Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of classroom teachers in optimising students’ talents and interests at MIN 2 Sidoarjo. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using field research methods, including observation, interviews, and documentation involving Grade V classroom teachers (VA, VB, and VC). The findings reveal that classroom teachers perform four key roles: facilitators, innovators, motivators, and communicators in supporting students’ potential development. These roles are implemented through differentiated learning practices, emotional support, and effective communication with students and parents. The study highlights the strategic contribution of classroom teachers as the main agents of talent and interest development in madrasah ibtidaiyah that lack guidance counsellors. The findings imply that strengthening teachers’ pedagogical competence in differentiated and student-centred learning is essential to support holistic student development in Islamic elementary education

Abstract

This study aims to examine EFL Students’ dependence on ChatGPT and its impact on their English learning process. The study focuses on second-semester students of the English Education program at an Islamic higher education institution in Jambi, Indonesia. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, using semi-structured interviews with five participants. The data were analysed thematically to identify students’ experiences and perceptions. The findings indicated that ChatGPT provides positive benefits, including improvements in vocabulary, grammar, and writing skills, as well as rapid feedback accompanied by clear explanations. However, the study also reveals several negative impacts of ChatGPT use, such as decreased critical thinking skills, excessive dependence on AI-generated content, and reduced intrinsic motivation for independent learning. Therefore, this study emphasises that although ChatGPT serves as a supportive tool in English language learning, its use needs to be carefully managed to ensure responsible and effective application. The findings offer insights for educators in integrating ChatGPT by balancing AI technological support with students’ own learning efforts, so that learners remain active and independent in the English learning processThis study aims to examine EFL Students’ dependence on ChatGPT and its impact on their English learning process. Abstract

Several Indonesian Islamic Higher Education Institutions (Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam/PTKIN) experienced a transformation from Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) to Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) in the early 2000s. This transformation not only involved an institutional change but also marked a significant epistemological shift from a single religious identity toward a multidisciplinary university model that integrates religious and general sciences. This study aims to analyse four models of knowledge integration developed at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, and UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Employing a qualitative comparative approach based on a literature review, this study examines the philosophical foundations, epistemological orientations, and patterns of implementation of each model. The findings indicate that the four models emerged from a shared historical context, namely the transformation from IAIN to UIN, and are grounded in relatively similar philosophical foundations that position monotheism and revelation as central epistemic references. However, these foundations are articulated through different conceptual metaphors and epistemological emphases. The implementation of the models has been institutionalised through curricula, academic policies, and organisational culture. The implications of these models for the transformation of Islamic higher education in the digital and global era are complementary and mutually reinforcing. This study also identifies implementation challenges related to academic governance, curriculum synchronisation, and faculty capacity. Overall, the four models of knowledge integration enrich Islamic higher education by integrating spirituality, scientific rationality, and social responsibility, while highlighting the need to strengthen academic governance and sustainable professional development

Abstract

The rapid proliferation of social media has fundamentally reshaped how early adolescents engage in communication, identity construction, and social learning. Despite growing scholarly attention to adolescents’ digital practices, limited research has examined how communication patterns within closed messaging platforms, such as WhatsApp, function as mechanisms for developing digital resilience among early adolescents aged 10–13 years. This gap is critical, given their heightened vulnerability to online risks due to still-developing emotional regulation and digital awareness. This study aims to address this gap by examining how digital resilience is shaped through everyday communication practices in a semi-urban context in Klaten, Indonesia. Employing a qualitative exploratory design, data were collected from 26 participants through demographic surveys, in-depth interviews, and digital ethnography. The findings reveal that digital resilience is an emergent, relational process shaped by the interplay of self-regulation, evolving privacy awareness, informal behavioural norms, and sustained external mediation from parents and teachers. Notably, WhatsApp group interactions function as micro-social ecosystems where emotional regulation, empathy, and adaptive communication strategies are negotiated and practised. This study advances the conceptualisation of digital resilience as a communication-driven developmental competence and underscores the importance of dialogic digital parenting and context-sensitive literacy interventions in fostering adaptive digital engagement

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the effect of integrating local wisdom into science learning on improving elementary school students' scientific literacy. Students' scientific literacy in Indonesia is still low due to less contextual learning. The integration of local wisdom into science learning in elementary schools is also still limited and has not been widely explored. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The subjects were 26 fifth-grade students of MI Nahdlatuth Thullab. The instrument was a scientific literacy test based on the OECD framework integrated with local contexts such as the Rasulan tradition and the Gunungkidul ecosystem. Data were analysed through validity, reliability, and N-Gain tests. The results showed the instrument was valid and reliable (α = 0.812). Local wisdom-based learning improved scientific literacy with an average N-Gain value of 0.32 (moderate category). These findings indicate that the integration of local wisdom can be a more meaningful and contextual learning alternative

Abstract

Digital transformation in madrasah ibtidaiyah presents challenges in integrating technology into learning processes grounded in Islamic educational values. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Islamic education management in the development of digital madrasahs and to explore the use of technology in supporting learning, assessment, and students’ digital literacy at MIS Terpadu Kota Langsa. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving the principal, teachers, and educational staff as informants through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. Data were analyzed using a descriptive-analytical approach with source triangulation and member checking to ensure data validity. The findings indicate that digital classes are implemented for students in grades 4–6 through a readiness-based and contextual approach, taking into account cognitive readiness, foundational literacy, and parental support. Learning Management Systems (LMS) and digital learning applications strengthen the management of learning materials and activities, while digital-based final examinations function as tools for both assessment and the development of technological literacy. Digital transformation also enhances teachers’ professional roles and highlights the importance of integrating Islamic values into decision-making processes. This study emphasizes that the success of digital madrasahs is determined by the institution’s ability to manage technology in an ethical, pedagogical, and contextual manner. Theoretically, this study contributes new insights into the principles of Islamic education management that support the development of digital madrasahs, ensuring that technological transformation in primary education remains aligned with the values of tarbiyah.   Keyword: Digital Madrasah, Islamic Education Management, Primary Education

Abstract

The decline in yellow-book literacy skills at the elementary level is a serious challenge for Islamic boarding schools. This study aims to analyze the strategy of organizing intensive learning to reduce the number of novice students reading the book at the Darullughah Wadda'wah Islamic Boarding School. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study examines the Ta'lim al-Muta'allim book guidance program in seven classes of fourth-grade elementary school students. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with the Department of Education, and a documentary study of evaluation results. The research findings indicate that the "Triple Supervisor-Small Group" strategy is a key factor in the program's success. By dividing the class into small groups accompanied by three supervisors alternately, the quality control of the guidance becomes more precise. The high intensity of meetings (5x a week) with an effective duration of 45 minutes has been proven to be able to form a reading habit and accelerate mastery of the "Crucial Chapters" of Arabic grammar. Although the success rate has not reached 100% due to differences in individual learning speeds, the evaluation results show significant progress from the category of unable to read independently. Multi-layered supervisory management and routine monthly evaluation meetings are crucial quality assurance instruments. This research highlights the importance of human resource organization and time efficiency in Islamic boarding school curriculum management to accelerate the literacy skills of novice students in classical texts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of spiritual intelligence on students’ social intelligence and its implications for strengthening character education at the junior high school level. The background of this research is based on the importance of integrating spiritual and social dimensions in shaping students’ prosocial behavior, empathy, responsibility, and integrity amid moral challenges and rapid social change. This study employed a quantitative approach using a correlational survey design. The sample consisted of junior high school students selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires measuring spiritual intelligence and social intelligence, and were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. The findings indicate that spiritual intelligence has a positive and significant effect on students’ social intelligence. Higher levels of spiritual intelligence are associated with better interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to build harmonious social relationships. These results confirm that strengthening spiritual values within the educational process contributes significantly to the development of mature social character. This study recommends integrating spiritual intelligence development programs into the curriculum as a systematic strategy to support sustainable character education.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low connection between science learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) and the local cultural context of students, which has an impact on the lack of optimal science literacy. Science learning tends to be abstract and textbook-oriented, while the integration of local Acehnese wisdom has not been structured in the learning design. This study aims to (1) analyse the needs of science learning based on local wisdom in Aceh as the basis for the development of the Seuramoe Saentia Learning Model and (2) measure the level of improvement in students' science literacy after the application of the model. The researcher uses a research and development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects, based on the ADDIE model, comprised 138 grade V students from four MI in Langsa City, who were selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments are in the form of observation sheets and science literacy tests (20 pretest questions and 20 posttest questions). The validity of the model was tested using Aiken's V, while the increase in science literacy was analysed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, effect size, and N-Gain. The results showed that the model had a very high content validity (Aiken's V = 0.96). The Wilcoxon test showed the dominance of positive ratings without a decrease in scores, with an effect size of 0.87 (very large category). An average N-Gain value of 0.72 (high category) indicates a substantial and even increase in science literacy. These findings show that the systematic integration of local wisdom in science learning effectively improves students' science literacy. Implicitly, the Seuramoe Saentia Learning Model can be a strategic alternative in the development of science learning that is contextual, inclusive, and rooted in local culture in madrasas
