Abstract

Anterior crossbite can cause pathological conditions in the periodontal tissues, such as tooth mobility similar to dentoalveolar post-traumatic conditions. An 8-year-old boy presented with complaints of mobility in the mandibular anterior teeth. Dental trauma treatment using splints worsened the patient's condition. Through communication and pedodontic triangle principle, it was diag-nosed as periodontal abscess due to anterior crossbite. Treatment was carried out using a bite elevation on the posterior teeth as it did not increase the occlusal pressure load received on the mandibular anterior teeth. The crossbite was corrected and the periodontal status improved within 7 days. It was concluded that diagnosis in children is challenging due to frequent misdiag-nosis. Treatment of periodontal abscess due to anterior crossbite using bite elevation on posterior teeth as it is considered as an emergency treatment to reduce occlusal pressure on mandibular anterior teeth.

Abstract

Treatment using a denture can be either a fixed denture or a removable denture. Silica is naturally found in diatoms, sponges, and sea sand. Silica has high hardness properties. The study aimed to determine the effect of nanosilica addition of diatom extract Thalassiosira Sp on compressive and tensile strength of glass ionomer cement (GIC) luting material. This laboratory experimen-tal study was designed as the post-test only control group, involving five treatment groups; RMGIC, GIC without nanosilica, nanosi-lica addition ratio of 1%, 3%, 5% (nanosilica and GIC ratio). The compressive and tensile strength levels after the addition of dia-tomaceous nanosilica were measured using a Micro Vickers Hardness Tester. The lowest compressive strength value was found in the 1% GIC+nanosilica sample, while the most optimal value was found in the 3% GIC+nanosilica sample. The lowest tensile strength value was found in the 1% GIC+nanosilica sample, while the most optimal was in the 3% GIC+nanosilica sample. It is concluded that there is an effect of nanosilica addition on compressive strength and tensile strength of GIC luting material with the addition of 3% nanosilica.

Abstract

Complete dentures are often problematic, especially in terms of retention and stabilisation, especially if the aveolar ridge is re-sorbed. The use of magnets can improve the retention and stabilisation of GTS or GTL and overdentures. This article discusses how to improve denture retention and stability. A 74-year-old man complained of difficulty chewing due to partial loss of upper and lower jaw teeth and currently ate only soft foods. The patient had used a denture before but it was loose and wanted a denture that was comfortable and easy to use and improved his appearance and mastication. It was concluded that the magnetic sup-port complete denture can improve retention and stability so that the patient feels satisfied and comfortable because the den-ture is more retentive and stable.

Abstract

Alveolar bone resorption is a frequent physiological and pathological condition. The alveolar lingir may become flat or the sur-rounding soft tissues may become flabby. Flabby cases require modification of the impression tray and different moulding tech-niques. This manuscript reports the treatment of a complete denture with flabby ridge and flat ridge conditions but with adequate retention and stability. A 45-year-old female presented to the prosthodontics clinic with chewing difficulties due to loss of all maxil-lary and mandibular teeth. After clinical examination and panaromic radiographs, there was flabby mucosa in the anterior maxil-lary and flat ridge in the posterior mandibular region. The CDs were made using open window impression technique and occlu-sion concept was determined on tooth preparation. It was concluded that the open window impression method and the concept of occlusion on the flabby ridge and flat ridge can produce CDs that have good retention and stability.

Abstract

There are various treatment options to rehabilitate bilateral free-end edentulous. Common problems encountered for such cases are difficult retention and stability as well as compromised aesthetics. A hybrid prosthesis or precision attachment is a good treat-ment option in terms of aesthetics, retention and stability. This article discusses the treatment procedure using precision attach-ment in a man who presented with complaints of difficulty chewing due to the loss of all maxillary teeth and some mandibular teeth. The patient had no history of systemic disease. The patient had used a denture before but it was broken and loose so he wanted a new denture. It was concluded that hybrid prosthesis was the treatment of choice because it has better retention and stability and offers an aesthetic solution to patients who are not satisfied with the appearance of a clamer denture.

Abstract

Temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ-OA) is caused by disc dislocation, trauma, functional overload, and developmental abnormalities. One of the effectively used TMJ-OA treatments is dental stem cell secretome (DSECR); it has shown promising po-tential in cartilage regeneration. This review analyses DSECR as having the potential to halt or suppress the progression of TMJ-OA. It was concluded that treatment using DSECR promoted regeneration and repair of chemically induced TMJ-OA, indicating that DSECR has great potential to be a cell-free therapeutic approach.

Abstract

Dentures are expected to restore masticatory function, which is an indicator of the functional complex of mastication influenced by elevator muscle activation from craniomandibular biomechanics. The level of bite force is important to determine the effec-tiveness of mastication in denture-using patients. This study evaluated the differences in maximal bite force values and mastica-cation ability in metal and acrylic partial denture patients. Subjects were RPD users; 12 metal frame patients and 12 acrylic pa-tients. The bite force values the patients were measured using a byte gauge. Mastication ability was assessed using a mastica-cation ability questionnaire. The age groups of 46-55 years and 56-65 years used the RPD the most. The mean maximal bite force of metal-frame RPD patients was 260.92 N and 90.67 N in acrylic. All of the metal frame users had good mastication ability and only 5% of acrylic RPD users had good ability. Only 66.7% of metal frame RPD patients had a high quality of life and 8.3% of acrylic. It was concluded that the maximal bite force value of metal frame RPD patients was greater than acrylic.

Abstract

Ossifying fibroma (OF) is a slow-growing benign tumour derived from undifferentiated cells of the periodontal ligament. The seg-mental resection surgical procedure involving the maxilla in tumour removal surgery causes oronasal defects in breathing, swal-lowing and phonetics, in addition to the patient's psychological state. Rehabilitation of the defect using an obturator prosthesis allows the patient to regain the affected functions. An obturator prosthesis is a plate that closes an intraoral defect and can be clas-sified into surgical, interim and definitive obturators. This article reported the prosthetic rehabilitation of a post-hemaxillectomy defect in an OF patient in stages. A 19-year-old female was referred to the Prosthodontics Clinic of the Oral Surgery Clinic for the fabrication of a surgical obturator that was placed immediately post-hemaxillectomy. After three months, the patient was rehabilita-ted with an interim obturator. Final rehabilitation was done seven months later with a definitive metal-framed obturator to restore chewing, breathing, phonetic and aesthetic functions which resulted in improved quality of life for the patient post-hemaxillectomy.

Abstract

Immediate overdenture is a treatment option to maintain alveolar ridge integrity. Root remnants under the immediate overden-ture denture base will reduce the risk of further resorption of the alveolar ridge, maintain aesthetics and improve retention and stability. One type of immediate overdenture denture is overdenture with bare root attachment. This article describes the success-ful immediate full upper overdenture and lower partial overdenture with bare root attachment. Clinically, there was extensive tooth loss and root residue in some teeth. Severe alveolar resorption in upper jaw. Extractions were performed on the remaining roots of 23,24,25,34,45 and extraction of 18 after the denture was made. Root canal treatment on teeth 21 and 22, and decaputation of teeth after denture was ready; they were used as bare root attachment for immediate full upper overdenture while teeth 35 and 44 as bare root attachment for partial lower overdenture. It was concluded that immediate full upper overdenture and par-tial lower overdenture with bare root attachments can maintain aesthetics and improve denture retention and stabilisation.
