Abstract

This study aims to determine the optimal number of workers at PT Mujiarto Putri Kembar Sejahtera to meet the increasing demand for rice production. The methods employed include work sampling, data uniformity and adequacy tests, performance rating, normal and standard time calculations, and Work Load Analysis (WLA). The results reveal that most work elements operate within reasonable workload limits, but the packaging section experiences excessive workload of up to 110%, leading to production delays and unmet demand. Based on the WLA results, one additional worker is required in the packaging section, raising the optimal workforce to 18 employees. This adjustment is expected to improve production capacity and balance workload distribution across workstations.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the most suitable country of origin for Indonesia’s machinery imports by analyzing import data from 2018 to 2024 using the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method. Secondary data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) include import volume, CIF value, logistics costs, trade stability, and import growth. The analysis process consists of constructing the decision matrix, normalizing the data, assigning criterion weights, determining ideal solutions, and calculating preference values for each alternative country. The results indicate that China is the most optimal source of machinery imports, achieving the highest preference score due to its dominance in volume, economic value, supply consistency, and trade growth. South Korea and the “Others” category follow as strategic alternatives. Overall, the TOPSIS method proves effective in providing objective and measurable support for multi-criteria decision-making related to selecting import partner countries.

Abstract

UD. Mawar is a small-scale cracker manufacturing enterprise located in Menganti, Gresik, which requires efficient material flow to support its daily production activities. However, the existing facility layout presents inefficiencies such as long travel distances, backtracking, and suboptimal space utilization, resulting in increased transfer time, high material handling costs, and reduced productivity. This study aims to redesign the production layout using Activity Relationship Chart (ARC), Activity Relationship Diagram (ARD), supported by simulation modeling with FlexSim 2019. Findings show that the proposed U-Flow layout reduces monthly material travel distance from 11,616 m to 4,800 m (58.7%), decreases transfer time from 100.17 to 88.33 minutes (11.8%), and lowers handling costs from IDR 363,000 to IDR 150,000 (58.7%). Productivity increases from 239.5 to 271.7 kg/hour (13.4%). The redesigned layout is recommended to enhance operational efficiency.

Abstract

This study maps development priorities for rail freight in Indonesia based on the spatial distribution of freight volume by major island groups. A descriptive quantitative approach was applied using secondary data on rail freight volume (thousand tons) across five island groups. The analysis includes volume tabulation, share calculations, Java-to-other regions dominance ratios, and a Java versus non-Java aggregate comparison. Results indicate a total of 33.0 million tons, dominated by Java at 18.5 million tons (56.06%), followed by Sumatra 7.2 (21.82%), Kalimantan 4.1 (12.42%), Sulawesi 2.3 (6.97%), and Bali–Nusa Tenggara 0.9 (2.73%). The dominance ratio of Java reaches 20.56 over Bali–Nusa Tenggara and 8.04 over Sulawesi, while non-Java accounts for 43.94% (14.5 million tons). These findings support prioritizing rail freight development outside Java through strengthened logistics nodes and intermodal integration.

Abstract

Soybeans are an important food ingredient in Indonesia and are the main ingredient in making tempeh. Mr. Mahmudi's tempeh MSME in Sidoarjo has difficulty meeting market demand because the soybean peeling process is still done manually, resulting in slow production and less than optimal results. This study aims to design a more efficient soybean peeling machine and measure productivity increases after its implementation. The design process was carried out through literature studies, field observations, interviews, and data analysis, including worker anthropometric data to ensure the machine is ergonomic and safe to use. Test results showed that the machine was able to peel 8 kg of soybeans in 1 minute 9 seconds, much faster than the manual method which requires 8 minutes 23 seconds. Productivity increased by 628.9%, proving that this machine can significantly improve the efficiency, consistency, and production capacity of MSMEs.

Abstract

PT. WKU is a manufacturing company that produces various types of packaging boxes using both a custom-made production system and a make-to-stock approach for certain products such as safety boxes. The company’s operational activities rely heavily on the availability of raw materials, primarily corrugated board, kraft liner, duplex board, and white kraft. The raw material warehouse, which has dimensions of 65 × 63,5 meters, is currently not optimally arranged. Pallet spacing is too narrow, causing inefficiencies in material retrieval because workers must move other pallets to access materials located at the back. This study aims to design a more effective warehouse layout using the ABC classification method based on movement frequency and a dedicated storage system. Inbound and outbound movement data were analyzed to calculate the frequency of material movement, which was then classified using the Pareto principle to determine storage priority levels. The results show that Duplex Board, Corrugated Board Single Wall 6 mm, and Kraft Liner fall into Class A, indicating the highest movement frequency.

Abstract

This study analyzes the mental and physical workload of employees at Sedjagad36 Restaurant using the NASA-TLX and Cardiovascular Load (CVL) methods. Fourteen employees from barista, kitchen, and waiter divisions participated in the study. The results show that 42.9% of employees experience a high mental workload, while 57.1% fall under the moderate category. Temporal Demand and Effort are the most dominant indicators, indicating pressure from time constraints and exertion. Physical workload measured through CVL falls into the light category, yet it increases significantly during weekends due to higher customer volume. Observational findings also show that operational SOPs and long shifts contribute to both mental and physical workloads. Recommendations include shift adjustments, job rotation, and workload management improvements to reduce fatigue.

Abstract

This research aims to optimize the utilization of raw materials in the exhaust production process at PT Elysium Autotech Surabaya. The main issue faced by the company is the excessive leftover cuts of stainless-steel pipes and plates, which cannot be reused due to mismatched dimensions. These material wastes contribute to increased production costs and reduced efficiency. By analyzing material specifications, product structure, Bill of Materials (BoM), and current cutting techniques, this study identifies critical points where raw material inefficiencies occur, particularly in the cutting process for downpipe and frontpipe components. The results indicate that leftover pipe cuts from the frontpipe production can be repurposed for downpipe manufacturing, reducing the need for new raw materials. The implementation of optimized cutting patterns leads to substantial cost savings, reaching Rp41,250,000 per month for Fortuner exhaust production and Rp75,000,000 per month for Kijang Innova. This optimization significantly enhances material efficiency and reduces overall production costs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the optimization of work process time in the welding division using the Critical Path Method (CPM). This method is used to identify the critical path and calculate the slack variable for each production activity. The data used are the sequence of activities, dependency relationships, and production process time in 2024. The analysis process is carried out through the preparation of a network diagram, forward pass and backward pass calculations, and determining the slack value. The results show that the critical path is found in the series of activities A–B–C–D–E–F–G–H with a total duration of 17 minutes. All activities have a slack value of 0, so any delay has the potential to delay the entire process. These findings confirm that the production process in the welding division has been running optimally. The company is advised to maintain the existing work pattern and ensure the appropriate duration of each activity to maintain production efficiency.
