Abstract

In language learning, vocabulary is very important. The development of these skills should be known from the very beginning as a central element of language teaching. Therefore, this research aims to find out the teachers ' way to build vocabulary skills using text at SMA Negeri 1 Lage. The outcome of the study should be incorporated into the English vocabulary of teachers and students.The findings revealed that the reading text technique is effective in teaching new vocabularies. Beside that, this technique is important to help students memorize the new vocabularies. It can also stimulate them to be creative in producing and creating sentences

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions of certification teachers to applying the scientific approach method in the learning process. The method used in study is a qualitative method. Data collection techniques in this study used interviews, observation and documentation. Sources of data in this study are 3 teachers who has been certified. The result of the study show that: (1) Students more active, creative and make the learning process an obligation; (2) The scientific approach many technique, more varied, using many kinds, and (3 make it easier the students for understand. It can be concluded that certified teachers perceptions in applying scientific approach is positive.

Abstract

This research purposed to find out the types of deixis in the movie titled Wonder and determine what is dominant deixis used. The object of the research is Auggie Pullman utterances. To identifying the types of deixis in Wonder, the researcher used the theory by Yule (1996) then determined what was the dominant deixis used in that film. This type of research is qualitative research. In collect the data, the researcher used script of Wonder movie (2017). The result of the research showed that the three types of deixis using theory of Yule (1996) such as person, time, and place deixis. The use of person deixis represented to Auggie and the participant in the movie. While, the time deixis represented to the timing of the conversation in the movie. Moreover, the place deixis represented to the distance of place or location from the conversation in the movie. The dominant deixis used is person deixis which is consist 254 deictic expressions from 285 data.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine students' perceptions on the using of Instagram to learn English vocabulary. This type of research used qualitative research. The subjects used in this research were 20 students of various ages and who have followed an English learning account on Instagram. Data collection techniques in this research used questionnaire, interview, and documentation as supporting data which is needed in triangulation. Based on the research results obtained from students' perceptions of using Instagram for learning English vocabulary, it really helped the participants in adding new vocabulary that they got by following the English vocabulary learning account on Instagram. It can be interpreted that learning English on Instagram got a postive response by the participants and it can be used as a good choice in English learning media

Abstract

The purposes of this study are to find and describe cultural content in English textbooks based on the theory of cultural dimensions by Moran (2001). The data are taken from an English textbook entitled “When English Rings a Bell” revised 2017 for first year students of junior high school published by the Pusat Kurikulum and Perbukuan, Balitbang, Kemendikbud. There are 8 chapters that have been analyzed by the researcher. In this study, the researcher only focused on the part of the image to be studied and described. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The results of this study indicate that this textbook contains all sections of the categories of cultural dimensions based on Moran's (2001) theory, five cultural dimensions (product, person, practice, perspective, and communities). Based on these findings, the researcher recommends this book to be used as teaching material by English teachers, but the researcher suggests enriching references when teaching students.

Abstract

CTL involves students totally in learning process. Students are motivated to be achieve to study the material learning suitable with the topic. Learning vocabulabulary in Elementary School must be used the suitable method or strategy, because it was the basis knowledge in learning English. The implementation of CTL help the students to memorizes many vocabulary. The teacher followed the flow of teaching and learning process using CTL method, they are constructivism, inquiry, questioning, learning community, modeling, reflection and authentic assessment. The result of test obtained that the using of CTL is effective in teaching vocabulary at fifth grade of SDN Gontara

Abstract

The objective of this research are to find out the strategies used by the lecturer in teaching Speaking subject and to find out students’ responses towards the strategies that are used by the lecturer. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. This research uses observation, interview, and questionnaire to collect the data. The subject  of this research are lecturer who teach Survival Speaking subject and 21 students in the second semester of  English Education Study Program in 2020/2021 academic year. The result of this research  obtains that there are three strategies that are used by the lecturer in teaching Survial Speaking subject, namely ; Brainstorming, Small-Group Discussion, and Demonstration. The students responses towards strategies are used by the lecturer can be seen from the result of the questionnaire, the students responses are ; students likes survival speaking subject, interest in the strategies used by the lecturer in speaking subject, can pay attention when the lecturer provide survival speaking subject, strategies used by the lecturer make students feel easy to speak English well, motivated to speak in front of the class because the strategies used by the lecturer, make students understand new words that are hear in the survival speaking subject, more understand the material given by the lecturer, also feel happy to give opinions and questions to lecturer during survival speaking subject, and like the strategies used by the lecturer when giving assignments and evaluation in the survival speaking subject.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the students’ needs in Learning English for Agriculture Study Program at Sintuwu Maroso. The data collected by questionnaire. The data is analyzed by percentage formula. The finding of the research obtain that the students need in learning English for agriculture is to support their study.  The most important skill is reading and speaking.  The students need to learn English without working in small group because often have difficulty working in a small group during the class and the students need to understanding the lecture speaking because have trouble in understanding lecturers words. The students need to say something in English but always worry about saying something in case make a mistake in English. Students’ needs in improving their communication effectively with peers. It means that the students need in learning English for agriculture is to mastery in speaking

Abstract

This study aimed to: Describe the process  and students achievement of dialogue technique in teaching English to the seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 1 PosoThe researcher used descriptive qualitative methods to explain the results of the research in teaching learning by dialogue. These results indicate that the students still lack confidence to speak English, students were shy, their voices were no loud during speak English. In pronunciation, intonation and accuracy not correct. Through dialogue, student more confidence, they were no longer shy, their voices more loudly when speak English. The students more encourages and more active when asked to dialogue. They were motivates to improve their ability speaking skill and to make conversation by their pairs. The results obtained from the scores that students dialogue a significant increase. At the first meeting only 54,5% of students fulfill based on standard KKM was 71. At the second meeting was 86,3%. This proves that dialogue was the proper technique to train the students speaking skill especially English

Abstract

This research aims to find out the speaking learning strategies used by the fourth semester students of the English Language Department at Sintuwu Maroso University. This research is a descriptive qualitative research that uses questionnaire, interview, and documentation to collect data. The subjects of this research are fourth semester students of the English Language Education Study Program in the 2020/2021 academic year that enrolled in the Academic Speaking class. The questionnaire was given to 20 students, and the interviewees are 6 students. The results show that the fourth semester students of the English Language Education study program have applied all strategies, they are: effective memorizing activity (memory strategy), using mental processes (cognitive strategy), compensating disappeared knowledge (compensation strategy), controlling and evaluating learning (metacognitive strategy), regulate emotions (affective strategy), and cooperate with others (social strategy).
