Abstract

Abstrak- The development of technology in buildings is one of the factors triggering the acceleration of methods in the facade configuration system. Double Skin Facade (DSF) is one of the building facade concept innovations. The purpose of applying the DSF concept is to optimize the use of energy related to the air conditioning system to obtain thermal comfort in buildings. The results of measurements of the existing condition of the Image Studio room in the morning until 11.00 are included in the optimal comfort category, 11.00 - 13.00 are in the warm comfortable category and starting at 13.00-18.00 tend not to meet thermal comfort. Based on the simulation results the use of Double Skin Facade can reduce the temperature in the room around 3.47oC. With the application of Double Skin Facade in this Image Studio room, it can reduce the heat radiation from sunlight that directly enters through the window because it can be detained first in the double facade. The application of Double Skin Facade can increase the thermal comfort of an Image Studio room. Kata kunci- Double Skin Façade, Thermal Comfort

Abstract

Rumah Atsiri Indonesia (RAI) is an edu-recreation complex located in Tawangmangu. RAI adopts “experiencing essence” concept through a comprehensive informal learning about essential oils. RAI’s challenge as an educational leisure setting sets a lead to the main research goal: how visitors perceived spaces in RAI and related them to learning motivation. The observation areas were focused on Museum Gallery and the Essential Oils Collection Gardens. These areas provide most knowledge about essential oils to visitors. Data and information were analyzed qualitatively, by comparing physical settings characteristics of observation areas, person-centered mapping and results of informal interviews and questionnaires. As the result, this research showed that there was relation between physical setting characterictics and visitors’ learning motivation. Visitors were more motivated to learn in Essential Oils Collection Gardens, especially in outdoor garden. In this area, visitors got richer experiences because visitors had more freedom in exploring essential oil plants. As a performative space that emphasizes visitors as active participants, this area could stimulated visitors’ emotional and memories through five senses. The adventurous feeling also can be seen from some architectural factors, such as circuitous path with shortcuts, ramps and stairs, which resulting “Learning for Fun” concept. While in Museum Gallery, visitors circulation and media displays were controlled. As a narrative space that put forward the storyline about the history of essential oils, evidently, visitors got bored easily and show no interest in learning which was reflected in their withdrawal behaviors. Stimulation to visitor’s senses were also limited to sight and hearing, so visitors could not be active participant. Learning motivation was also influenced by intrapersonal factors, but these factors were not analyzed further in this research. Some architectural factors that influenced visitors’ learning motivation include: space characteristics, binding scale categories, and media display types. Keywords: Essential Oils; Informal Learning; Physical Settings

Abstract

Abstact – Indonesia is an archipelago that is located between two continents, Asia and Australia, also between two oceans, the Pasific and the Indian ocean. This prospers in the commercial activity. Because of the location, costal cities are more easy to reach, foreigner that drop in have significant impact to these cities, for example Cirebon, a costal city that lies in the north east part of West Jawa. Various foreigners that drop in and also stay in Cirebon could be seen by the heritage, one of them is the Vihara Dewi Welas Asih. The temple as a house of worship for Konghucu religion is easy to be known by the colour and Chinese specific architectural style. The city development pushes to changes, as to the Vihara Dewi Welas Asih, renovation and additional buildings is inevitable. This paper is to study the architectural style applied to the additional buildings surrounding the temple. By observation the architectural style of the new building is recognised, also how the context of the new building compare to the temple. It is expected that the new architectural style will be in harmony with the Vihara Dewi Welas Asih architectural style. It is also expected that intervention by the Local Government in organizing the alteration so the Cultural Heritage area is well maintained, become a tourist destination site giving a positive impact to the continuity of the Cultural Heritage building in Cirebon city. Keywords – architectural style addaptation, Vihara Dewi Welas Asih, Cultural Heritage Building

Abstract

The architecture design studio is a core course in architectural learning that trains students' abilities in the architectural design process. Unfortunately, students often fail to meet scheduled task targets, even though the time alloted is sufficient. This article examines the application of the group pin-up as a teaching method and its effectiveness in helping students meet deadlines for completing tasks in the Architecture Design III course, a studio attended by second year students. This study uses documents analysis (reviewing student design drawings to measure student achievement), and interviews (investigating changes in attitudes and perceptions of the students in pin-up group applications). We found that using the group pin-up strategy to impose an in-between deadline leads to improved discipline, better teamwork, and higher motivation due to competition in the group. This method is recommended in architectural design studios as a simulation practice for students before they move up and begin to work in the architecture profession.

Abstract

Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, is indirectly experiencing rapid development in building construction. As a result, day by day Jakarta is becoming crowded by buildings and eventually forced to negate the existence of open space in one site. This condition is also experienced in Jalan Jaksa (a tourism area) and Jalan Wahid Hasyim (at the end of Jalan Jaksa). Both of these roads seem lacking in considering the existence of local development regulations that should pay attention to the rules of the building border line (GSB) and the road border line (GSJ). To find out the truth, the research will be conducted through the method of observing the city face on both roads. The analytical method used is correspondence analysis using variable height of buildings and the existence of open space in each building. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that there are still many buildings that not applying the rules of the building border line (GSB) and the road border line (GSJ). Especially for one-story buildings that tend not to have a yard (open space area) on the front as a form of implementing the GSB / GSJ rules. Meanwhile, multi-storey buildings (2-storey, 3-storey, etc.) here in general have a yard in the front. The existence of the yard is actually important to be provided as an open space, because it can accommodate human activities and needs, such as a parking area or an assembly point when a disaster occurs.

Abstract

The implementation of Green Building criteria is relatively new in plumbing installation. Bogor regency is a city of rain, rainfall data of 18.09 mm/day so that the concept of green buildings can be applied with the use of rain water. Consequently, the integration of these criteria into the design process has the potential to change the design process itself. The implementation of the green building criteria into the conventional design process will be discussed in this paper. The concept of this project is to design an apartment that has 5 towers of 20 floors each with a green building concept. To achieve this goal, the Green Building criteria has been implemented since the beginning of the design process until the detailing process on the end of the project. Several studies were performed throughout the design process, such as Conceptual reviews, where several professionally proved theories related to plumbing installation systems and used for a reference. Rainwater harvesting can save 3,48% of clean water from water sources. Keywords—Plumbing Installation, Green Building, Rainwater Harvesting

Abstract

As a setting of life and cultural products made by humans, settlements always undergo transformation along with the dynamics of their inhabitants’ lives. The dynamics of occupants, in addition to being impacted by the development of local knowledge, changes in the way humans respond to climate, and cultural transformation, are also influenced by external factors. External factors that influence settlement transformation can arise in the form of urbanisation, changes in social and political systems, economics, and technological development. In traditional societies, natural threats are predictable and conquerable. The transformation of settlements can take place in the same frame, promoting natural considerations, or in a different frame with the existence of new ideas and knowledge and technology coming from the outside. To be able to understand the transformation of traditional settlements and their transformations in relation to disaster vulnerability, this paper evaluated the causing factors, patterns, and consequences resulted from the transformation of settlements. For this reason, urban morphological studies are applied as an evaluation method. The results of the evaluation of settlement transformations reveal that traditional settlements are farther away leaving natural-harmony patterns at the root of their existence. Economic approach has replaced the cosmological-based settlement. It is recommended that natural site characteristic should be taken into consideration in order to avoid natural disaster in the future. This means that the traditional approach is still relevant in contemporary situation. Keywords: Traditional settlements; transformation; disaster vulnerablity

Abstract

As one of Balinese architectural works that have a sacred function as a place of worship for Hindus, the construction of a temple will not be separated from the local wisdom of the community. Temple is often regarded as an identity of a region, cultural heritage, and a hereditary historical heritage that manifested as an architectural work. Although considered as a historical heritage, the absence of adequate historical documentation regarding temples in Bali causes changes that often do not match the story and the initial appearance of the temple. Many factors can be said to be the cause of the temple change, e.g.: (1) the community's desire to make temple repairs practical and fast; (2) understanding of the local community who are still minimal in the rules of building a temple; (3) there are no clear rules regarding the construction of a temple; (4) people's insensitivity to their identity; and (5) the absence of adequate documentation for the process of building a temple.Changes of a temple are also caused by government development funds, so many temples are dismantled and changed "forcefully" which unconsciously destroys the order of values and traces of the history of the temple. Temples that have historical values are instead replaced with new or contemporary models that are not necessarily based on original literature from the previous ancestral order. Seeing this phenomenon, researchers believe the need for preservation efforts through conservation strategies so that changes can be overcome and controlled according to their portion. Keyword : conservation strategis, historical temple, identity
