Abstract

This study aims to analyze the story of Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1–10 to identify theological principles of spiritual thirst as the meeting point between human longing and divine initiative, as well as its relevance for Society 5.0. A qualitative descriptive analytical method was employed, involving exegetical analysis of the Greek text, historical cultural study, and review of practical theology literature. The findings reveal that spiritual thirst drives active seeking, overcomes social and cultural barriers, and prepares the heart to respond to God’s orchestrated kairos moments. This study affirms that God’s grace is not constrained by social judgment, and sincere human pursuit becomes a vessel for His saving work. In the context of Society 5.0, this model offers a practical theological framework for the church to facilitate transformative spiritual encounters by integrating technology use with deep spiritual formation.

Abstract

This article investigates the role and impact of peer leadership within the context of Christian Religious Education (CRE) for adolescents and young people. Peer leadership is defined as the positive influence exercised by an individual within a peer group who has been recognised and empowered to lead. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method, drawing on literature review and conceptual analysis of relevant theological and pedagogical frameworks. The findings indicate that peer leadership is highly effective due to relational proximity, experiential relevance, and credibility among peers. Its implementation in CRE enhances active participation, facilitates the internalisation of Christian values, and supports holistic character formation. It is therefore concluded that churches and Christian educational institutions should integrate and strengthen this model of leadership as a core strategy in nurturing the younger generation.   Artikel ini menyelidiki peran dan dampak kepemimpinan sahabat (peer leadership) dalam konteks Pendidikan Agama Kristen (PAK) untuk remaja dan pemuda. Kepemimpinan sahabat didefinisikan sebagai pengaruh positif yang diberikan oleh seorang individu dalam kelompok sebaya yang telah diakui dan diberdayakan untuk memimpin. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif, mengumpulkan data melalui studi literatur dan analisis konsep teologis serta pedagogis terkait. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa kepemimpinan sahabat sangat efektif karena faktor kedekatan relasional, relevansi pengalaman, dan kredibilitas di mata kelompok sebaya. Implementasi kepemimpinan sahabat dalam PAK dapat meningkatkan partisipasi aktif, internalisasi nilai-nilai kristiani, dan pengembangan karakter holistik. Disimpulkan bahwa gereja dan lembaga pendidikan Kristen perlu mengintegrasikan dan memperkuat model kepemimpinan ini sebagai strategi inti dalam pembinaan generasi muda.

Abstract

This article examines the theological significance of the Hebrew term שָׁבָה (shavah) in the Book of Ruth, particularly in Ruth 1:22 and Ruth 2:6, where it is uniquely attributed to Ruth. Lexically, the root שׁוּב (shuv), from which שָׁבָה is derived, generally denotes “to return” and is typically used for a subject returning to a place of origin. However, within the narrative, its application to Ruth, a Moabite woman who does not geographically originate from Bethlehem, creates a semantic tension that invites deeper theological reflection. This study employs a qualitative method with a biblical exegetical approach to analyse the lexical function, narrative context, and theological implications of the term. The findings indicate that the designation of Ruth as הַשָׁבָה does not merely describe geographical movement, but reflects a transformation of identity and faith. The term situates Ruth within Naomi’s process of “return,” while expanding its meaning into an existential and theological act. Furthermore, Moab’s genealogical connection to Israel reinforces the view that Ruth’s action represents reintegration into the community of God’s people.

Abstract

Forgiveness is a central teaching of Christianity, but its practice often faces challenges due to interpersonal conflict, retaliation, and the phenomenon of cancel culture. Therefore, an examination of Matthew 18:21–22 is crucial for understanding the meaning of forgiveness in Jesus' teachings and its relevance for the church today. This research uses qualitative methods with a biblical approach through historical-contextual and linguistic analysis of the text of Matthew 18:21–22. The results show that forgiveness is not merely a moral requirement, but a relational principle aimed at restoring community and building reconciliation. The phrase "seventy times seven" emphasizes that forgiveness must be a limitless attitude. This research contributes to demonstrating that forgiveness has spiritual and social dimensions that are relevant for the church in addressing conflict and polarization in modern society.   Pengampunan merupakan ajaran utama dalam kekristenan, tetapi praktiknya sering menghadapi tantangan akibat konflik interpersonal, budaya pembalasan, dan fenomena cancel culture. Karena itu, kajian terhadap Matius 18:21–22 penting untuk memahami makna pengampunan dalam ajaran Yesus dan relevansinya bagi gereja masa kini. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan kajian biblika melalui analisis historis-kontekstual dan linguistik terhadap teks Matius 18:21–22. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengampunan bukan sekadar tuntutan moral, melainkan prinsip relasional yang bertujuan memulihkan komunitas dan membangun rekonsiliasi. Frasa “tujuh puluh kali tujuh kali” menegaskan bahwa pengampunan harus menjadi sikap hidup tanpa batas. Penelitian ini berkontribusi dalam menunjukkan bahwa pengampunan memiliki dimensi spiritual dan sosial yang relevan bagi gereja dalam menghadapi konflik dan polarisasi di tengah masyarakat modern.

Abstract

This study aims to re-examine the relevance of tithing for the contemporary church based on findings from recent theological publications. The research method employed is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using a qualitative descriptive approach. Literature searches were conducted through Google Scholar, EBSCO, JSTOR, Scopus, Garuda, Consensus, and ResearchGate, focusing on articles published between 2020 and 2024. Out of the 37 articles identified, only four met the inclusion criteria, which consisted of topic relevance, publication quality, time frame, and availability of full-text manuscripts. The synthesized findings indicate that the majority of the studies analyzed support the view that tithing remains relevant for the contemporary church. This relevance is grounded in the continuity of God's Word, its biblical foundations in both the Old and New Testaments, and its function in sustaining ministry and supporting the operational needs of the church. Tithing is not understood merely as an obligation tied to a specific numerical requirement; rather, it is viewed as an expression of wholehearted devotion and life surrender offered with sincerity.   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meninjau kembali relevansi persepuluhan bagi gereja kontemporer berdasarkan temuan publikasi teologis terkini. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Systematic Literature Review (SLR) dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Penelusuran literatur dilakukan melalui Google Scholar, EBSCO, JSTOR, Scopus, Garuda, Consensus, dan ResearchGate, dengan fokus pada artikel yang dipublikasikan antara tahun 2020–2024. Dari tiga puluh tujuh artikel yang ditemukan, hanya empat artikel memenuhi kriteria inklusi berupa kesesuaian topik, kualitas publikasi, rentang tahun, serta ketersediaan naskah lengkap. Hasil sintesis menunjukkan mayoritas penelitian yang dianalisis mendukung bahwa persepuluhan tetap dipandang relevan bagi gereja masa kini, didukung oleh kontinuitas firman Allah, landasan biblis dalam Perjanjian Lama dan Perjanjian Baru, serta fungsinya dalam menopang pelayanan dan kebutuhan operasional gereja. Persepuluhan tidak dipahami sekadar sebagai kewajiban angka tertentu, melainkan sebagai ekspresi penyerahan hidup yang dilakukan dengan ketulusan.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents both opportunities and crises for Christian education, as algorithmic rationality has the potential to reduce holistic human formation to a merely technical process. This study aims to formulate the Beyond Algorithms paradigm, which positions Christian education as an embodiment of holistic mission in the AI era. Employing a qualitative approach based on theological and pedagogical literature studies, this research finds that Christian education must be grounded in the vision of the imago Dei, critically evaluate algorithmic reductionism, and develop integrative strategies that utilize AI as a tool for holistic mission. The novelty of this study lies in the formulation of the Beyond Algorithms paradigm as an epistemological shift that organically integrates holistic mission theology, the metaphor of incarnation, and AI ethics-philosophy within the still underexplored discourse of Christian education. This paradigm emphasizes a transformative, relational, and shalom-oriented form of education that transcends computational logic. The implications suggest that Christian educational institutions need to restructure curricula, redefine the role of teachers, and reform governance in order to restore human dignity holistically in the AI era.   Perkembangan Artificial Intelligence (AI) menghadirkan peluang sekaligus krisis bagi pendidikan Kristen, karena rasionalitas algoritmik berpotensi mereduksi pembentukan manusia seutuhnya menjadi proses teknis semata. Penelitian ini bertujuan merumuskan paradigma Beyond Algorithms yang menempatkan pendidikan Kristen sebagai inkarnasi misi holistik di era AI. Melalui metode kualitatif berbasis studi literatur teologis dan pedagogis, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa pendidikan Kristen harus berpijak pada visi imago Dei, mengevaluasi reduksionisme algoritmik secara kritis, dan mengembangkan strategi integratif yang memanfaatkan AI sebagai alat misi holistik. Novelty penelitian ini terletak pada perumusan paradigma Beyond Algorithms sebagai pergeseran epistemologis yang mengintegrasikan teologi misi holistik, metafora inkarnasi, dan etika-filosofi AI secara organik dalam wacana pendidikan Kristen yang masih jarang dikaji. Paradigma ini menegaskan pendidikan yang transformatif, relasional, dan berorientasi shalom yang melampaui logika komputasional. Implikasinya, lembaga pendidikan Kristen perlu menata ulang kurikulum, peran guru, dan tata kelola demi pemulihan martabat manusia secara utuh di era AI.

Abstract

Pastoral shepherding plays a vital role in nurturing, sustaining, and developing the spiritual maturity of the congregation. Amid rapid technological change and increasingly complex social challenges, pastoral ministry requires adaptive leadership grounded in sound theological principles. The Apostle Paul’s experiences of suffering in 2 Corinthians 11:23–28 provide a model of authentic ministry characterized by perseverance, sacrifice, and faithfulness to Christ. His imprisonment, persecution, and various hardships demonstrate that suffering can serve as a means of spiritual formation, resilience, and deeper dependence on God. Paul’s ministry also reflects profound pastoral concern for the spiritual well-being of believers, revealing that effective leadership involves both theological commitment and relational care. The findings of this study suggest that contemporary pastoral ministry should be marked by integrity, dedication, spiritual endurance, empathy, and exemplary conduct. Consequently, Paul’s ministry offers a theological and practical framework for developing contextual, transformative, and effective pastoral shepherding in today’s church.   Pelayanan penggembalaan merupakan aspek penting dalam kehidupan gereja yang berfokus pada pembinaan dan pertumbuhan rohani jemaat. Di tengah tantangan sosial dan perkembangan teknologi yang pesat, pelayanan pastoral memerlukan kepemimpinan yang adaptif dan berlandaskan teologi yang kuat. Rasul Paulus, melalui penderitaan yang dicatat dalam 2 Korintus 11:23–28, memberikan teladan pelayanan yang autentik dan kontekstual. Berbagai penderitaan yang dialaminya menjadi sarana pembentukan iman, ketahanan spiritual, dan pengharapan, sekaligus menunjukkan komitmennya kepada Kristus dan jemaat. Ketekunan Paulus menegaskan bahwa kesetiaan dalam pelayanan tidak bergantung pada kenyamanan, melainkan pada hubungan yang erat dengan Allah. Pelayanannya juga memperlihatkan kepedulian pastoral yang mendalam terhadap kondisi rohani jemaat. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa pelayanan penggembalaan masa kini perlu dibangun di atas pengorbanan, dedikasi, integritas, ketahanan iman, kepedulian pastoral, dan keteladanan hidup. Dengan demikian, model pelayanan Paulus menjadi landasan teologis dan praktis bagi pengembangan pelayanan penggembalaan yang kontekstual, transformatif, dan efektif.

Abstract

The Lord’s Supper is a central sacrament in Christian worship that embodies both theological and ecclesiological significance in shaping the church as the Body of Christ. However, in contemporary church practice, particularly in youth ministry, it is often understood primarily as a ritual observance rather than a formative means of communal spirituality. This article aims to (1) examine the meaning of the Lord’s Supper through an exegetical-theological study of 1 Corinthians 10–11, (2) explain its role in building the Body of Christ within Pauline ecclesiology, and (3) explore its implications for Christian youth faith formation. Employing a qualitative descriptive method with an exegetical approach, this study analyzes biblical texts alongside relevant literature in New Testament theology, sacramental theology, and Christian education. The findings reveal that the Lord’s Supper signifies koinonia with Christ and with fellow believers, fostering unity, equality, love, and social responsibility within the church. The novelty of this study lies in integrating Pauline sacramental theology with a contextual framework for youth spiritual formation.   Perjamuan Kudus merupakan salah satu sakramen utama dalam ibadah Kristen yang memiliki makna teologis dan eklesiologis dalam membentuk gereja sebagai Tubuh Kristus. Namun, dalam praktik gereja masa kini, khususnya dalam pelayanan remaja, Perjamuan Kudus sering dipahami terutama sebagai ritual liturgis daripada sebagai sarana pembentukan spiritualitas komunal. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk (1) mengkaji makna Perjamuan Kudus melalui studi eksegetis-teologis terhadap 1 Korintus 10–11, (2) menjelaskan perannya dalam membangun Tubuh Kristus dalam kerangka eklesiologi Paulus, dan (3) menguraikan implikasinya bagi pembinaan iman remaja Kristen. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan eksegetis terhadap teks Alkitab, yang didukung oleh kajian literatur dalam teologi Perjanjian Baru, teologi sakramen, dan pendidikan Kristen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Perjamuan Kudus merupakan perwujudan koinonia dengan Kristus dan sesama orang percaya yang membangun kesatuan, kesetaraan, kasih, serta tanggung jawab sosial dalam gereja. Kebaruan penelitian ini terletak pada integrasi teologi sakramental Paulus dengan pendekatan kontekstual bagi pembinaan spiritual remaja Kristen.
