Abstract

The study aims to describe the implementation of task based learning in teaching speaking and students’ responses toward the use of task based learning to teaching speaking in Senior High School. The research design of the study was descriptive qualitative. It involved a video from YouTube that relate with the title of the study. The title of the video is Implementasi Kurikulum 2013 Saintifik - Bahasa Inggris SMA/MA” ( Implementation of the 2013 Scientific Curriculum - English Subject of Senior High School/MA” ) in the YouTube channel “Dunia Belajar 86”. From the video that had been observed by the researcher, it can be concluded that Task-Based Learning was highly influential in teaching speaking skills as it could be seen from students’ responses and enthusiasm in participating in the learning activities. Further, the teacher provided a lot of stimulation in the form of media and questions that made the students feel more interested in the subject being taught.

Abstract

Reading needs an appropriate strategy to get out the point of the passage effectively. This research aimed to investigate the English students’ perceptions of their reading strategies at PGRI Wiranegara University. The purpose of this research was to describe the students’ perception about reading strategies and finding the highest and the lowest scores of reading strategies. Type of this research was descriptive quantitative research. The research subjects were English students at PGRI Wiranegara University Pasuruan. In this research, the researcher used modified version of Survey of Reading Strategies (SORS) by Mokhtari and Sheorey (2002) which presented 35 statements of reading strategies, while the method of analyzing data used Likert scale and SPSS. The result of this research showed that most students were accustomed to apply reading strategies presented in the questionnaire form. Besides, this strategy “When text becomes difficult, I read slowly and carefully” was the highest score, and “I analyze the structure early to help me in understanding” was the lowest score.

Abstract

This study is to analyze the subsconcious communicative competence using argumentative reading for post-beginner student in reading class. The theory used in this study is the communicative competence theory developed by Savignon and linguistic competence developed by Canale and Swain. The method used is classroom action research. The finding of this study is improving the subsconcious communicative competence using argumentative reading. The finding of this study are expected to have not only practical significance, but to a certain degree also theoritical significance.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the Impact of Wordlist Media on Vocabulary Mastery for the students of Junior High School in Madura with the particular focus of finding new vocabularies in narrative text. This Quasi-Experimental research was implemented to examine. The Junior High School students in Madura using Wordlist Media. The results from this manipulation showed that the students through wordlist media were higher than those who were not using wordlist media. It proved that wordlist media was effective towards the students’ vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

Reading is one method of the basic learning in English skill that should be mastered by student in English. This research have been conducted in March 2020 at SMKN 01 Kamal. The researcher was expected how far student can write especially in narrative text. The researcher has found that some student bored and still difficulties in reading. This research in order to know are the use students reading skill and respond in student reading skill in narrative text. Researcher is used edmodo application in blended learning of the students reading skill in narrative text. The researcher uses data fieldnote and student interview. In this study was conducted three meeting in observation. The result of teaching learning process in the classroom can be success if almost some students can make retell of the narrative text by using blended learning in edmodo application and only a small percentage of the research in students who are still having trouble to understanding retell or the narrative text by using blended learning method. In this case, most of the students could reach the criteria of the success and suitable in the uses of the researcher as a strategy in teaching and learning in the classroom.

Abstract

Internet becomes one vital need for human because it is used for communicating with others and getting the information needed. The existence of internet cannot be separated from the role of advancement and technological sophistication. The rising need for internet has an impact on languages Danet (2001) provides an explanation of the language used in the Internet world. He states there are ten Internet Language Features; Multiple punctuation, Eccentric spelling, Capital letters, Asterisks for emphasis, Written-out laughter, Music/noise, Descriptions of actions, Emoticons, Abbreviations, and Rebus writing. This study aims to use Internet Language Features by Danet (2001) on social media users of YouTube both male and female applied in commenting on Bad Guy's Music Video by Billie Eilish. This research uses a qualitative approach and descriptive method. The results of this study indicate that both male and female commentators alike use nine out of ten internet language features. Only one feature is not used, it is the Asterisks which usually used for emphasizing feature.

Abstract

Listening is one receptive skill which represents students’ ability in understanding a language. Nowadays, media have certain rule to influence this listening skill; e- radio (ABC Newsradio Australia) becomes one effective medium to increase students’ listening skill. This article aims to investigate the effect of e-radio on listening achievement of third semester students of English department at Islamic University of Malang. Pre-experimental research is used as the research design with the pre-test and post-test as the main instrument. The result of T-test showed that there is significant effect of the using e-radio on students’ listening achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how effective the use of Canva application media is in teaching writing. This research was conducted in July-August at Mts Al-Islamiyah, Ciledug. Researchers used quantitative methods with pre-experimental methods by applying pre-test and post-test as instruments in collecting data. Researchers used one class in class IX-1 MTs Al-Islamiyah Ciledug as the population. The method in this study using the rendom sampling technique used in class IX-1. The mean score on the post test was 70.83 and the pre-test was 64.73. It also shows that the Tcal value (9,585) is higher than the Ttable (2.021), at the 5% significance level. If the result t-test is higher than t-table, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and (H0) is rejected. Based on the results of the t-test calculation above, because the positive hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, it can be concluded that the Canva Application is an effective use of media in teaching writing skills.
