Abstract

This study aims to analyze the discourse network (Discourse Network Analysis) in news coverage related to the evacuation of 1,000 Gaza residents by Prabowo on the online media portal Kompas.com during the period of April 11-22, 2025. This research uses 16 news articles containing 67 statements, consisting of two categories, namely news information and decisions to be followed up. In these news reports, there are 21 actors from 18 organizations involved, with 38 supportive (pro) statements and 29 opposing (contra) statements. The Agenda Setting theory approach is used to understand how the media shapes public attention through interactions between actors and organizations in building an agenda concerning the evacuation. The results show a complex discourse network pattern with varying positions of support and opposition, depicting the media's influence in setting the agenda for humanitarian issues and policy decisions. This study helps explain the role of media in shaping public opinion and influencing decision-making processes in the public sphere.

Abstract

Electronic Word of Mouth (e-wom) refers to a marketing communication approach that involves the dissemination of recommendations for goods and services through social media or e-commerce platforms. The objective is to exert influence on prospective shoppers by directly perusing reviews of purchasers' experiences. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of e-wom on the purchasing decisions of millennials in the Solo Raya region when it comes to fashion products available on the Shopee Marketplace. This research makes a significant contribution to the advancement of e-commerce in the fashion industry, particularly by enhancing our understanding of how customer behaviour is influenced by reviews. A total of 155 respondents were surveyed using questionnaire. The independent variables used to assess e-wom include intensity, positive valence, and content. The dependent variable indicators (Y) used to assess purchasing decisions include product selection, brand selection, purchase timing, purchase quantity, and payment method. The research finding indicates that e-wom has a substantial and favourable impact on the decision-making process when it comes to purchasing fashion products from Shopee. The three e-wom indicators collectively serve as the foundation for decision-making when purchasing items on Shopee.

Abstract

Local media play a strategic role in sustaining the quality of democracy at the regional level, yet they increasingly face complex economic and political pressures. This study examines how local media in West Sumatra—specifically Langgam.id and Harian Haluan—negotiate journalistic idealism, professionalism, and commercialism in editorial policies and political news production. Employing a qualitative approach with a comparative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with editors and journalists, limited newsroom observations, and document and content analysis. Informants were selected purposively based on their direct involvement in editorial decision-making and media business operations. The findings reveal that both media organizations normatively uphold values of independence, public interest, and journalistic professionalism. However, in practice, these values are continuously negotiated under economic constraints, particularly the limited scale of the local advertising market and dependence on political advertising. Political coverage tends to be dominated by elite actors, with indications of editorial compromise in the form of soft-selling practices. While the digital-native outlet demonstrates greater technical adaptability than the legacy media, both face similar structural pressures that shape editorial autonomy. This study concludes that local media practices are best understood as the outcome of a dynamic interaction between journalistic idealism, commercial imperatives, and professional norms. Theoretically, this research contributes to local journalism studies by proposing a conceptual model of negotiated journalism within the political–economic context of regional media in Indonesia.
