Abstract

Abstract. Dental implant are becoming more popular option for permanent teeth replacement in this new era. However, in some cases we can’t use favorable implants in the maxillary premolar and molar region. This is because atrophy is observed following tooth extraction in this region. Sinus lift procedures are a commonly accepted method of bone augmentation in the lateral maxilla which aims to increased vertical bone high volume in the maxillary sinus by lifting the lower alveolar bone height and placing or without placing a bone graft in order to enable installation of dental implants preparation with clinically good results. Sinus lifting with the lateral window technique are one of the methods to correct the height of inadequate bone in the posterior area of maxilla for preparation of dental implant insertion. Dental implant placement with sinus lifting lateral window technique can be performed in 1 or 2 surgical stages depending on the residual alveolar bone height. The aim of this article was to describe the surgical procedure of sinus lifting with lateral window technique to enable preparation the installation of dental implant based on review the literature by several researchers in years 2007 – 2021. Conclusions: Dental Implant placement procedure with sinus lifting lateral window technique has a high survival rate although it is not possible to identify it’s correct indication and contraindication. Within the limitations of this review literature practicioners should select the adequate type of procedure and needed concidering anatomical variation of the sinus maxillaris Abstrak. Pada periode masa baru ini dental implant menjadi pilihan popular untuk menggantikan gigi asli yang hilang. Namun, pada beberapa kasus kita tidak dapat melakukan pemasangan implant pada maksila di regio molar dan premolar. Hal ini disebabkan adanya atrofi yang terjadi pada daerah tersebut akibat ekstraksi gigi. Prosedur sinus lifting adalah metode bone augmentation pada bagian lateral maksila yang secara umum dapat diterima dan tujuannya adalah untuk meningkatkan volume tinggi tulang vertikal pada sinus maksilaris dengan cara menempatkan atau tanpa menempatkan cangkok tulang pada tulang alveolar yang rendah untuk persiapan pemasangan implant dan secara klinis memberikan hasil yang baik. Sinus lifting dengan teknik lateral window adalah salah satu metode untuk koreksi tinggi tulang yang tidak memadai pada daerah posterior maksila untuk persiapan pemasangan implant. Pemasangan implant dengan sinus lifting teknik lateral window dapat dilakukan dalam 1 atau 2 tahap operasi tergantung dari sisa tinggi tulang alveolar. Tujuan penulisan artikel ini adalah untuk menjabarkan prosedur sinus lifting dengan teknik lateral window untuk persiapan pemasangan implant berdasarkan tinjauan literatur beberapa peneliti dari tahun 2007 – 2021. Kesimpulan: prosedur pemasangan implant disertai sinus lifting dengan teknik lateral window rata-rata memberikan hasil yang tinggi walaupun sulit untuk identifikasi indikasi dan kontraindikasi yang tepat. Dalam keterbatasan dari tinjauan pustaka ini, para praktisi harus dapat memilih prosedur yang tepat dan mampu memperhatikan anatomi dari sinus maksilaris.

Abstract

Endodontic treatment can be used to treat root canal infections.In endodontic treatment, calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2 is commonly used as an intracanal medicament, because of its high alkaline pH, which results in antimicrobial properties. Nanoparticles are technological advancements used to improve the antimicrobial properties of Ca(OH)2.The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of particle size on the pH of Ca(OH)2 paste dissolved in various solvents,including distilled water,propylene glycol,and polyethylene glycol with anL/Pratio of 0.8.Atotalof24samplesofCa(OH)2 pastewereplacedinaplastic tube with a height of 10 mm and a diameter of 2 mm and immersed in 10 mL distilled water in an incubator at 37oC.The pH was measured on day1,day7,andday14.One-way Anova (p<0.05) was used to analyze the collected data revealed that conventional Ca(OH)2 and nanoparticles Ca(OH)2 (NCa) had nearly the same pH on day 1,day 7,and day14inallsolvents. NCa had a lower pH than conventional Ca(OH)2 in all samples.It is concluded that Ca(OH)2 particle size did not affect the pH of the Ca(OH)2 paste.

Abstract

Internal bleaching is a non-vital bleaching tooth method performed after endodontic treatment of discolored teeth, by the applica-tion of strong oxidator agents in pulp chamber. Internal bleaching agents can have adverse effects, one of which is the reduced bond strength of the composite resin with the tooth structure. There are various types of antioxidants that can improve bond strength after internal bleaching procedures, generally synthetic antioxidant ingredients. Besides that, many antioxidants from na-tural plant extracts have been developed, such as green tea extract, pine bark, rosemary, pomegranate peel and grape seed. The objective of this article is to improve knowledge about antioxidant materials that can be used to increase the bond strength of composite resin on the tooth structure after internal bleaching. The use of bleaching agents has been shown to reduce the bond strength of composite resin after internal bleaching. Researchers have focus on plant extracts to develop a non-toxic, biocompa-tible and effective antioxidant protocol which can be safely applied to oxidized tooth structures. It is concluded that there are various kinds of antioxidants materials from natural plant extracts which can be used in dentistry to increase the bond strength of composite resin on the tooth structure after internal bleaching.

Abstract

Fucoidans are sulfated polysaccharides found in marine algae and have many benefits, including antitumor effects, increasing apoptosis of cancer cells, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and hypoallergenic. In oral health, several case reports have shown that creams and tablets containing fucoidan are proven to treat recurrent aphthous stomatitis and recurrent oral herpes labialis. The aim of this study was to investigate the properties of fucoidans used in oral health as antimicrobial and antibacteria. Secondary data and literature study were analyzed descriptively by presenting and comparing the results of research on the use of fucoidan extract from brown algae as an antibacterial agent for teeth. Fucoidan extract from brown algae has been proven has the ability to inhibit bacteria that cause damage to the oral cavity, Streptococcus mutans, Porphyromonas gingivalis and Fusobacterium. Four main results were obtained: fucoidans showed strong antimicrobial activity against C.albicans, S.mutans, and P.gingiva-lis; attachment is obstructed, S.mutans on bovine and porcelain teeth; exhibit COX-1 and or COX-2 inhibitory activity. It is concluded that fucoidan extract from brown algae can reduce oral pathogens and has antibacterial activity

Abstract

Recent studies implicate exposure to systemic conditions involving chronic inflammation, including chronic periodontitis, in the etiology of atherosclerosis. Periodontal disease is a very common disorder affecting the global population. This study briefly describes chronic periodontitis as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease in atherosclerosis based on existing literature. Ten articles from various electronic databases and manual searches were reviewed that updated the epidemiologic evidence of a signi-ficant association between periodontitis and arterosclerosis, mechanistic relationships and the impact of periodontal therapy on cardiovascular. The review also focused on the potential risks and complications of periodontal therapy on antithrombotic therapy. It is concluded that in both diseases multiple systemic inflammatory mechanisms including elevated levels of inflam-matory mediators, lipids, and hemostatic and thrombotic factors occur, thus there appears to be an association between chronic periodontitis on the one hand and atherosclerotic disease on the other.

Abstract

Anchorage control is one of the most important-key to obtain successful in clinical orthodontic. Mini-implant orthodontic as known as miniscrew or temporary anchorage devices (TAD) created absolute anchorage. Miniscrew anchorage has greatly ex-panded the limit of clinical orthodontics. Even without patient compliance, miniscrews can provide stationary anchorages for various tooth movements and even make it possible to move the tooth in directions which have been impossible with tradition-al orthodontic mechanics. Orthodontic miniscrew have high mechanical retention with some advantage include adequate anchor-age against uncooperative patient, minimal surgical invasive, allow insertion and removal procedure and no expansion effect re-latively. Application of miniscrew in orthodontic treatment need much attention for some aspects like type and part of mini-screw, indication and contraindication, clinical procedure include insertion and removal of miniscrew moreover unpredict-able complication. Miniscrew is one type of TAD that widely used in orthodontic treatment in providing absolute anchorage

Abstract

The occurrence of tooth discoloration on one or more anterior teeth can significantly interfere with the aesthetics of the smile, thus encouraging patients to seek aesthetic dental treatment. One of the most popular dental aesthetic procedures is external bleach-ing treatment. This case report describes about management of teeth discoloration with external bleaching using bleaching agent 40% hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) without light activation. A 27-year-old female came to the Dental Hospital of Universitas Ha-sanuddin with complaints of yellowish upper and lower teeth. The patient feels less confident and wants the teeth look white and brighter. The external bleaching procedure is preceded by initial color determination score of 7 with an opalescence boost shade guide. A dental optragate was placed in the patient’s mouth, followed by cleaning the surface of the teeth with a brush and pumice, application of an astringent, gingival barrier in the upper and lower teeth. Application of 40% H2O2 bleach agent for 20 minutes, then cleaned, desensitizing agent application, and final color adjustment with score of 4. It is concluded that external bleaching with 40% H2O2 without light activation effectively whiten teeth and reduce the risk dentin hypersensitivity.

Abstract

Karies gigi yang tidak dirawat dapat berkembang menjadi nekrosis pulpa dan selanjutnya menjadi gangren radiks; keduanya berpotensi menimbulkan infeksi jika dibiarkan. Penelitian ini membandingkan prevalensi kunjungan kasus nekrosis pulpa dan gangren radiks berdasarkan jenis kelamin dan usia di UPTD Puskesmas Baturiti II Tabanan selama Januari-Maret 2025. Metode deskriptif kuantitatif digunakan dengan teknik purposive sampling pada data sekunder sistem e-puskesmas. Tampak prevalensi gangren radiks (7,2%) lebih tinggi dibandingkan nekrosis pulpa (5,9%). Kunjungan pasien perempuan lebih dominan pada kedua kasus, 52,7% pada nekrosis pulpa dan 56,5% pada gangren radiks. Kelompok usia 20-44 tahun menjadi usia terbanyak pada nekrosis pulpa (42,1%), sedangkan gangren radiks paling banyak terjadi pada usia 45-59 tahun (34,8%). Hal ini menunjukkan keterlambatan perawatan gigi yang berdampak pada progresivitas penyakit. Faktor perilaku dan tingkat pengetahuan masyarakat yang masih rendah turut berkontribusi terhadap tingginya angka kejadian. Disimpulkan bahwa peningkatan komunikasi, informasi, dan edukasi mengenai kesehatan gigi dan mulut diperlukan terutama pada fasilitas pelayanan kesehatan primer.

Abstract

Penggunaan antibiotik dalam pengobatan periodontitis sering menyebabkan resistensi, sehingga diperlukan bahan alternatif dari alam. Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) mengandung senyawa aktif seperti saponin, flavonoid, tanin, dan antrakuinon yang memiliki sifat antibakteri. Penelitian ini menguji efektivitas ekstrak aloe vera terhadap pertumbuhan Porphyromonas gingivalis dengan mengukur zona inhibisi, konsentrasi hambat minimum (KHM), dan konsentrasi bakterisida minimum (KBM). Penelitian eksperimen laboratorium ini menggunakan metode difusi cakram untuk menguji zona inhibisi, dan metode pengenceran untuk menentukan KHM dan KBM dengan konsentrasi ekstrak adalah 3,12%, 6,25%, 12,50%, 25%, 50%, dan 100%, dengan kontrol positif metronidazole dan kontrol negatif etanol 96%. Ekstrak aloe vera efektif menghambat pertumbuhan P.gingivalis. Diameter zona hambatan terbesar ditemukan pada konsentrasi 100% (27,16 mm), sedangkan konsentrasi terendah 3,12% (8,8 mm). Nilai KHM ditemukan pada konsentrasi 3,12%, dan nilai pada konsentrasi 12,50%. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak aloevera, semakin besar daya penghambatan, bahkan pada konsentrasi 50% dan 100%, efektivitasnya lebih tinggi daripada metronidazole. Disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak aloe vera memiliki potensi sebagai agen antibakteri alami terhadap P.gingivalis dan dapat menjadi alternatif dalam pengobatan penyakit periodontal.

Abstract

Masalah kesehatan gigi dapat terjadi pada semua kelompok usia, terutama anak, penting untuk diperhatikan. Masalah gigi yang banyak terjadi pada anak selain karies adalah persistensi gigi sulung. Penelitian ini dilakukan di UPTD Puskesmas Selemadeg Timur I, Tabanan, Bali, pada bulan Januari-Maret 2025. Penelitian ini dilakukan secara observasi dengan metode cross-sectional. Data kunjungan penderita kasus persistensi gigi sulung di UPTD Puskesmas Selemadeg Timur I sebanyak 359 pasien. Disimpulkan bahwa tingginya kasus persitensi di UPTD dapat disebabkan oleh ku-rangnya pengetahuan pada orang tua.
