Abstract

The steel casting industry plays an important role in supporting the transportation and infrastructure sectors; however, this process often encounters product defects that lead to decreased quality and increased rework costs. PT Barata Indonesia, as a manufacturer of railway components such as side frames and bolsters, still experiences a high defect rate averaging 23.16%, with cracks and porosity as the dominant defects. This study aims to analyze the quality control of steel casting products, specifically side frame and bolster components, using the Seven Tools of Quality Control as a means to identify and improve production defects. Data were obtained through field observations, interviews, and Quality Control reports from March to August 2025. The analysis utilized check sheets, Pareto charts, and fishbone diagrams to identify dominant defect types and their root causes. The results indicate that work methods, machine conditions, and material quality are the main causes. Recommendations focus on controlling pouring temperature, improving operator discipline, and conducting regular equipment maintenance.

Abstract

The increasing activity of container handling in depots requires improvements in service efficiency, particularly in inbound and outbound processes that often experience long truck queues. PT Seacon Bintang Sejahtera Surabaya faces delays that exceed its Key Performance Indicator (KPI) of 35 minutes. This study aims to analyze the performance of the queueing system and propose improvements to minimize service time using Arena simulation software. Primary data were obtained through direct observation, including truck arrival times, service start times, and service durations. The simulation model was validated to match real operational conditions, followed by testing several improvement scenarios such as additional servers and optimized service flow. The simulation results indicate that the proposed scenarios significantly reduce waiting times compared to the existing system, providing a basis for improving operational performance in container depot services

Abstract

UMKM Sambal in Surabaya produces chili sauce using semi-manual processes and still faces problems related to high workload, unstable processing time, and unbalanced task distribution. This study aims to analyze physical workload, determine standard time, and evaluate labor requirements in the production process. The methods used include Cardiovascular Load (CVL), Stopwatch Time Study, and Workload Analysis (WLA). The CVL results show that the highest level of physical fatigue occurs in the cooking process. Time study results indicate that the standard output is determined by the process with the minimum production capacity, namely the cooking process as the production bottleneck. The WLA analysis on the cooking process shows a workload exceeding 100%, indicating an overload condition. Therefore, this study recommends optimizing task allocation and improving labor utilization to enhance productivity, efficiency, and production stability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and design the facility layout of Dev Bakery & Pizza to improve operational efficiency and space utilization. The research applies the Activity Relationship Chart (ARC) method to identify the level of inter-area relationships and the Total Closeness Rating (TCR) to determine the priority of operational connections between facilities. Based on the result, the dining area and product shelf obtained the highest TCR values, indicating their crucial role as central activity zones that support smooth workflow. An optimized layout design can enhance spatial efficiency, streamline material and labor movement, and strengthen interactions between employees and customers, thereby improving overall operational effectiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze inventory control for raw materials at Lini Kopi Surabaya by applying the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ), Period Order Quantity (POQ), and ABC Analysis methods. The study uses historical purchasing and usage data from May 2024 to April 2025. The research process includes data collection, material classification using ABC analysis, and calculation of economic order quantities, safety stock, reorder points, order frequency, and total inventory costs using EOQ and POQ methods. Results show that several materials fall into Category A and require stricter control. EOQ and POQ methods provide more efficient inventory costs compared to the company's current method. This study recommends the best method to reduce stockout risks and improve overall cost efficiency.

Abstract

CV. XYZ is a manufacturing company in East Java that produces various types of concrete, including concrete roof tiles. The contract work system with half-day work hours often causes production targets to be missed, especially for workers who excuse themselves due to illness. This condition has an a impact on increasing the pysical and mental workload using a cardiovascular load (CVL) method and the mental workload using NASA-TLX. The results show that worker 3 at the roof tile printing station 1 had that highest %CVL value, namely 70,53%, and decreased to 59,25% after improvements were made. Meanwhile, worker 4 at the roof tile printing station 2 obtained the highest NASA-TLX score of 80,33, which then decreased to 72,33. This study recommends increasing discipline in the use of PPE and placing workers according to age to improve working conditions.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the optimal location of Electric Vehicle Public Charging Stations (SPKLU) in Mojokerto City using the Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) method. The research is motivated by the increasing number of electric vehicles in Mojokerto, which is not yet supported by adequate charging infrastructure. The data used include the distribution of EV users, potential charging station locations, distance matrices, service capacity, and construction cost estimates. The MILP model is formulated to minimize the total construction and operational costs while maximizing service coverage. The results identify three strategic optimal locations based on proximity to demand clusters and cost efficiency. The findings provide practical recommendations for local governments and PLN to develop sustainable EV charging infrastructure in Mojokerto City.

Abstract

Facility layout efficiency is pivotal for the operational performance of PT Lembur Hejo’s hydroponic agribusiness. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the existing layout to identify workflow inefficiencies using a descriptive quantitative approach. Utilizing the Activity Relationship Chart (ARC) and Total Closeness Rating (TCR), functional relationships were mapped and prioritized. The results stratified facilities into three clusters: core production (TCR 176) as the highest priority, followed by employee support (TCR 80), and administrative facilities. While the analysis validated the efficiency of the production zone, it revealed a significant spatial dissonance regarding support facilities (office, dormitory, restrooms), which are currently misaligned with their functional priorities. Conclusively, this study demonstrates the efficacy of ARC/TCR in detecting latent inefficiencies beyond the core production area.

Abstract

Occupational safety is a crucial factor in maintaining operational continuity and employee well-being, particularly within the high-risk oil and gas industry. This study aims to evaluate the safety climate at PT Pertamina (Persero) Integrated Terminal Bitung using the Nordic Occupational Safety Climate Questionnaire (NOSACQ-50) instrument. A quantitative research approach with a survey design was employed, involving 79 respondents. Data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney and Kruskal–Wallis tests to assess differences in perception among groups based on education level and length of employment. The results indicate that five out of seven safety climate dimensions fall within the “good” category, namely management commitment and competence in safety (3.49), management justice (3.32), worker commitment (3.25), learning, communication, and trust (3.34), and trust in the effectiveness of the safety system (3.33). The remaining two dimensions are categorized as “fair,” which include management safety empowerment (2.94) and safety priority and non-tolerance of risk (2.73).

Abstract

This study analyses the performance of the Heater Treater in breaking down oil-water emulsions at the Dep Field Gathering Station. The methods used include field observations, operational data analysis, and documentation studies to evaluate the effectiveness of the two-stage separation process. The results show that the Heater Treater operates optimally at a temperature range of 100-160°F through a combination of thermal heating and electrostatic separation. The electrostatic system proved to be effective in coagulating residual water droplets in the oil phase, while the Level Control Valve played a crucial role in preventing excess water in the oil bucket, which had been set to determine how much water would cause the valve to open automatically. The indicator light on the transformer serves as a marker; if an excess has reached the cathode anode, the indicator light will turn off. This study concludes that the integration of thermal and electrostatic processes in the Heater Treater is an effective solution for handling heavy oil emulsions in production facilities.
