Abstract

This research was conducted at PT X which experienced non-achievement of production targets during the period November 2023 to February 2024. The purpose of the research is to identify the root causes of target non-achievement and design solutions. The method used is Root Cause Analysis (RCA) with Fishbone Diagram and 5 Whys Analysis tools, to evaluate the causes of various aspects of production. The data analyzed included production data and machine breakdown data during the period. The analysis found 15 root causes originating from four main aspects, namely machines, people, methods, and materials. The machine factor was the dominant cause with a contribution of 40%. To formulate a solution, the TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) approach was used, which offers a systematic and innovative way. TRIZ derives 14 principles that emphasize the importance of adaptive and predictive systems to prevent errors in the first place, rather than adding resources. The integration of RCA and TRIZ proved effective in generating comprehensive solutions to complex production problems.

Abstract

UD Yurike, a furniture company in Surabaya, the production process in this company is constrained by the absence of a standard time to complete one unit of plate rack. This led to the absence of a target number of units to be completed by each worker per day. This condition has an impact on the difficulty of achieving targets in the midst of fluctuating demand and the manual assembly process. The purpose of this research is to understand the standard time to complete one unit of plate rack and the labor requirements per division using the Stopwatch Time Study method. The results of data processing show that the amount of standard time needed to complete one unit of plate rack is 1967.11 seconds (equivalent to 32.79 minutes), with additional labor requirements for the pipe frame coloring division to 2 workers and wire frame coloring to 4 workers and other.

Abstract

Determining the ideal vehicle rental service rate is crucial for maintaining the sustainability and profitability of a transportation business. This study aims to compare the existing rates with the ideal rates based on the calculation of Vehicle Operating Costs (BOK) and Break Even Point (BEP) analysis. The method used is a quantitative approach with a case study on a fleet of chemical tanker trucks. The analysis results show that the current existing rates are lower than the ideal rates calculated based on BOK plus a profit margin. The case study demonstrates that by using the ideal rates, the company can reach the break-even point (BEP) faster. In this study, the S-H200 fleet with an ideal rate of IDR 3,192,540 reaches BEP at 147 trips per year compared to the rate of IDR 2,800,000 requiring 177 trips per year. Similarly, the U-H202 fleet reaches BEP at 143 trips per year with a rate of IDR 3,461,929, compared to 199 trips per year with the rate of IDR 2,800,000. This means that using the ideal rates accelerates the recovery of the fleet investment costs.

Abstract

PT. HTI is an e-bike distributor that experiences constraints in warehouse layout efficiency, such as irregular placement of goods and long search times. This study aims to design a space arrangement strategy based on the frequency of goods movement, as well as to improve the warehouse layout. The Class-Based Storage method is used in product grouping. The results of the study show that redesigning the warehouse layout improves the efficiency of space use based on demand levels (classifications A, B, C). Significant changes are seen on the 1st floor of the main warehouse, which was previously dominated by classes B and C, now allocated for class A goods. The implementation of this strategy has been shown to speed up the goods retrieval process and improve overall operational efficiency.

Abstract

PT XYZ is a manufacturing company headquartered in Surabaya that produces plastic‑based products, particularly water storage tanks. PT BIS occasionally encounters both excess raw‑material inventory (overstock) and shortages (stockouts) of its primary tank materials namely first‑layer and second‑layer plastic pellets while in certain months the third‑layer pellets accumulate in surplus. To resolve these issues, the company applied the CRS method to optimize raw‑material inventory levels, preventing stockouts and ensuring real‑time fulfillment of product demand. Using CRS, the optimal purchase quantities were determined to be 7.002 kg for layer 1, 6.398 kg for layer 2, and 5.453 kg for layer 3, at a total cost of IDR 25.266.957 down from the previous cost of IDR 29.997.842. By incorporating safety stock and reorder‑point calculations, the CRS method prevented stockouts and reduced inventory expenses by approximately IDR 4.731.000.
