Abstract

This research aims to explore the changes in the media ecosystem at TVRI Bengkulu brought about by the modification of broadcasters' roles into influencers within the context of modern media. This role transformation involves changes in how broadcasters interact with audiences and its impact on communication structures, work culture, and audience engagement in the digital world. The study employs a qualitative approach with a constructivist paradigm, utilizing in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis related to TVRI Bengkulu's programs for data collection. The findings reveal that although broadcasters at TVRI Bengkulu have started using social media to build personal branding and engage with audiences, there are no formal regulations or policies supporting the development of this role. Nevertheless, broadcasters who have transitioned into influencers have successfully expanded their reach, particularly among the younger generation who are more active on social media. This transformation has impacted the media ecosystem at TVRI Bengkulu in terms of social interaction, content management, and shifts in work culture within the broadcasting organization. This study is expected to provide deeper insights into how the transformation of broadcasters into influencers influences the sustainability and relevance of broadcasting institutions in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate development strategies to optimize social media use in supporting the student admission process at Universitas Muhammadiyah Bengkulu (UMB). Using a mixed-methods approach, quantitative data were gathered from 100 respondents via online questionnaires, while qualitative data were obtained from 16 purposively selected informants through interviews. The analysis employed SWOT, IFE (Internal Factor Evaluation), and EFE (External Factor Evaluation) frameworks. Results identified 12 strategies classified into SO, WO, ST, and WT categories. With an IFE score of 2.79 and an EFE score of 2.64, UMB falls into Quadrant V, indicating a "hold and maintain" position. The recommended strategies align with the 4P marketing mix: promotion through active and targeted social media campaigns, product represented by engaging and relevant digital content, place by utilizing accessible online platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, and price reflected in cost-efficiency by leveraging student involvement and influencers instead of high-budget marketing. These strategies aim to increase visibility, build a strong institutional image, and enhance UMB’s competitiveness in attracting prospective students.

Abstract

This research aims to understand how cancel culture functions as a mechanism for symbolic silencing of public figures in the digital space, focusing on the Gus Miftah case in the dynamics of public opinion on Indonesian social media. Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann's Spiral of Silence theory is used to explain the tendency of individuals to choose silence when their opinions conflict with the majority opinion, as well as how the dominance of certain opinions creates a repressive social climate against diversity of views. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation of social media content, especially Instagram, literature studies, and digital documentation of public narratives that developed during the viral period of the Gus Miftah case. The results showed that cancel culture against Gus Miftah was not only a spontaneous criticism, but also an organized process that formed collective social pressure. When negative opinions dominate, supporters or parties with different views tend to remain silent, showing the spiral of silence mechanism in action. As a result, symbolic silencing occurs, where public figures lose legitimacy without space for open dialogue. This research emphasizes the importance of maintaining diversity of opinion in the digital space so that freedom of expression is preserved.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze how political messages are constructed, disseminated, and responded to by audiences on the dynamic TikTok platform. Using a qualitative approach and an in-depth single-case study design, this research focuses on a comprehensive analysis of video content and public interactions occurring on the @helmihasanchannel account. Primary data was collected through participant observation and online document studies, including video transcriptions and screen recordings of user comments. The research, using Todd Gitlin's Framing theory, shows that @helmihasanchannel successfully leveraged TikTok's unique characteristics to create an emotional connection with the public. This is evident in its use of a relaxed communication style and everyday narratives. The uploaded content covers issues of infrastructure development and social assistance, which significantly stimulated public responses in the form of comments and likes. The use of TikTok features such as background music, filters, effects, duets, and stitching also increased the content's appeal. Content framing strategies were used to build positive perceptions, such as showcasing road construction as evidence of tangible performance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the semantic meaning contained in the lyrics of the song “O Tuan” by the band Feast using Geoffrey Leech's semantic theory. This study specifically identifies the types of semantic meaning found in the lyrics and analyzes how these meanings contribute to the delivery of spiritual and emotional messages to listeners. The theory used in this study is Geoffrey Leech's semantic theory, which divides meaning into seven types, namely: conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, stylistic meaning, affective meaning, reflected meaning, collocative meaning, and thematic meaning. Leech's theory was chosen because of its comprehensiveness in analyzing various dimensions of meaning in texts, especially expressive texts such as song lyrics. Descriptive qualitative method with content analysis approach. The research data consisted of the lyrics of the song “O Tuan,” which were analyzed using semantic analysis techniques based on Leech's classification of meaning. Data collection techniques were carried out through documentation and observation of the song lyrics, while data analysis techniques used interpretive descriptive analysis with the stages of identification, classification, and interpretation of semantic meaning. The results of the study show that the lyrics of the song “O Tuan” by Feast contain various types of semantic meanings according to Leech's classification. Conceptual meanings are found in the use of words that refer to the concepts of divinity and spirituality. Connotative meanings are seen in the choice of dictionary.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social interaction and interpersonal communication patterns of mothers receiving the Family Hope Program (PKH) at the Creative Berseri Waste Bank in Lempuing Village, and to understand how these interactions and communications shape social capital, identity construction, and power dynamics within the community. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive interpretive research type. Data collection techniques include participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Informants were selected using purposive sampling consisting of waste bank administrators and members with varying levels of involvement. Data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman model through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions with verification. The results of the study indicate that social interactions in the waste bank are manifested in associative forms including cooperation, accommodation, and assimilation that create mechanical solidarity based on collective awareness as fellow PKH recipients.but also creates a peaceful and prosperous society. Behind the seemingly egalitarian communication lies a power dynamic at work through disciplinary power and governmentality, where members voluntarily discipline themselves according to standards of economic efficiency. Waste banks create a new social structure with stratification based on a combination of economic dimensions, social status, and organizational power, and provide a mechanism for achievement-based vertical social mobility, albeit limited to the micro-community scale.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the meaning of emotional communication in the animated short film Pupus – Cangkir Profesor through the analysis of symbolic elements and intergenerational relationships. The research focuses on how visual symbols, particularly the cup, function as a medium to convey emotional bonds, memories, and values between characters of different generations. The method used is a qualitative approach with semiotic analysis, applying Roland Barthes’ framework to interpret the denotative, connotative, and mythical levels of meaning in selected scenes from the animation. Data were obtained by observing and documenting key visual moments, then analyzed to uncover the layered meanings embedded in the narrative and visual cues. The findings reveal that the cup symbol carries significant sentimental value, representing love, remembrance, and emotional continuity between the younger and older characters. It also reflects cultural values of respect, care, and the transmission of wisdom across generations. The study concludes that visual symbols in animated storytelling can serve as powerful tools to evoke empathy, strengthen emotional engagement, and preserve intergenerational connections, making them effective in both artistic and communicative contexts.

Abstract

This study analyzes how the film Parasite depicts structural poverty through the denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings contained in each scene. At the denotative level, the film displays literal visual elements such as the Kim family's subterranean semi-basement, with dim, yellowish lighting, in stark contrast to the Park family's bright, modern, luxurious home. The connotative level reveals symbolic meanings where the semi-basement represents social decline and the vulnerability of the lower class, while the staircase motif connotes a metaphor for fragile social mobility and the cycle of poverty that is difficult to break. At the mythical level, the film dismantles capitalist ideology that naturalizes poverty as a "natural" consequence of social hierarchy. Using qualitative research methods and Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis techniques, researchers collected data through observation and documentation, and validated the data using triangulation. The results of the study using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory revealed that the visualization of poverty in the film clearly reflects structural poverty-a condition in which certain groups of people cannot access sources of income due to unfair social structures. This concept is reinforced by the Theory of Social Democracy which emphasizes that poverty is a systemic problem, not just the result of individual failure.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze personal branding through the Instagram account @samikn_ belonging to a University of Indonesia student from Bengkulu by utilizing the InstaStory feature. Using Peter Montoya's (2003) personal branding theory and McNally's (2012) personal brand characteristics, this study applies a descriptive qualitative approach through content analysis of InstaStory publications over a certain period of time. Semi-structured interviews and documentation analysis are also used as supporting data. The results show that @samikn_ has successfully implemented Montoya's eight personal branding principles, including activeness in organizations (The Law of Specialization), leadership in public speaking and preserving Bengkulu culture (The Law of Leadership), and authentic personality in motivation and a healthy lifestyle (The Law of Personality). In addition, he emphasizes uniqueness through volunteer activities (The Law of Distinctiveness), maintains visibility through consistent uploads (The Law of Visibility), combines personal values ??with the built image (The Law of Unity), demonstrates persistence in communication (The Law of Persistence), and has a positive impact on the environment (The Law of Goodwill). @samikn_'s personal brand also meets McNally's criteria: unique, relevant to the younger generation, and consistent.

Abstract

Islamic philanthropy has undergone significant transformation in the digital era, presenting new opportunities and challenges in building public trust. This study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining a quantitative survey of 100 donors to the National Azan Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) in Bandar Lampung City with in-depth interviews with 15 participants. The quantitative analysis included linear regression, while the qualitative data were analyzed thematically. Secondary data from BAZNAS reports and policy documents were also used to enrich the analysis. This study aimed to analyze the perceptions and levels of trust among urban Muslims in digital Islamic philanthropy management, identify challenges, and identify influencing factors. The results showed that levels of trust in digital Islamic philanthropy management varied based on donor age. Younger donors (18-35 years old) tended to trust digital platforms more, while older donors (>50 years old) preferred traditional methods. Other factors influencing trust include education level, digital literacy, and previous experience with philanthropic institutions. Financial transparency, platform ease of use, and the institution's reputation are also key factors in building trust. Bridging the digital divide between generations, increasing digital literacy among senior donors, and ensuring data security are particular challenges for institutions. Philanthropic institutions need to adopt a multi-channel strategy that accommodates the preferences of various age groups while maintaining Sharia principles.
