Abstract

This research was a development study aimed at producing a project-based learning (PjBL) e-module on gear material for the course Dynamic Machine Elements and Basic CAD/CAM. The method used was Research and Development (R&D) with the Holistic 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Deploy). The study was conducted during the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The research subjects were students of the Mechanical Engineering Education Study Program at Sriwijaya University. The research instruments consisted of expert validation questionnaires and student practicality questionnaires. The results showed that the validation of the material and media by validators indicated that the gear material e-module based on project-based learning achieved a material validation score of 88.57% and a media validation score of 90%, both of which fell into the “Very Valid” category. Based on the small group trial involving 28 students, the e-module was also found to be highly practical, with a practicality score of 64.10 and a percentage of 91.51%. These results were based on three assessment indicators: usefulness, user satisfaction, and ease of use, all of which were categorized as “Very Practical.” Therefore, it was concluded that the developed project-based learning e-module on gear material was categorized as very valid and practical for use in the student learning process.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman siswa di SMK Negeri 1 Bener Meriah dalam memahami sistem dari cara kerja sistem kelistrikan lampu sein sepeda motor dengan menggunakan alat peraga. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui: (1) proses pembuatan alat peraga sistem kelistrikan lampu sein sepeda motor, (2) kelayakan alat peraga sistem kelistrikan lampu sein sepeda motor, (3) respon guru dan siswa terhadap alat peraga Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian pengembangan R&D dengan menggunakan instrument Observasi dan angket. Metoda pada penelitian ini adalah meliputi potensi masalah, pengumpulan data, dan desain produk. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah: validasi ahli materi dan validasi ahli media. Berdasarkan validasi dari ahli materi dan ahli media dapat disimpulkan alat peraga layak digunakan. Hal ini terbukti berdasarkan skor yang di beri sebesar 85% dan 97,5% dengan kualifikasi sangat layak. Guru di SMK Negeri 1 Bener Meriah juga memberikan respon kelayakan terhadap alat peraga dengan skor 9,25%. Hasil dari responden siswa terhadap media alat peraga sistem kelistrikan lampu sein sepeda motor mendapatkan skor 92,36% dengan kualifikasi layak. This study aims to improve students' understanding in understanding the system of how the motorcycle turn signal electrical system works using teaching aids. The purpose of this study is to determine: (1) the process of making motorcycle turn signal electrical system teaching aids, (2) the feasibility of motorcycle turn signal electrical system teaching aids, (3) teacher and student responses to teaching aids. This type of research uses R&D development research using observation and questionnaire instruments. The methods in this study include potential problems, data collection, and product design. The data analysis techniques used are: validation by material experts and validation by media experts. Based on validation from material experts and media experts, it can be concluded that the teaching aids are suitable for use. This is proven by the scores given of 85% and 97.5% with very suitable qualifications. Teachers at SMK Negeri 1 Bener Meriah also gave a feasibility response to the teaching aids with a score of 9.25%. The results of student respondents to the motorcycle turn signal electrical system teaching aid media got a score of 92.36% with suitable qualifications.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between vocational interest and learning outcomes of the chassis system subject of class XI TSM students of SMK Negeri 4 Medan, to determine the relationship between learning motivation and learning outcomes of the chassis system subject of class XI TSM students of SMK Negeri 4 Medan, to determine vocational interest and learning motivation towards learning outcomes of the chassis system subject of class XI TSM students of SMK Negeri 4 Medan, as input material for reference sources for other researchers in conducting research in the same field, and as input material for educational institutions in efforts to improve the quality of education. The subjects of this study were 33 class XI students. The instruments used in this study were questionnaires on vocational interest, learning motivation, and learning outcomes, data taken from the results of the mid-semester exam scores worked on by class XI students in the chassis system subject. The data analysis techniques used were Qualitative and Quantitative, Qualitative in the form of descriptive analysis and Quantitative in the form of calculating data on the relationship between vocational interest and learning motivation with student learning outcomes. From the results of data analysis, it was obtained that there is a significant relationship between Vocational Interest and Learning Outcomes. The higher the student's interest in the chosen vocation, the higher the learning outcomes achieved. Furthermore, there is no significant relationship between Learning Motivation and Learning Outcomes partially. However, learning motivation remains an important factor that drives the learning process. and there is also a significant relationship simultaneously between Vocational Interest and Learning Motivation with Learning Outcomes. These two variables together can explain the variation in student learning outcomes.

Abstract

The pneumatic system plays a crucial role in operating the drawworks, which is a key component in drilling operations. One common problem is air leakage, which leads to pressure drops and negatively affects the drawworks' performance, particularly in response time. The study uses a paired sample t-test method to compare air pressure and response time under normal conditions and during leakage. The results show an average pressure drop of 41–42 psi and an increase in response time by approximately 35–36 seconds under leakage conditions. Additionally, a simulation using Autodesk Inventor revealed significant pressure losses at hose connections and solenoid valves. These findings indicate that air leakage has a significant negative impact on the efficiency and performance of the pneumatic system, especially in the operation of the drawworks.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of biomimicry design-based learning on the creativity and innovative thinking skills of vocational high school students in designing sustainable machines. The research employed a quasi-experimental approach with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest design. The participants were eleventh-grade students from the mechanical engineering program at SMK Negeri 1 Muara Batu. Research instruments included a creativity test and an innovative thinking skills rubric, both validated by experts. Data were analyzed using Repeated Measures MANOVA to determine differences in students’ abilities before and after the implementation of the learning model. The results indicated a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores (p < 0.001), with a partial eta squared value of 0.943, demonstrating a very strong effect. These findings suggest that biomimicry design-based learning effectively enhances students’ creativity and innovative thinking through exploration of natural principles, collaboration, and contextual problem solving. Overall, this learning approach is proven effective in developing higher-order thinking skills and has great potential to serve as a sustainable and industry-relevant model for vocational education in the future.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang dan membangun mesin pengiris tempe otomatis tipe rotary disc cutter untuk meningkatkan efisiensi dan kualitas pengirisan tempe bagi pelaku UMKM. Mesin dikembangkan untuk mengatasi kelemahan alat sebelumnya yang masih bergantung pada operator dan belum mampu menghasilkan irisan yang seragam. Sistem penggerak menggunakan motor listrik berdaya 0,16 HP, sedangkan mekanisme pendorong tempe memanfaatkan sistem pegas. Ketebalan irisan dapat diatur melalui pengaturan jarak pisau. Pengujian alat dilakukan dengan tiga variasi putaran pisau, yaitu 150 rpm, 170 rpm, dan 200 rpm menggunakan massa tempe 0,30 kg. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi putaran pisau, semakin besar kapasitas pengirisan yang diperoleh. Pada putaran 150 rpm kapasitas mencapai 2,432 kg/menit, pada 170 rpm sebesar 2,682 kg/menit, dan pada 200 rpm meningkat hingga 3,102 kg/menit. Persentase irisan tidak layak berada pada rentang 2–3 irisan per pengujian. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa mesin telah mampu bekerja lebih cepat dan stabil dibandingkan pengirisan manual. Mesin ini berpotensi dikembangkan lebih lanjut untuk peningkatan kapasitas dan kontrol otomatis.   This study aims to design and develop an automatic tempe slicer using a rotary disc cutter system to improve slicing efficiency and uniformity for small-scale food industries. The machine was developed to overcome limitations in previous designs, which still relied heavily on manual operation and were unable to consistently produce uniform slices. The system utilizes a 0.16 HP electric motor as the main power source and a spring-based pushing mechanism to feed the tempe toward the rotating blade. Slice thickness can be adjusted by modifying the blade spacing. Performance tests were conducted using three rotational speeds—150 rpm, 170 rpm, and 200 rpm—with a tempe mass of 0.30 kg. The results indicated that higher rotational speed leads to increased slicing capacity. At 150 rpm the machine reached 2.432 kg/min, at 170 rpm it achieved 2.682 kg/min, and at 200 rpm it reached 3.102 kg/min. The number of defective slices ranged from 2 to 3 pieces per test. These results demonstrate that the machine performs faster and more consistently than manual slicing. Further improvements may be made for capacity enhancement and automatic control.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi konstruksi menuntut kualitas sambungan las yang memiliki kekuatan dan keuletan tinggi, khususnya pada baja karbon rendah yang banyak digunakan dalam bidang manufaktur dan konstruksi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan pengaruh kombinasi variasi arus pengelasan dan jenis elektroda terhadap sifat mekanik sambungan las menggunakan metode Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Metode yang digunakan adalah eksperimen komparatif dengan dua perlakuan, yaitu arus 100 A menggunakan elektroda E6013 dan arus 110 A menggunakan elektroda RB-26. Spesimen uji tarik dibuat sesuai standar JIS Z 2201:1981 dan dianalisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif melalui perhitungan persentase perbedaan antar perlakuan. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi 100 A–E6013 menghasilkan tegangan leleh sebesar 320,19 MPa, tegangan tarik maksimum 432,99 MPa, dan regangan 24,55%, sedangkan kombinasi 110 A–RB-26 menghasilkan tegangan leleh 222,39 MPa, tegangan tarik maksimum 425,27 MPa, dan regangan 23,21%. Perbedaan terbesar terjadi pada tegangan leleh sebesar 43,97%, yang menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi 100 A–E6013 memiliki ketahanan deformasi plastis awal yang lebih baik. Secara keseluruhan, variasi kombinasi arus dan jenis elektroda berpengaruh terhadap karakteristik mekanik sambungan las, dengan kombinasi 100 A menggunakan elektroda E6013 memberikan performa yang lebih optimal pada penelitian ini. The advancement of construction technology requires welded joints with high strength and ductility, particularly in low carbon steel widely used in manufacturing and structural applications. This study aims to compare the effect of welding current and electrode type combinations on the mechanical properties of welded joints using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process. A comparative experimental method was employed with two treatment variations: 100 A using E6013 electrode and 110 A using RB-26 electrode. Tensile test specimens were prepared according to the JIS Z 2201:1981 standard and analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods through percentage difference calculations between treatments. The results show that the 100 A–E6013 combination produced a yield strength of 320.19 MPa, ultimate tensile strength of 432.99 MPa, and elongation of 24.55%, whereas the 110 A–RB-26 combination resulted in a yield strength of 222.39 MPa, ultimate tensile strength of 425.27 MPa, and elongation of 23.21%. The largest difference was observed in yield strength (43.97%), indicating better resistance to initial plastic deformation in the 100 A–E6013 combination. Overall, the variation in welding current and electrode type combination influences the mechanical characteristics of welded joints, with the 100 A–E6013 combination providing the most optimal performance in this study.

Abstract

Masker N-95 yang selama ini menjadi andalan perlindungan pernapasan ternyata menyimpan keterbatasan. Lapisan serat-mikro polypropylene (PP) yang menjadi bahan utamanya dinilai belum cukup efektif dalam menangkap partikel-partikel berbahaya berukuran sangat kecil, sekaligus memiliki sifat mekanik yang masih perlu ditingkatkan. Berangkat dari tantangan tersebut, penelitian ini menghadirkan pendekatan inovatif dengan memodifikasi lapisan commercial PP melt-blown menggunakan nanofiber Nylon-6 yang difabrikasi melalui metode electrospinning. Membran non-woven yang dihasilkan kemudian dikarakterisasi secara menyeluruh mulai dari analisa sifat fisik hingga evaluasi kinerja filtrasi menggunakan Particulate Filtration Efficiency (PFE). Modifikasi PP melt-blown dengan nanofiber Nylon-6 terbukti mampu meningkatkan kinerja filtrasi secara signifikan, dengan nilai PFE terhadap PM0.3 yang berhasil melampaui angka 95%, didukung pula oleh nilai quality factor yang memuaskan. Capaian ini membuka harapan baru bahwa material komposit tersebut berpotensi menjadi solusi nyata dalam pengembangan masker N-95 yang lebih andal dan efektif untuk melindungi kesehatan masyarakat. The N95 mask, long regarded as a reliable frontline of respiratory protection, turns out to carry its own limitations. The microporous polypropylene (PP) fiber layer that forms its core material has been considered insufficiently effective at capturing extremely small hazardous particles and exhibits mechanical properties that still leave room for improvement. To address this challenge, the present study introduces an innovative approach by modifying a commercial PP melt-blown layer with Nylon-6 nanofibers fabricated via electrospinning. The resulting non-woven membrane was then comprehensively characterized, ranging from physical property analysis to filtration performance evaluation using Particulate Filtration Efficiency (PFE). Modification of PP melt-blown with Nylon-6 nanofibers significantly enhanced filtration performance, with PFE values against PM0.3 exceeding 95%, further supported by a satisfactory quality factor. This achievement offers renewed hope that the composite material has strong potential as a viable solution for developing a more reliable and effective N95 mask to safeguard public health.

Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of using E-Modules on V-block manufacturing competencies towards the cognitive learning outcomes of 11th-grade Mechanical Engineering students. We used a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The sample included 34 students purposively selected based on material completion criteria. Data was collected through multiple-choice tests given before and after the treatment in the experimental class. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon test since it wasn't normally distributed. The results showed a significant increase in the class's average score, going from 69.15 in the pretest to 89.91 in the posttest. Hypothesis testing also confirmed a statistically significant difference in concept understanding. The normalized gain score analysis put the effectiveness of this media in the medium category. The study concludes that using E-Modules is moderately effective in helping students independently master concepts and work procedures, making it a good alternative solution to overcome the lack of practical facilities in vocational high schools.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh terhambatnya proses pembelajaran praktik di SMK Negeri 1 Semarang akibat renovasi workshop, sehingga memerlukan media pembelajaran alternatif berupa e-modul pada materi pembuatan roda gigi lurus. Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan keefektifan implementasi e-modul terhadap peningkatan hasil belajar kognitif siswa pada mata pelajaran Teknik Pemesinan Frais. Metode deskriptif kuantitatif diterapkan dengan sampel penelitian sebanyak 34 siswa kelas XI Teknik Mesin yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling. Hasil validasi ahli menunjukkan bahwa e-modul sangat layak digunakan, dengan persentase kelayakan sebesar 95,50% untuk media, 95,00% untuk materi, dan 81,25% untuk instrumen tes. Data hasil belajar menunjukkan peningkatan skor rata-rata kelas yang signifikan, dari 69,27 pada pretest menjadi 83,09 pada posttest. Pengujian hipotesis menggunakan Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test menghasilkan nilai signifikansi 0,000 (p < 0,05), yang mengonfirmasi adanya pengaruh positif nyata dari penggunaan e-modul terhadap kompetensi siswa. Analisis keefektifan melalui skor N-Gain menghasilkan nilai rata-rata 0,31 yang termasuk dalam kategori sedang. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa e-modul pembuatan roda gigi lurus terbukti efektif dan menjadi solusi yang layak untuk menjembatani keterbatasan fasilitas praktik di sekolah menengah kejuruan. This research is motivated by the disruption of the practical learning process at SMK Negeri 1 Semarang due to workshop renovations, necessitating alternative learning media in the form of e-modules for the straight gear manufacturing topic. The primary objective of this study is to describe the effectiveness of implementing these e-modules on improving students' cognitive learning outcomes in the Milling Machine Engineering subject. A descriptive quantitative method was employed, with a research sample of 34 Grade XI Mechanical Engineering students selected via purposive sampling. Expert validation results indicate that the e-module is highly feasible, with feasibility percentages of 95.50% for media, 95.00% for material, and 81.25% for test instruments. Learning outcome data demonstrated a significant increase in the class average score, from 69.27 in the pretest to 83.09 in the posttest. Hypothesis testing using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), confirming a tangible positive influence of e-module usage on student competence. Effectiveness analysis through N-Gain scores resulted in an average value of 0.31, categorized as medium. The study concludes that the straight gear manufacturing e-module is proven effective and serves as a viable solution to bridge the limitations of practical facilities in vocational schools.
