMD protocol composed of physical diagnoses (axis I) and psychosocial profiles (axis II), to diagnose TMD based on research results that is the most widely accepted and standardized tool for assessment and classification of TMD, with sensiti-vity and specificity established for the most common diagnoses of TMD. Other diagnostic tests also can provide additional in-formation that may help verify or challenge the established clinical diagnosis. There are many different types of radiographic techniques that can be used to gain additional insight into the health and function of the TMJ. The fourth techniques are pano-noramic, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), magnetic resonance image (MRI), and bone scintigraphy. Ultrasound images of the joints and surrounding tissues also can help to diagnose TMD. Another diagnostic tool to evaluate muscle func-tion is electromyograph. Its efficiency is directly and objectively to detect electrical potential. These diagnostic methods and de-vices are commonly used by clinicians to diagnose TMD easily with determining specific tools.

Abstract

In the last few decades, digital dentistry based on computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) has been increasingly discussed. The use of CAD/CAM for the manufacture of fixed dentures shows a high success rate. Currently, CAD/CAM for the manufacture of removable partial dentures (RPD) has also been used in several studies. Several studies have been conducted to determine the level of accuracy and suitability of the manufacture of RPD made conventionally and CAD/ CAM systems, but there are still differences in results. Therefore, in this literature review, it will be discussed the comparison of the accuracy and suitability of conventionally made RPD and CAD/CAM systems.

Abstract

Background: Endodontic is a treatment that aims to eliminate bacteria from the root canal system. One of the bacteria that causes root canal treatment failure is Enterococcus faecalis. Chemomechanical preparation and root canal irrigation are not sufficient to eliminate bacteria completely, so root canal medication is necessary to make it more efficient. Moringa leaves contain tannins, flavonoids and saponins which have antibacterial properties. Objective: To determine whether moringa leaf nanoparticle paste had antibacterial effectiveness against the bacterium E.faecalis. Method: Experimental laboratory with posttest with control group design with Kirby-Bauer method. The sample consisted of moringa leaf nanoparticles with concentrations of 1% and 2.5%, calcium hydroxide and aquadest with each of them being repeated 3 times. The diameter of the inhibition zone was de-termined based on the inhibitory ability of the bacteria saturated on MHA agar media. Results: the result showed that the ave-rage diameter of the inhibition zone of moringa leaf nanoparticle paste with concentrations of 1% was 8.48 mm, 2.5% was 9.17 mm and calcium hydroxide was 10.2 mm. Data processing showed that the 2.5% moringa leaf nanoparticle paste group had the same antibacterial effect as the calcium hydroxide group. Conclusion: Moringa leaf nanoparticle paste (Moringa oleifera) with concentrations of 1% and 2.5% was quite effective in inhibiting the growth of E.faecalis.
