Abstract

This study will compare two different opinions toward military power between Sakuraba Kouta and Kumon Kaito in the Japanese Television series Kamen Rider Gaim. The two opinions represent two arguments that exist among Japanese society toward the existence of military power. The research uses a qualitative method as the approach of study. We compare the dialogue between the two characters and analyze it using the semiotic theory. The results show that there is two different ideas about military power represented by the ideology brought by Sakuraba Kouta and Kumon Kaito. Sakuraba Kouta represent the ideology of people against the military power while Kumon Kaito represent the ideology of people supporting the military power.

Abstract

This research focuses on the structure and meaning of the sentence of Osaka Dialect and the standard Japanese itself. Osaka dialect is the most widely recognized on of Japanese dialect. An understanding or application of the Osaka dialect can be considered important so that when tourists, or who want to work or study in Osaka can understand the different structures and meanings that exist in standard Japanese and Osaka dialect, so as to avoid misunderstanding or miscommunication that is might happen. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis, which describes the structure and meaning on Osaka Dialects sentence. The data that were used in this research was obtained from a Japanese movie named 8UPPERS. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that Osaka Dialect tends to shorten and obliterate the sound from the verb of standard Japanese. For example, the sound in standard Japaneses word chigau shortens into chau in Osaka Dialect, meaning œwrong, œdifferent, and œisnt that right?. There were also changes on standard Japaneses sentence ending word such as ~nda and ~nanda, that turns into ~nen and ~yanen. Changes can also be seen on standard Japaneses past form of sentence ending word, ~tanda or ~ta to ~ten in Osaka Dialect. The ~naide form changes to ~ntoite in Osaka Dialect. The sound in present form of sentence ending word such as ~teiru also change to ~toru. There were also differences between the ~n and ~hen form that equals to ~nai form and the n form which came from ru. Change of sound can also be found on the ~shimatta form, which turns into ~shimota in Osaka Dialect.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the correlation between students metacognitive strategies and their writing quality in an online learning context. It involved 35 English-major students at one of the state universities in East Java, Indonesia. A metacognitive strategies questionnaire and a writing rubric were used as the instruments of this study. Then, the data obtained were analyzed by using a descriptive statistic and a Spearman rho correlation analysis with SPSS 21 program. The results reported that the participants applied metacognitive strategies at high frequency. Among the three kinds of metacognitive strategies, evaluating strategies (M=4.17) are the most strategy used by students, followed by monitoring strategies (M=3.98) and planning strategies (M=3.92) sequentially. The overall mean of the students essay scores (M=76.10) reported that the students writing quality was a good level. The highest to the lowest quality was obtained by the organization aspect, mechanics, language use, vocabulary, and content respectively. Further, there was a moderate positive correlation between students metacognitive strategies and their writing quality in online learning. In sum up, the more students apply metacognitive strategies, the better writing quality they have. It is suggested to  conduct with larger participants to make the results more generalizable.

Abstract

In Indonesia, one of the common problems encountered by many English teachers during the process of teaching and learning in the classroom is students unwillingness to communicate using English. Having learners who are willing to communicate using English in class is essential in a language classroom that following the communicative approach (Riasati, 2012). This study aims to investigate students perceptions towards willingness to communicate using English in the classroom. It employs a quantitative approach, survey research design. To know the students willingness to communicate using English, a well-known FLCAS (Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale) developed by Horwitz, E.K., Horwitz, and M. B., Cope J. (1986) was adapted. 115 students of SMK Negeri 10 Malang participated as the respondents. Based on the findings, it is concluded that tenth and eleventh grade students at SMK Negeri 10 Malang have a positive opinion towards willingness to communicate using English in the classroom. They stated that learning and communicating using English is essential and beneficial. However, their willingness to communicate using English itself is quite low and it is quite a serious problem.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the associative meaning that is formed from the culinary name in Surabaya and to describe the hegemonic nuances inherent in it. This type of research is descriptive qualitative, the data source is the Surabaya urban community and the data is in the form of culinary names that were created. Researchers use a data analyzing corpus. The naming of urban culinary is full of associative meanings that have different connotations from culinary names in the past, representing the psychic condition of the community because naming is a medium of language which is a reflection of the brain and soul of the wearer, the nuances of capital hegemony around class differences, exploitation and oppression. reflected in the names of foods consumed by the urban community in Surabaya in particular. A hegemonic society has not yet reached the point of becoming a survivor, still lamenting the fate and associative baper through the culinary names it created. Efforts to build the community's mentality so as not to continue to feel like a hegomonic victim can be started with the creation of optimistic culinary phrases or terms.

Abstract

Dalam masyarakat bilingual, lazim terjadi fenomena kebahasaan berupa interferensi dan integrasi. Kedua fenomena kebahasaan ini muncul karena terjadinya kontak dua bahasa yakni bahasa pertama dan bahasa kedua. Saling kontak tersebut bisa berdampak merugikan atau menguntungkan. Jika kontak bahasa terjadi dan unsur bahasa pertama atau kedua yang digunakan oleh penutur bahasa bilingual ternyata berbeda, hal ini disebut sebagai interferensi dan mengakibatkan kesalahan berbahasa. Sebaliknya, jika kontak bahasa yang terjadi dan itu berarti terjadi peristiwa peminjaman atau penyerapan unsur-usur bahasa pertama ke bahasa kedua atau sebaliknya dan ternyata berdampak positif, yaitu memerkaya bahasa pertama atau kedua, fenomena ini disebut sebagai integrasi. Keduanya merupakan salah satu bahasan dalam kajian sosiolinguistik.Tujuan tulisan ini adalah membahas interferensi dan intergrasi bahasa pertama dan bahasa kedua dalam kajian sosiolinguistik.

Abstract

Artikel ini mendeskripsikan deiksis waktu dan deiksis ruang dalam Transkripte der Hörtexte buku ajar Netzwerk B1. Dalam belajar Bahasa Jerman, khususnya pada bagian menyimak atau Hörverstehen perlu adanya pemahaman tuturan oleh penutur maupun mitra tutur. Peneliti menganalisis leksem waktu dan leksem ruang yang termasuk deiksis maupun nondeiksis. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori Levinson dengan metode penelitian bahasa. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan dalam transkrip bagian Hörverstehen buku ajar Netzwerk B1 terdapat 136 leksem waktu yang merupakan deiksis waktu yang terdiri dari 6 macam deiksis waktu dan 1 macam leksem waktu sebagai non-deiktis. Leksem waktu berdasarkan perhitungan kalender termasuk bersifat deiktis jika digabungkan dengan pengubah deiktis. Sedangkan untuk deiksis ruang ditemukan 148 leksem. Dari leksem ruang yang ditemukan hanya terdapat 5 macam deiksis ruang. Leksem ruang berdasarkan arah dapat termasuk bersifat deiktis maupun non-deiktis.

Abstract

Changes in the learning system have caused problems, one of which is the implementation of internships, which are usually carried out offline, now must be carried out online because the Covid-19 pandemic has not yet ended. The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation, obstacles and efforts made in online internship learning at SD Sidomulyo 04.This research method is descriptive qualitative by using survey method. This research was carried out at SD Sidomulyo 04, carried out in August 2021. The data to be obtained from this research were in the form of data on implementation, obstacles that arise and efforts to solve problems for interns at SD Sidomulyo 04. The primary data sources are informants who play a role in research. these are student interns, tutor teachers, principals, and students. In addition, secondary data sources are obtained from documents, and screenshots of the implementation of learning while online. Data collection techniques in this study using interview techniques, documentation and questionnaires. Meanwhile, the data analysis process in this study includes three things, including: 1) data reduction, 2) data presentation, 3) drawing conclusions or verification. The results of the research and discussion of this study explain the implementation of learning during the COVID-19 pandemic which is carried out based on regulations set by the government. The change in the learning system from offline to online learning also has an impact on the emergence of various problems. Problems are obstacles in implementing internships in online learning for PGSD students. The obstacles found were from students, teachers and apprentices. Furthermore, these obstacles are sought solutions as an effort to overcome existing problems or obstacles. Abstract

Analisis Wacana Kritis Model Van Dijk pada Pemberitaan Kompas.com berjudul “Profil Usmar Ismail, Bapak Perfilman yang Akan Dianugerahi Gelar Pahlawan Oleh Jokowi” berisi tentang karakteristik dan pendekatan model Van Dijk yang menggambarkan tiga aspek yaitu struktur makro, superstruktur dan struktur mikro. Beberapa hal yang penting yaitu 1. Analisis Wacana Kritis menggambarkan Struktur makro menggambarkan secara umum tentang tema “Pahlawan” pada masing-masing topik berita, dan didalamnya tedapat point-point penting yang merujuk kembali pada tema besarnya. 2. Superstruktur wacana kritis, peneliti menginterpretasikan tema atau topik yang dikedepankan oleh media dan skema atau urutan berita yang ditampilkan di dalam teks berita tersebut. Pada wacana berita Profil Usmar Ismail, Bapak Perfilman yang Akan Dianugerahi Gelar Pahlawan Oleh Jokowi , posisi tema atau topik pada umumnya terletak di bagian judul berita. Sedangkan bagian isi dan penutup media menyampaikan penganugerahan gelar pahlawan untuk Usmar Ismail. 3. Struktur mikro wacana kritis pada berita Kompas.com, 28 Oktober 2021, pada umumnya mereprentasikan keterlibatan beberapa elemen wacana, yakni aspek semantik (latar, praanggapan, detil dan maksud), aspek sintaksis (bentuk kalimat aktif dan pasif, kata ganti koherensdan nominalisasi) aspek stilistik (leksikon) sedangkan aspek retoris (grafis, metafora dan ekspresi). Sehingga berita yang diperoleh dari kompas.com dari ketiga struktur wacana model Van Dijk yaitu struktur makro, superstruktur dan micro berserta elemennya berkenaan dengan “Profil Usmar Ismail, Bapak Perfilman yang Akan Dianugerahi Gelar Pahlawan Oleh Jokowi” tema tersebut pantas untuk diangkat sebagai berita utama,tetapi ketika keseluruhan wacana dianalisis secara kritis maka dialek pada berita tersebut berhubungan dengan situasi, institusi dan struktur sosial yang membentuknya yang digunakan untuk mendukung profil seorang pahlawan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Sedangkan objek penelitian ini adalah Sosok Usmar Ismail yang layak dan pantas diberi anugerah sebagai Pahlawan. Data primer penelitian ini adalah berita dari kompas.com. (28/10/2021, 17:12 WIB) sedangkan data sekunder penelitian ini antara lain buku, jurnal, makalah, media online sebagai tambahan data serta pendukung analisis dalam penelitiannya. Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini adalah dengan cara, memilih, memilah dan menginterpretasi. Penelitian ini dimulai dengan mengidentifikasi seorang tokoh, mengklarifikasi data dari tokoh tersebut sesuai dengan tiga aspek (superstruktur, struktur mikro dan struktur Makro) sesuai dengan kajian struktur Van Djik. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kajian struktur Van Djik dalam penelitian ini cukup lengkap. Superstruktur yang digunakan pada berita “Profil Usmar Ismail, Bapak Perfilman yang Akan Dianugerahi Gelar Pahlawan Oleh Jokowi” antara lain headline, sub headline, body copy, signatureline dan base line. Struktur mikro yang terdiri dari unsur verbal dan nonverbal. Struktur makro yang terdiri atas sosok pahlawan dan kiprahnya. Struktur wacana yang lengkap memudahkan pembaca untuk mengenali siapa sebenarnya sosok pahlawan tersebut. Sosok Usmar Ismail selama ini dikenal sebagai Bapak Perfilman Nasional. Sineas kelahiran Bukittinggi, 20 Maret 1921 ini menjadi salah satu tokoh penting bagi perfilman Indonesia Kata kunci : Kajian Struktur Van Djik, Pahlawan

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate correlation between students' speaking skills and self-directed learning in a virtual English community. This quantitative research involved 20 students who joined the speaking community at a public university in Surabaya. It used speaking rubric and a questionnaire as instrument data and was then analyzed by using SPSS 26.0 for Windows. The result of this study was the students included moderate self-directed learning users. The highest mean score was self-management (M=3.79) and followed by self-motivation (M=3.64) and self-monitoring (M=3.34). In terms of speaking skills, the students were good speakers in every speaking aspect. Sequentially, the best speaking aspect mastered was vocabulary and followed by grammar & accuracy, pronunciation, and fluency & coherence. Through correlation analysis, the use of self-directed learning was highly correlated with the students' speaking skills (r=0.669). Thus, it could be said that applying self-directed learning is a helpful way for the students' speaking skills. Keywords: Speaking skills, self-directed learning, English community
