Abstract

The learning process in this pandemic era triggers the enhancement of technology utilization. The virtual learning classroom is then used for compensating the absence of face to face learning process. It also happens in the learning process for English for specific purposes (ESP). This research is aimed at finding out and describing the students’ perceptions about virtual discussion conducted by the lecturer for some meetings according to the campus’ syllabus. The data is collected from questionnaire-interview (Questaview) containing some questions to enlist students’ views which are distributed to 3 classes, they are two Information System classes and an Accounting Information System class. The sample of this research is just 30% of the entire students which are 22 students. Then, for analyzing the data, the researcher describes the students’ opinion on virtual discussion of learning English for specific purposes and uses Likert scale. The result shows that virtual discussion has positive and negative effects to comprehend the material, less acceptance of English material, less practice, yet the flexibility of learning time and re-reading material can be approved by the students. At the last opinion, the students state their wishes in conducting double ways consecutively, both online and offline for obtaining the useful benefits from those two.

Abstract

This paper delves into the contemporary dynamics characterizing the educational practices of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia, focusing on their intersection with literacy practices and the principles of religious moderation. Indonesia's pesantren system has been a cornerstone of Islamic education for centuries, and this study seeks to shed light on how these traditional institutions are adapting to modern contexts while preserving their core values. Through a comprehensive analysis of literature and theories, we argue on the multifaceted ways in which literacy practices are integrated into the curriculum of pesantren, enabling students to engage effectively with both religious texts and broader educational content. Moreover, we also explore how these literacy practices align with the principles of religious moderation, fostering an environment that promotes tolerance, dialogue, and ethical conduct among students in a modern world.

Abstract

In this era of globalization, the integration of religious moderation in education has an important role in maintaining inter-religious harmony. Social Studies can be an effective platform to introduce the concept of religious moderation to students. This study uses a qualitative research approach with an interview method to explore educators' strategies in integrating social studies learning and religious moderation. The results of the analysis show that the integration of religious moderation in social studies has several significant benefits. First, this approach allows learners to gain a better understanding of the religions around them, respect differences, and avoid prejudice or negative stereotypes. Second, the integration of religious moderation can facilitate interfaith dialog and build trust among learners with different religious backgrounds. Third, it encourages learners to develop an attitude of tolerance and mutual respect in building an inclusive and harmonious society. However, this study also identified some challenges faced in implementing the integration of religious moderation in social studies subjects. Some of these challenges include diverse perspectives on religious moderation, limited availability of resources, and educators' ability to manage and facilitate sensitive discussions about religion. This research contributes to the understanding of the effectiveness of religious moderation integration in social studies learning. The results of this study can be used by educators and policy makers to improve and develop religious moderation integration programs in the education curriculum.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out the errors made by students in pronouncing diphthong “eɪ, oʊ, aɪ”. This study used a quantitative approach. To obtain valid data, the researchers administered a test that was carried out to 30 students as the sample taken from IX IPA 1 of SMA Negeri 4 Langsa. Based on the research, the data showed that one student made errors 6 times and got score 50, three students made errors 5 times and got score 58. Seven students made errors 4 times and got score 67, four students made errors 3 times and got score 75. Eight students made errors 2 times and got score 83. Six students made errors 1 time and got score 92. There was only one student who made no errors and got score 100. The cause of errors in pronouncing English diphthongs was revealed to be affected by interference of the mother tongue which is popular as the basic principle of contrastive analysis. The coming pre-service teachers were able to devise appropriate lesson plan in diphthong pronunciation teaching. In addition, it is also hoped that they can construct the suitable material for various levels and needs of learners.

A descriptive survey research design was employed, utilizing a sample of 120 public school teachers (70 female and 50 male). Data was collected using a researcher-developed instrument called the "Teachers Aggressive Behavior Survey" (TABS). The research questions were answered using descriptive statistics, including means and standard deviations, and the hypothesis was tested using t-test statistics at a significance level of 0.05. The results indicated that teachers exhibit various forms of aggressive behaviors that negatively impact student participation in academic activities. It is recommended that school administrators take steps to raise awareness among teachers about the detrimental effects of aggressive behaviors on student academic motivation.

Abstract

Prior researches regarding metacognitive awareness had been conducted but none of them analyzed particularly only to the metacognitive awareness and the senior year of university students. Thus, the aim of this study is to map metacognitive awareness skills of senior year college students at the English Language Education Department. There were 90 students who participated in this survey study. In order to assess their metacognitive awareness skills, this study employed Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) from Schraw & Dennison (1994), consisted of 52 items, divided into 8 domains: declarative knowledge, procedural knowledge, conditional knowledge, planning, information management strategies, monitoring, debugging strategies, evaluation. The data were analyzed by using a descriptive quantitative method to determine the highest and the lowest domain that represented respondents’ metacognitive awareness. The results showed that the highest metacognitive awareness skill of senior year students was planning ( = 4.02), followed by procedural knowledge (= 3.99), monitoring (= 3.91), information management strategies (= 3.88), declarative knowledge (= 3.87), evaluation ( = 3.85), debugging strategies ( = 3.83), and the lowest domain was conditional knowledge (= 3.81). The findings implied that senior year students could determine goals before starting their learning process. They knew how to achieve their goals, monitored their process, managed information, obtained knowledge, analyzed their performance, and revised their process based on analysis. However, they needed to improve their skill in selecting effective strategies based on specific circumstances.
