Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms and usage of terms of address within family interactions in the North Aceh community, as well as to identify the factors influencing their use. The research was conducted in Gampong Meunasah Meucat and several surrounding villages in North Aceh Regency. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The data were obtained from direct utterances of native speakers of the Acehnese language who understand and use kinship-based address systems in daily interactions. The findings reveal that the family address system in the North Aceh community can be categorized into two types, namely those based on lineage and marital relationships. Based on lineage, 31 forms of address were identified, such as Ama, Ayah, and Apak to refer to biological fathers. Based on marital relationships, 18 forms of address were identified, such as Temude and Abang to address the husband of an older sister. The use of these address terms is influenced by social and situational factors, including age, social status, level of familiarity, and cultural or regional background. This study concludes that the family address system in the North Aceh community is highly rich and complex, reflecting values of respect and kinship that are strongly upheld within the community. To preserve this linguistic tradition, awareness among younger generations is essential, along with support from the government and educational institutions through the integration of language-related materials into the curriculum and cultural preservation programs.

Abstract

The proliferation of social media, particularly YouTube, has reshaped the landscape of Islamic dakwah (preaching), notably among the young Muslim generation immersed in the digital ecosystem. Felix Siauw has emerged as a prominent preacher with considerable influence in this online sphere, distinguished by his argumentative, logical, and contextually relevant communication style. This study aims to examine the cultivation effects of Felix Siauw’s dakwah content on YouTube on the formation of religious perceptions and identity among young Muslims. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach anchored in George Gerbner’s cultivation theory, data were collected through in-depth interviews with five informants aged 18-30 years, observation of Felix Siauw’s YouTube content, and the gathering of digital documentation. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, reinforced by source and method triangulation to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the findings. The results reveal that repeated exposure to Felix Siauw’s dakwah materials cultivates ideological awareness and critical perspectives on social issues, while simultaneously strengthening the Islamic identity of young Muslims. This cultivation process facilitates a transformation in the understanding of religion, shifting it from mere ritual observance toward the conceptualization of Islam as a comprehensive value system and way of life. These findings affirm the applicability of cultivation theory within the realm of digital dakwah and underscore the imperative of media literacy for the younger generation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between social media use, identity formation, and students’ mental health. The research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method involving 18 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed descriptively and inferentially using Microsoft Excel and SPSS. The findings indicate that most respondents perceive social media as playing a role in the process of identity formation and influencing their psychological condition. However, statistical analysis revealed that the relationship between social media use and the variables studied was weak and not statistically significant (R = 0.167; p > 0.05). These findings suggest that social media use is not a dominant factor in determining students’ identity formation or mental health. Other factors, such as family environment, social interactions, and individual conditions, are also likely to contribute to these aspects. This study provides a preliminary understanding of the complexity of the relationship between social media use and adolescents’ psychological development in the digital era.

Abstract

The Tukad Unda River in Klungkung Regency, Bali, plays a vital role in irrigation systems and local food security. However, land-use changes and increased rainfall intensity due to climate change and extreme weather events have heightened flood risks, potentially disrupting agricultural productivity and community accessibility. This study aims to develop a spatial flood vulnerability map of the Tukad Unda watershed using the 2D HEC-RAS hydrodynamic model integrated with Geographic Information System (GIS) data. Simulations were conducted for scenarios of extreme rainfall and land-use change, producing outputs such as water level, surface elevation, flow velocity, affected areas, and inundation distribution, validated through field data. The hydrological analysis shows that the design flood discharges for 50-year (Q50) and 100-year (Q100) return periods are 82.32 m³/s and 83.44 m³/s, respectively. Land use is dominated by mixed dryland agriculture with shrubs (39%), rice fields (20%), and dryland farming (14%). Based on HEC-RAS simulations, the difference in water depth and surface elevation between Q50 and Q100 conditions is relatively small (0.1–0.9 m), indicating that the hydraulic system of Tukad Unda remains stable but is approaching its maximum capacity. Therefore, flood mitigation strategies should focus on upstream conservation to control source discharge, optimizing river capacity in the middle segment to reduce inundation, and strengthening downstream protection systems to address the combined effects of river discharge and tidal influence.
