Abstract

The treatment for total edentulus conditions is a complete denture. Patients with flat ridge conditions are associated with difficulty achieving an adequate CD. This case report aims to report CD treatment using a semi-adjustable arti-culator. A 65-year-old male presented to Halimah Dental Centre with complaints of difficulty chewing food due to the loss of all his teeth, and a flat ridge condition in the mandible. In the case of flat ridge on the mandible, preliminary moulding using compound material and case work using a semi-adjustable articulator was performed. It was con-cluded that the use of semi-adjustable articulators in CD fabrication could restore stomatognathic function referring to the patient's condition.

Abstract

Socket preservation is a procedure in the tooth socket by inserting graft material so as to reduce bone and soft tissue loss after tooth extraction. Gold sea cucumber (S.hermanii) extract has been widely studied because it contains many bioactive compo-nents that can accelerate the post-extraction ossification process. Gold sea cucumber extract was made into gel preparations with concentrations of 0.8%, 1.6%, and 3.2%. The experimental animals were randomly divided into 4 groups. Immunohistoche-mical observation to see the increase in RANK-L expression after gel administration on day 14 after tooth extraction of guinea pigs. The mean levels of osteoclasts and RANKL were highest in the control group and lowest in the 3.2% group. The results of the one-way Anova test showed that there were significant differences between the four treatment groups (p<0.05). It was con-cluded that the administration of golden sea cucumber gel extract had an effect on the bone socket formation process. The most effective concentration of 3.2% was used in the process of socket bone formation.

Abstract

Surgical treatment of radicular cysts such as enucleation, marsupialisation or decompression in large lesions. This article discus-ses the management of radicular cysts. Firstly, a 38-year-old man complained of an enlargement of the gingiva to the buccal ves-tibule of the 13-17 tooth region that had been felt for 1.5 years, with a size of ±5x3x5 cm, hard consistency, crepitation, no palpa-tion pain. Secondly, a 54-year-old female complained of enlargement of the buccal vestibule of teeth 13-21 that had been felt for 3 months with a size of ±2.5x1.5x1 cm, hard consistency, crepitation, no palpation pain. Panoramic radiographs and CBCT of both cases showed suspected aggressive lesions extending from the alveolar bone of the teeth. Both were treated with cyst enuclea-tion and multiple extractions under general anaesthesia; histopathological examination resulted in radicular cysts. It was concluded that it is very important for dentists to determine the appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan, based on the extent of the cystic lesion as seen from the radiographic examination to obtain information on the extent of bone, tooth and soft tissue affected.

Abstract

Global developmental delay (GDD) is a developmental disability involving two or more developmental domains, namely gross/ fine motor, speech/language, cognition, social/personal and daily activities. This article discusses dental care and dental beha-viour management in a 4-year-old boy with GDD. The condition of the child's oral cavity needs comprehensive treatment be-cause the damage affects all existing teeth, disrupting eating patterns and affecting the child's nutritional intake. Multiple tooth extractions and multiple dental restorations under general anaesthesia were performed. The post-extraction wound has closed well and all dental caries have been restored, so the child's food intake has increased. It was concluded that successful dental treatment in children with GDD is influenced by patient co-operation and overall medical condition. It is important for parents to take proactive steps to ensure that children receive the necessary dental care.

Abstract

Cleft lip and palate (CLP) is a common congenital defect of the craniofacial region. Presurgical nasoalveolar moulding (PNAM), which reshapes the alveolar and nasal segments before surgical repair, is an orthopaedic plate that can passively reposition the alveolar segment and nasal cartilage before surgical repair. PNAM with nasal stent has the advantages of correcting immature nasal cartilages and maintaining a normal position. This article describes the stages and results of pre-surgical treatment of an infant with PNAM with a single nasal stent of a complete unilateral CLP infant sinistra. A 7-day-old male infant with unilateral complete labiognatopalatoschizis sinistra was treated using a PNAM nasal stent design to form nasal cartilage. The premaxilla-ry position was corrected by making periodic adjustments to the anatomical surface of the PNAM. The gap was narrowed so that the premaxillary position was improved, and the nasal morphology was more symmetrical between the cleft and non-cleft sides. It is concluded that pre-surgical treatment with PNAM creation with a single nasal stent in complete unilateral CLP infants can correct the premaxillary position and narrow the gap before labioplasty.

Abstract

Rehabilitation of patients with eyeball loss requires an eye prosthesis. Currently, a variation of the non-fabricated eye prosthe-sis, the light-weight prosthesis, has been developed. This article describes the technique of making a light-weight eye prosthe-thesis for a patient who lost his right eyeball due to trauma. A 28-year-old man came to Hasannudin University Dental and Oral Hospital complaining of losing his right eye due to trauma from a work accident. The patient was fitted with an eye prosthesis and used up to 9 months post-operatively. The patient felt uncomfortable because his prosthetic eye looked unnatural and looked smaller. The patient wanted a new prosthesis that was more comfortable to restore his confidence. The conjunctiva of the orbita was healthy and there was no infection. The patient was fitted with a non-fabricated light-weight eye prosthesis made from acry-lic resin. The artificial eye was fabricated with a precise impression method which gave an advantage in terms of retention. It was concluded that a light-weight eye prosthesis can be selected as a rehabilitative treatment for patients with eyeball loss that res-tores the patient's appearance and improves self-confidence.

Abstract

Root canal treatment has become a routine procedure in daily dental practice. Successful RCT is characterised by the absence of clinical signs and symptoms and without abnormalities in periodontal tissues on radiographic evaluation. The RCT procedure is also a success factor in endodontic treatment, including the choice of treatment plan whether one-visit endodontic or multi-vi-sit endodontic which is still controversial. This literature review compares OVE and MVE which have been controversial treat-ment options in recent years both based on treatment success rates, advantages and disadvantages of each procedure as well as factors that influence the success of both treatments. It was concluded that RCT, OVE and MVE have no significant difference in their success rates.

Abstract

Tooth loss and the use of ill-fitting dentures can cause alveolar bone resorption especially in the mandible. This condition compli-cates the fabrication of a removable denture. Suction denture (SD) is an alternative to improve retention and stable support so that the denture can be used for chewing and swallowing. This article discusses the management of flat ridge condition using SD. A 70-year-old woman came to RSGM Hasanuddin University Makassar complaining of difficulty chewing due to the loss of all her teeth. The treatment chosen was SD with neutral zone impression on the lower jaw. It was concluded that SD can cli-nically improve retention and satisfaction, especially in patients with large alveolar bone resorption.

Abstract

Dental implants are now a common treatment with high survival rates and patient satisfaction. Complications of peri-implantitis are inflammation of the peri-implant tissue resulting in bone loss around the implant. Artificial Intelligence (AI), has shown re-markable success in detecting peri-implant bone loss through radiographic images. This article evaluates and analyses the use of AI deep learning in detecting peri-implant bone loss. An article search was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and Cochrane published in 2019-2024. 128 articles were obtained, but 5 articles were included in the study. It was con-cluded that the application of AI deep learning has the potential to detect bone loss around dental implant tissues. Although AI models can provide good predictions, they should be seen as a support rather than a substitute in clinical decision-making.

Abstract

Fibromatous epulis is often found in the oral cavity especially on the gingival margin, cheeks and tongue. The aetiology general-ly stems from chronic irritation. This article discusses a series of treatment stages and management of biopsy excision and odon-tectomy of tooth 13, prognosis of treatment of EF with suppurative chronic inflammation. A 23-year-old female came to the de-partment of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of RSGMP Hasanuddin University with complaints of a lump on the right maxillary gum since ±8 months ago. The patient had a history of gum lump surgery with the same location ±1 year ago. Intra oral exami-nation: gingival lump of teeth 11-12 with size ±1.6x1.5x0.5 cm with spongy consistency, and pedunculated, media caries of teeth 11, 21, post-endodontic composite filling of tooth 12. OPG and thoracic radiographic examination were performed. In this case, biopsy excision and odontectomy of tooth 13 under general anaesthesia were performed and histopathological examination was performed. It was concluded that biopsy excision and odontectomy of tooth 13 aimed to remove the epulis and prevent recurrence of EF.
