Abstract

Indonesia has 14,905,575 ha of peatlands spread across Sumatra (43.18%), Kalimantan (32.06%) and Papua (24.76%) (Balai Besar Sumberdaya Lahan Pertanian, 2011). The area of peatland in Central Kalimantan reaches 2.65 million ha or 16.83% of the total area of Central Kalimantan (Balai Besar Litbang Sumberdaya Lahan Pertanian, 2013). Land and forest fires are becoming increasingly severe not only in Central Kalimantan, but also in other regions. This is triggered by activities where peatlands are used for agriculture or plantations coupled with the construction of drainage canals, causing peat water to dry out and become flammable during the dry season. In 1997, catastrophic fires destroyed no less than 2.2 million hectares of peat swamp forest, and destroyed 0.14 - 0.17 Gt of peatland carbon. In addition, it also caused several health problems, for example in Central Kalimantan, during the fires in 2015 there was data on cases of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in Central Kalimantan until the fourth week of September 2015, the number of sufferers reached 20,274 people (KMNLHRI and UNDP; 2015). These forest fires also cause great losses in the socio-economic field. This service aims to prevent drought in peatlands by measuring the water level at several points in Tumbang Tahai Village by measuring the water level so that an Early Warning System for peatland drought is formed in the village. It is hoped that the community of Tumbang Tahai Village in particular and the people of Central Kalimantan in general will be able to prevent peatland drought and this can be an initial experience in the practical experience of making, installing and using a water level measuring instrument.

Abstract

Littering behaviour directly into the river is still carried out by the majority of people in the Mendawai and Flamboyant Bawah areas along the Kahayan river in Palangka Raya city. Since shaping positive behavior about waste management is crutial, research on aspects or variables that influence people's intention to support household waste management activities was conducted. This quantitative research aim to determine the variables that influence the community in supporting household waste management. A questionnaire was designed and distributed in order to gain primary data. To collect the secondary data, study literature about household management was conducted. Descriptive statistic was proposed to understanding the demographic respondent’s characteristics. Structural Equation Model-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) was proposed to analyze the relationship between the research variable’s. By applying Descriptive Statistic, it was found that the respondent dominated by women as a housewife and age more than 35 years old. Furthermore, through Structural Equation Model-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) method it was found that institutional and regulatory (X4) and information aspects (X5) are variables that positively and significantly affect community support for waste management in Mendawai and Flamboyan Bawah settlements located on the Kahayan river in Palangka Raya City. Abstract

This study aims to present a preliminary planning of a mining road in Ampah District, East Barito Regency, Central Kalimantan, based on topographic survey data obtained using a Total Station. The survey was conducted along a ±10.971-meter alignment traversing an area characterized by undulating to hilly terrain. The Total Station was used to accurately acquire positional and elevation data along the alignment, which was then utilized to develop the longitudinal profile and cross-sections as the basis for the geometric road design. The survey results revealed natural ground elevation variations ranging from approximately ±15 meters to ±109 meters, with significant elevation adjustments required in several segments. The longitudinal profile indicated that most of the alignment would require fill operations, particularly at STA 3+258, 3+903, and 10+775, where fill depths exceeded 6 meters. Conversely, cut areas were also identified in the initial segments of the alignment, as shown by green indicators on the profile drawings. The horizontal geometric design involved 24 curves, incorporating geometric control points such as PC (Point of Curvature), PT (Point of Tangent), and PI (Point of Intersection), as well as spiral curves to ensure smooth directional transitions. Meanwhile, drainage systems and slope stabilization measures were addressed through technical cross-sectional designs at several critical points. Overall, the use of the Total Station in this study has proven effective in producing high-quality survey data that serves as an accurate foundation for the initial planning of the mining road. These findings support the development of an efficient alignment design, well-suited to the terrain conditions and operational requirements of mining activities.

Abstract

This community service initiative was implemented to enhance public understanding and awareness of the importance of safe, healthy, and habitable housing. A house is a fundamental human need that functions not only as a place of shelter but also as a space that shapes family character, health, and overall well-being. Observations conducted in Langkai Subdistrict, Pahandut District, Palangka Raya City, revealed that several residential units still do not meet the criteria for healthy housing, including inadequate ventilation, limited natural lighting, substandard sanitation, and the use of building materials that may pose health risks. Through outreach activities grounded in the Transformative Learning Theory, residents were actively engaged in the learning process via educational sessions, group discussions, field simulations, and direct mentoring. The results indicate a 30% increase in community knowledge regarding the concept of safe and healthy housing. Additionally, positive behavioural changes were observed, such as improved environmental cleanliness, enhanced ventilation, and better household waste management. The community also established a self-help group focused on sustainably maintaining environmental hygiene and safety. Overall, this initiative proved effective in raising public awareness and fostering community self-reliance in creating healthier and safer residential environments.

Abstract

Geographically, Petuk Liti Village is located within Pulang Pisau Regency and within the Kahayan Tengah District. This village also serves as a transportation hub between regencies, including Gunung Mas Regency, South Barito Regency, North Barito Regency, and Kapuas Regency. In agriculture, plantations, and fisheries, the residents of Petuk Liti Village primarily cultivate rubber, oil palm, and rattan trees. Manual spraying is still often carried out using conventional tools such as knapsack sprayers, which are manually operated or powered by fossil fuel engines. Besides being tiring, using these tools is inefficient in terms of time and energy, and contributes to carbon emissions that worsen environmental conditions (Putri & Santoso, 2020). With the increasing need for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technology, an innovative solution is needed, namely the implementation of solar panel-based electric sprayers. Through an educational and applied approach, this community service is expected to improve farmers' skills and awareness of the importance of transitioning to green energy in daily agricultural production activities. The targeted outputs of this community service are the manufacture of electric sprayers and the publication of articles in SINTA-accredited journals and HKI.
