Abstract

This study analyzes workload and determines the optimal number of workers on the pond machine production line at UD. XYZ  using Workload Analysis (WLA) method and stopwatch time study. Data were collected through direct observation of 7 workers with 24 observations per work station during July-November 2025. The results show significant workload imbalance: the blade board manufacturing station experienced 446% overload, pond processes for Ivory 310, Duplex 350, and Duplex 310 were 185%, 191%, and 192% respectively, while plano paper cutting, QC cleaning, and packaging stations experienced underload below 75%. Standard time for pond processes ranged from 7.79-8.01 minutes. The study recommends adding 3 workers (total 10 people) with optimal redistribution to reduce workload to 46-111%, saving operational costs of Rp 10,368,000 per month (27%) while increasing productivity to achieve the target of 2,000 units per day.

Abstract

Quality control is a crucial aspect of the manufacturing industry to ensure that the products produced meet quality standards and customer requirements. CV. XYZ, as a company engaged in the production of car seat covers, faces the problem of a high product defect rate, which results in increased rework costs, longer production time, and customer dissatisfaction. Based on preliminary data, a total of 214 defective units were recorded during the period from March to August out of a total production of 774 units. The three dominant types of defects include uneven stitching, peeling stitches, and material tearing or peeling. Therefore, this study applies the Seven Tools approach to analyze the factors causing defects and to provide improvement recommendations in order to reduce the product defect rate.

Abstract

Research on charcoal briquette MSMEs in Gedangan District, Sidoarjo Regency, still faces production efficiency issues due to approximately 30% of raw materials being wasted, limited molding capacity, less uniform briquette results, and less ergonomic and safe tool design. This study aims to develop a charcoal briquette molding tool based on an anthropometric approach and investment feasibility analysis. The anthropometric approach is used to improve operator comfort, safety, and work efficiency, while the investment analysis assesses the economic feasibility of the tool. The development results are expected to increase productivity, reduce waste, reduce production costs, and increase the competitiveness of MSMEs through the application of appropriate biomass-based technology.

Abstract

Productivity is one of the key factors in enhancing industrial competitiveness, particularly in the furniture manufacturing sector. This study aims to analyze the types and sources of waste occurring in the production process at UD. Sinar Indah and to formulate improvement strategies to increase productivity. The research applies the lean manufacturing approach by identifying the seven types of waste commonly found in production activities. Data were collected through direct observation on the shop floor, interviews with employees, and process time recording. The findings indicate that the most dominant wastes are waiting time and inefficient movements, which significantly affect productivity levels. Recommended improvements include workplace layout rearrangement, standardization of procedures, and enhancement of operator skills. By implementing these improvements, UD. Sinar Indah has the potential to increase productivity while reducing production costs.

Abstract

This study analyzes physical workload and work-time efficiency in the tofu production process at UD Asal Lancar, where operations are still performed manually. A total of 12 production workers were included as research samples. Physical workload was measured using the Cardiovascular Load (CVL) method, work-time efficiency was evaluated through the Work Sampling method, and the optimal number of workers was determined using Work Load Analysis (WLA). The results show that the highest workload occurred in Worker 7, who recorded a CVL value of 53%, categorized as a heavy workload, while other workers fell into light to moderate categories. Work-time efficiency was found to be 84%, lower than the standard due to reduced effective working time caused by unproductive activities. The study recommends task redistribution, implementation of regular micro-breaks, and additional manpower in certain stages to balance workloads and improve work efficiency.

Abstract

This study aims to reduce the defect rate in the production process of granule phosphate and potassium fertilizers at PT X, which includes undersize, oversize, and misshapen product defects. The PDCA method was employed as a quality improvement approach through the stages of Plan, Do, Check, and Action. Pareto Analysis, Histogram, and Fishbone Diagram were used to identify dominant defect types and determine their root causes, while corrective actions were focused on establishing new Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), providing operator training, and adding quality inspection checkpoints at each production stage. The results show a significant reduction in the average phosphate defect from 802 kg to 319 kg, successfully maintaining quality within control limits, and improved consistency in potassium fertilizer quality. This study recommends the implementation of continuous quality monitoring at every process stage to ensure high-quality products.

Abstract

The development of production needs at CV. Berdikari requires the company to have optimal work capacity to meet market demand. However, actual conditions show a high workload and overtime hours in the production department. This study aims to analyze the level of work activity, measure the workload, determine optimal labor requirements, and evaluate alternatives for fulfilling work capacity. The Work Sampling method was used to randomly observe worker activities to obtain the proportion of productive, indirect, and non-productive time. The results showed that productive activity was in the high category, reflecting good work efficiency. However, the total overtime hours from January to June 2025 reached 2,339 hours, indicating that regular labor capacity was inadequate. Based on standard time calculations, the optimal labor requirement is 3–4 people.

Abstract

PT ABC is a company operating in the manufacturing sector, specifically in the production of semi-finished processed wood, implementing a make-to-order production system. Currently, the company faces several challenges in warehouse management, where the storage area for finished goods is still mixed with raw materials and production areas. This situation is further exacerbated by the stacking arrangement of materials not meeting standards, resulting in inefficient use of space and difficulties in the retrieval process. This study aims to redesign the layout of PT ABC's warehouse using the Shared Storage Location method. This method is designed to allocate storage space flexibly to more effectively separate raw material and finished goods storage areas. The main focus of this design is to optimize storage capacity and minimize material handling distances. With the implementation of the new layout, it is expected that the company can reduce operational time.

Abstract

The increasing demand for glass cabinets at CV. Nanda Jaya has intensified the workload on the production line, leading to inefficiencies such as delays in order completion and potential worker fatigue. This study aims to analyze workload and determine the optimal number of workers at each workstation using the Work-Load Analysis (WLA) method. Data collection was conducted through direct observation, work-time measurement, heart rate monitoring using the Heart Rate Reserve (HRR) method, and uniformity and adequacy tests. The results indicate an imbalance in workload distribution, with the assembly station recording the highest standard time of 126.60 seconds, making it the primary bottleneck in the production process.
