Abstract

The development of measurement instruments for basketball skills and physical performance is essential to support athlete training programs based on systematic and data-driven approaches. Although basketball in Indonesia has grown steadily, the transition from amateur to professional levels still faces challenges, one of which is the absence of standardized measurement tools that are both valid and reliable across different stages of athlete development. This study aimed to develop and examine the validity and reliability of basketball skill and physical test instruments intended for athletes aged 12–18 years. A quantitative methodological approach was employed, focusing on content validation through expert judgment. The validation process involved ten experts in basketball and sport science who assessed the relevance of each test item. Content validity was analyzed using the Content Validity Ratio (CVR), while inter-rater reliability was examined with Fleiss’ Kappa. The results indicated that of the 11 skill test items, 7 were valid and reliable, with coefficients ranging from moderate to almost perfect. However, several items, such as passing version II, right- and left-hand dribbling, and speed dribbling shoot, were deemed invalid and showed low reliability (slight). In the physical test domain, 8 of 10 items were validated and demonstrated almost perfect reliability, while the standing long jump and hexagon test were found invalid and yielded low reliability (poor). These findings suggest that the developed instruments meet validity and reliability standards for most items, and thus hold potential as reference tools for assessing physical and technical performance in youth basketball. Furthermore, the instruments provide a foundation for future studies involving field trials to confirm their effectiveness in athlete development programs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of injuries, injury locations, and initial treatment of sports injuries experienced by cricket athletes at the 9th East Java Provincial Sports Week (PORPROV). In Indonesia, research on cricket injuries remains limited, particularly in multi-event competitions such as the East Java Provincial Sports Week (PORPROV). This study employed a quantitative descriptive approach with a cross-sectional design and a purposive sampling technique. The population consisted of 280 cricket athletes who participated in the 9th PORPROV, and data were collected using a validated questionnaire. The inclusion criteria included athletes who experienced injuries during the competition and were willing to participate in the study. The data were analyzed using percentage techniques to describe the distribution of injuries. A total of 37 injury cases were recorded. The most common types of injuries were bruising (37.8%), followed by muscle cramps (21.6%), and sprains and strains (13.5% each). The most frequently injured body parts were the thighs/hamstrings (27.0%), followed by the feet (18.9%) and fingers (13.5%). In terms of initial treatment, the RICE method (45.94%) was the most commonly used, followed by the use of pain relief sprays (40.54%). Injury prevention programs can be made more effective by optimizing warm-ups, strengthening relevant muscle groups, and improving the readiness of facilities and medical support staff at the match venue.

Abstract

Karate is a martial art from Japan. Karate should not only focus on physical abilities and techniques. It also plays an important role in developing authentic life skills, especially for young karate practitioners. Objectives: The objective of this study is to explore how karate as a martial art can be used as a means of developing life skills for young karate practitioners. Methods: The research method used is a narrative literature review, which aims to provide information and knowledge through the analysis of previously published literature. The participants are documents in the form of relevant articles from 2021 to 2025, with criteria including being written in Indonesian and English. The data analysis technique used is thematic narrative analysis. Results: Ten relevant articles were identified as research findings. Specifically, the results indicate that structured and programmed karate training can optimize interpersonal and intrapersonal life skills such as motivation, respect, cooperation, sportsmanship, discipline, responsibility, and empathy. These skills are closely aligned with the values of bushido in karate. However, there are challenges in internalizing such character traits, including the perception that karate is associated with violent activities, varying quality of instructors, and competitive pressure that causes anxiety. Conclusion: It is concluded that karate is an effective medium for developing character values and life skills for young karateka, but this requires a holistic and comprehensive approach.
