Abstract

Bilateral cleft lip is occured on both sides of the premaxilla either complete or incomplete so that in this situation there is no nor-mal side for comparison. Cleft lip and palate deformities are generally congenital abnormalities that require comprehensive ma-nagement. Barsky's technique is rarely used, but it is important to know the results in cases of BCC komplit. In this case review, a 16-month-old boy with a diagnosis of bilateral complete labiognatopalatoschizis underwent labioplasty with the Barsky tech-nique on his CL. Labioplasty was performed under general anaesthesia at the Unhas Teaching Dental Hospital. The Barsky tech-nique is a development of the Veau II technique, indicated in cases of CL with protrusive premaxilla and short prolabiun. It was concluded that CL can be treated with Barsky technique labioplasty.

Abstract

A maxillofacial prosthesis (MFP) was inserted to replace the hard and soft tissues and teeth lost after maxillectomy surgery in a case of ameloblastoma. Facial deformity, soft tissue invasion and limited mouth opening caused difficulties in the moulding pro-cess. This article presents anatomical moulding modifications to improve treatment success in MFP placement. A 19-year-old female came to RSGM USU referred from RSU Murni Teguh for immediate post-surgical placement of a maxillary closure device. The patient was diagnosed as ameloblastoma with facial deformity, and tissue invasion on the left side. The patient's facial con-dition was asymmetrical and difficult to open the mouth, making impression difficult. Anatomical impression was performed with modification and selection of appropriate stock tray, followed by fabrication of surgical obturator MFP and Class IV Aramany in-terim as prosthetic rehabilitation device. It was concluded that MFP insertion in post-maxillectomy patients with impression dif-ficulties, modification of the stock tray moulding spoon can determine the success of treatment.

Abstract

In periodontitis cases with stage III/IV there will be mobility in the patient's dentition. The best option for replacing missing teeth is implants, especially immediate implants. The periodontitis condition requires further follow-up to achieve primary and secondary stability and improve the prognosis of the implant. The review was conducted using Google Scholar, Science Direct and Pubmed to find relevant articles for inclusion, then synthesised using the PRISMA guideline. 105 articles were found in the initial search and 3 articles were synthesised. Immediate implant placement can be performed in patients with stage III/IV periodontitis but ad-ditional care and follow-up is required compared to patients without periodontitis. It was concluded that immediate implants can be placed in patients with stage III/IV periodontitis if the periodontitis condition has been resolved and an evaluation of the ridge to be placed, as well as more intensive maintenance of oral hygiene.

Abstract

Several studies have been conducted on the use of autologous stem cells derived from the patient's own body as a therapeutic agent to increase the speed of healing and regeneration of periodontal defects due to periodontitis, including in patients with sys-temic diseases such as diabetes mellitus (DM). This literature review discusses the application and clinical effectiveness of auto-logous stem cells as regeneration therapy in DM patients with periodontal defects, the long-term effects and advantages and disadvantages of this regeneration therapy. This literature search is based on electronic data such as Pubmed, Wiley, Google Schoolar using several keywords. Periodontal ligament stem cells are adult stem cells that can be applied directly to repair perio-dontal defects. Direct local injection of stem cells may be an effective approach for periodontal regeneration in patients with DM. It is concluded that stem cells have the potential to be used in tissue regeneration and engineering. Some of the main advanta-ges of stem cells are their high differentiation ability and proliferation rate, relatively simple extraction and culture for use in auto-logous cell therapy in DM patients with periodontal defects.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus can affect the success rate of periodontal tissue treatment. The condition of DM in each individual is multifacto-torial. This literature review discusses the theoretical basis of the discussion of articles on the success rate of periodontal treat-ment in patients with DM by collecting and comparing several articles that discuss the success rate of periodontal treatment in patients with a history of DM. Several articles were found which showed that the success rate of periodontal treatment in pa-tients with a history of DM is influenced by many factors. It was concluded that the success of periodontal treatment in patients with a history of DM is influenced by the patient's glucose levels, bad habits, nutrition, socioeconomic status, and lifestyle.

Abstract

In the field of restorative dentistry, dental implants are very popular. There are two options for implant permanent crown restora-tion, screwed or cemented. Bone loss around the implant that occurs after one year of prostheses placement is one of the indica-tors for assessing treatment success. This article examines the marginal bone loss rates of both types of implant-supported pros-theses by collecting several internet-based literatures using the keywords marginal bone loss of implant screwed and implant ce-mented. The rate of bone loss is one of the assessments of the success of edentulous treatment using implants. There are seve-ral factors that impact bone loss around the implant. In screw implant prostheses marginal bone loss can be greater due to greater non-axial transfer of occlusal load and can be exacerbated if the implant is placed in an area that received a bone graft. It was concluded that greater marginal bone loss occurs with screw implant prostheses, but in terms of strength, screw implant pros-theses are better than cementation implant prostheses.

Abstract

Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammation that can affect the supporting tissues of the teeth. One of the risk factors that ag-gravate periodontal disease is diabetes mellitus (DM). This article examines the effect of glycaemic control in patients with DM on the severity of periodontal disease. Literature search was conducted using various electronic databases (Pubmed, google scholar and google scholar), with the keywords glycemic control AND periodontal disease; periodontal disease AND diabetes mellitus, insulin, complication of diabetes mellitus. Literature published in the last 5 years in Indonesian and English. Several studies sug-gest that DM is a risk factor for periodontal disease and there is a reciprocal relationship between DM disease and periodontal disease severity. It was concluded that patients with uncontrolled glycaemic can aggravate periodontal disease. DM control by performing periodontal treatment can prevent the severity of periodontal disease and DM disease.

Abstract

To describe the effectiveness of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as host modulation on the healing of periodon-titis based on existing literature. The literature search was conducted independently, including articles in PubMed with full text and written in English using the keywords periodontal disease AND periodontitis AND host modulation AND nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs OR NSAIDs. As a result, periodontitis is no longer defined as a disease caused by bacteria alone, but is now seen as an uncontrolled disease related to the immune response caused by dysbiosis. NSAIDs are one of the host mo-dulation agents that have been investigated for their effectiveness in healing periodontal disease. Some articles support that the combination of NSAIDs and scaling root planing (SRP) can treat periodontitis, but there is some literature that states that this is not the case when compared to conventional treatments. It was concluded that NSAIDs are effective as host modulation for periodontitis healing significantly on clinical parameter measurements such as plaque index reduction, probing depth, bleeding on probing, gingival index, and clinical attachment level improvement compared to SRP combined with placebo.
