Abstract

An investigation on productivity and log­skidding cost using buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) was carried out at the area of lnhutani V in Jambi in 1999. The objective is to get reliable information about such productivity and cost. Connected with this purpose, some related data as collected were i.e. volume of skidded log, skidding distance, skidding­working time, buffalo working time, feeding cost, operator cost, and equipment.Volumes of log which was skidded using buffalo ranged between 0.094 and 0.904 m3/tripwith an avverage of 0.484 m3/trip. Skidding distance using buffalo varied from 10 to 2­12 m with an average of 82 m. The working time varied from 11 to 83 minutes with an average of 30 minutes. The log skidding productivity ranged between 0.035 and 1.211 m3­hm/hour with an average of 0.338 m3­hmlhour. Log skidding costs using buffalo ranged between Rp 681 and Rp23.589 m3­hm with an average of Rp 4.375/m3­hm. It is suggested that volume of skidded log in each round trip and skidding distance be not more than 1 m3 and 250 m, respectively.

Abstract

Nano teknologi di bidang hasil hutan yang dapat dikembangkan di antaranya adalah nano karbon dari lignoselulosa. Bahan baku utamanya adalah atom karbon yang berasal dari arang hasil karbonisasi lignoselulosa. Bahan baku yang digunakan adalah jati yang dikarbonisasi pada suhu 400-500 °C, arang yang dihasilkan kemudian dilanjutkan dengan diaktivasi pada suhu 800 °C selama 60 menit dengan uap air dan kalium hidroksida (KOH) 15% sebagai aktivator. Proses selanjutnya dilakukan interkalasi dengan logam nikel dan di karbonisasi lagi pada suhu 900 °C selama 60 menit. Kualitas dan struktur karbon dievalusi menggunakan Pirolisis-gas kromatografi mass spectrofotometri (Py-GCMS), skening electron mikroskop-energi diperse spektrofotometer (SEM-EDS), X-ray difraktometer (X-RD). Arang aktif yang dihasilkan juga di uji sifat fisika dan kimianya. Biosensor dibuat dengan sistem moleculary imprinted polimer (MIP) berbasis elektroda pasta karbon dan optimasinya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nano karbon dari lignoselulosa dapat dibuat biosensor dengan sistem moleculary imprinted polimer (MIP). Formula optimum yang  dihasilkan terdiri dari campuran 15% MIP, 45% karbon dan 40% parafin yang menghasilkan faktor nernst sebesar 49,7 mV/dekade dan  limit deteksi sebesar 1,02 x 10-6 M pada pH optimum 4.

Abstract

Rapid destructive of Jackfruit wood was carried out by using a retort equipped with electrical heating syslem. This retort was also connected to a condenser and two flask to catch and  collect  the distillate or condensed gas.  The retort capacity was about  4 kg of wood.  Treatment conditions given in these experiment  were maximum heating temperature of500ᵒ C and 5 hours  distillation time.The results showed that charcoal yield of Jackfruit  wood varied from  25.00  to 39.81%, tar from  6.23 to 9.42%  and pyroligneous liquor from  67.64 to 102.05%  The calonfic  value of wood varied from  4392.00  to 4620. 65  kcal/g and charcoal from 6691.81 to 7108.37.kcal/g.Based on  these calorific values, wood and charcoal of Jackfruit wood are excellent material for fuel.

Abstract

Many  householders in  Yogyakarta  find  that  tney  need to know  something about  wood  destroying  organisms.   This may  be because  they  suspect  a problem  exists  in their house,  or  because  they plan  to buy  or build new house,  and wish  to avoid  serious  problems   during  use. However,   not  all damage  observed  should  cause concern,   as some  insects  attact only green  timber  and  their activity   cease  when  the  timber  dries-up. On the  other  hand.  some  insects  cause extensive  and con- tinuing  damage  and  can  be difficult  or expensive   to control.

Abstract

Formerly perupuk wood was not recognized as good raw material by wood working manufacturers. Because of the increasing scarcity of ramin wood, the perupuk   wood had gained the benefit of the situation as indicated by increasing demand and price of perupuk   wood.The technical and economic studies on perupuk   wood (Lophopetalum.   spp)  utilization  wascarried out at one wood working mill in Gresik, East Java in 1994.   The objectives of the study were to identify   kind  of products  resulted from perupuk    utilization,  recovery level of each product, productivity and efficiency ofperupuk wood working machineries,  and its value added.The study showed that kind of products  resulted from perupuk    utilization were moulding,smooth-four-side (S4S), finger jointed  stick, solid jointed  board and finger jointed  board. The average  recovery  of perupuk    utilization  was  55%  and  the highest  recovery  (65.60%) was obtained by smooth-four-side product.  The double planer machine had the highest productivity because all products  used the machine to get the standard dimensions. The efficiency of some perupuk    wood  working  machineries  still  low.   The  value  added  of perupuk    wood  working products  were 90%,  55%,   52%,  37% and  24% for  smooth-four-side,  finger jointed  board, moulding,  solid jointed board and fingerjointed stick respectively.Key words :   perupuk,   wood working,  recovery and value  added.

Abstract

The problem in using plywood bonded with urea formaldehyde  (UF) is formaldehyde   emission, especially in a room with limited ventilation.  To  reduce  formaldehyde emission,   the glue  can be mixed  with  catching agent. In this paper the effect of  urea and  ammonium   carbonate  as catching  agent  on  formaldehyde emission   and  on  bonding  strength  of  UF bonded  three plies made from jabon  is discussed.The effect of catching agent  type on formaldehyde emission  is  not  significant    while  the  effect of percentage of catching  agent is highly  significant on  formaldehyde   emission. The  higher percentage of catching agent,  the lower formal dehyde  emission  of plywood.The effect of type and percentage  of  catching  agent  on plywood bonding strength  is  highly  significant. The  higher percentage  of catching agent,  the lower plywood  bonding strength.To meet  formaldehyde emission  of  0,165 µg/ml  it  is recomended to use urea  14%  on  the  weight basis of liquid  UF. The bonding strength  of this plywood conforms   with  the Japanese standard, 1973.

Abstract

Penelitian pemanfaatan biomassa hutan untuk pembuatan arang aktif skala laboratorium dilaporkan dalam tulisan ini. Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah mendapatkan informasi sifat-sifat arang (suatu produk yang diperoleh sebelum proses aktivasi) dan mutu arang aktif.Bahan baku yang digunakan adalah kayu manii (Maesopsis eminii), bambu mayan(Gigantochloa robusta) dan tempurung biji kemiri (Aleuritas moluccana). Masing-masing dari                                                                                                                                                                                61bahan baku tersebut mula-mula dikarbonisasi menjadi arang, selanjutnya direndam dalam larutan K2CO3 yang terdiri dari tiga macam konsentrasi (5 %. 10 %, 20 %). dan dalam larutanH3PO4 yang berkonsentrasi 20 %. Arang tersebut diaktivasi dalam retort baja tahan karat Menggunakan uap panas bersuhu maksimum 750°< •. 800°< •. 900°('. Selama 60 menit, 90 menit dan 120 menitHasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hanya arang aktif dari kayu manii,dengan semua perlakuan yang diterapkan (bahan kimia perendaman dengan berbagai konsentrasi dan suhu aktivasi di relort) memiliki kemampuan menyerap iodium lebih dari 750 mg g. yang ternyata memenuhi persyaratan standar Industri Indonesia ( SII)Untuk arang aktif bamboo mayan asal Darmaga yang diberi perlakuan dalam larutan K2CO3 dengan konsenstrasi 5 %,10 % dan 20 % menggunakan sulut aktivasi 750 o C selama 120 menit menunjukkan bahwa semua hasil tidak memenuhi persyaratan SII.Sementara itu.arang aktif bambu mayan asal pasir awi menunjukkan bahwa semua perlakuan menghasilkan kemampuan menyerap iodium yang memenuhi persyaratan SII.Selanjutnya arang aktif dari tempurung biji kemiri yang direndam dalam larutan K2CO3 10 % pada suhu 750 mg/g sedangkan arang aktif dari kayu manii yang direndam dalam larutan H3PO4 20 % memiliki kemampuan menyerap iodium lebih besar dari 1000 mg g                Rendemen arang aktif tertinggi berturut-turut adalah 66,33 % dari tempurung biji kemiri , 64,00 % dari bambu mayan asal Pasir Awi,58,00 % dari bambu mayan asal Darmaga dan 49,66 % dari kayu manii.Atas dasar hasil perkalian nilai rendemen karang aktif dan daya serap iodium,arang aktif dari bambu mayan asal Darmaga yang direndam dalam larutan 113PO4 20 % pada suhu aktivasi 800 o C selama 90 menit menghasilkan daya serap iodium tertinggi.

Abstract

To minimize illegal logging in natural production forest, one of concession forest in Kalimantan has initiated to do a joint bussines logging with a community wellfare cooperative. The aim of the study was to measure productivity of extraction, operation cost, joint bussines income, investament and income of Koperasi Desa.The observation area was located at PT Tanjung Raya Intiga (PT TRI), Barito Hulu Puruk Cahu Forest District, of Central Kalimantan Province in 2001.The results showed that logging production achieved was 892,9 m3, log extraction productivity 99 m3. hm/hour, operation cost Rp 14,227/m3, logs selling revenue Rp 31,235,950,-, investment cost Rp 2,901,017.- and cooperative income Rp 28,901,017.-.The financial income was distributed to local community (34%), wages for cooperative bussines managers (29%), village contribution (4,5%), administration fee for cooperative (5%) and government officers (27%).The local people and the forest concessioners could share the benefit of cooperation in naturalproduction forest management.

Abstract

One hundred  and  twenty   five pieces  of  wood  from  five  species had been exposed  to Marine Borers in five different locations.  The test sites chosen  were around  Gulf of Jakarta,  i.e.  about  3 km  off  shore in Mauk, Mauk estuary,  Tanjung Pasir shore,  Rambut  Island  and Puntung  Java Island.The  result shows  that  at  the sea site  where the salinity  is relatively stable around  29‰  -   30‰  and at the Rambut  and Puntung Java Islands  30‰  -   34‰, all of  the  wood  tested  are badly  attacked by Marine Borers.  The result also shows  that  at  the  Mauk  estuary  and  Tanjung  Pasir shore  where  the salinity  5°/oo  -  30°/oo, damage  is only  small
