Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the use of translation techniques and pragmatic functions of swear words found in the movie “Don't Look Up”. This research is a descriptive qualitative method. The findings show that there are 117 data of cursing utterances and the most frequently used translation techniques in translating cursing utterances are reduction technique with a percentage of (37.6%) of the total data, adaptation translation technique (35%), and literal translation and transposition techniques with 9 data each (7.6%). Furthermore, discursive creation and particularization translation techniques are 2 data each (1.7%). In contrast, the least used translation techniques are modulation, amplification, and borrowing (0.8%). The second finding is that the most frequent pragmatic function of swearing utterances is expletive swearing with a percentage of 51.2%. The pragmatic function as auxiliary swearing is 21.3%, abusive swearing with a percentage of 17.9% and the least pragmatic function of swear words is humorous swearing with a percentage of 9.4%.Keywords: translation technique, pragmatic function, swear word

Abstract

This article will describe the use of the interrogative verb "how much" which is included in the scale implicature in the conversation of people in tourist attractions in Surabaya City. The method used in the study is a qualitative descriptive method. The data collection technique used is observation. The data source obtained in the study was the speech of people in tourist attractions in Surabaya City. The research data was obtained by recording conversations of people in five tourist attractions in Surabaya City with a cellphone. The theory used in the study is from George Yule. The results of the data analysis found seven uses of the interrogative verb "how much" to ask for the amount, three to ask for the price, and two data to ask for time.Keywords: how much; auxiliary word; question; tourismABSTRAKArtikel ini akan mendeskripsikan penggunaan kata bantu tanya “berapa” yang termasuk dalam implikatur berskala pada percakapan masyarakat di tempat wisata Kota Surabaya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yakni  observasi. Sumber data diperoleh dalam penelitian yakni tuturan masyarakat di tempat wisata Kota Surabaya. Data penelitian diperoleh dengan merekam percakapan masyarakat di lima tempat wisata Kota Surabaya dengan handphone. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian  yakni dari George Yule. Abstract

This study aims to find out the forms of verbal communication patterns used by traders who sell in the Rebo of Purwakarta Regency for indigenous buyers and the obstacles encountered in the process of buying and selling. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research method and a pragmatic approach. The data collection techniques used in this study include recording techniques, interviews, recording techniques, and documentary studies. While the research data concerns traders and buyers in buying and selling courses, the respondents are traders and men and women, young people, adults, or elderly who are in the rebo market area. Based on the results of research in the field, researchers obtained data according to which modes of communication of traders with buyers of Rebo took place mainly in a primary way, that is to say, face to face and using more than one language when buying and selling. reciprocal communication transactions between traders and buyers. Two-way communication follows in the negotiation process an explanation of the goods. At the same time, verbal communication occurs with questions and response between traders and buyers during the transaction. The language used in the purchasing process and in general is that of Sundanese, mixed and Indonesian traders, as they adapt to buyers.Keywords: patterns; traders; transactions of purchase; verbal communication

Abstract

This article will describe the Minangkabau dialect in the novel "Dompet Ayah Sepatu Ibu" by J.S Khairen. This novel tells the story of the struggle of a child in the interior to change his fate to be more prosperous, set in the West Sumatra area, Padang City, Minangkabau. The research method uses descriptive qualitative. The object of the research is the novel Dompet Ayah Sepatu Ibu by J.S Khairen. Using library study techniques with data analysis techniques. The results of the research in the form of data that has been found in the form of the Minangkabau dialect are described and analyzed. Minangkabau dialect data is examined with sociolinguistic studies, studies on the relationship between language and its speaking community. The results of the study show the use of the Minangkabau dialect in the novel. The Minangkabau dialect is seen in several terms such as 'umak', 'atuk', 'abak', 'kosak', 'galado', 'pinukuik', and many others.Keywords: dialect; novel; literature; sociolinguistics Abstrak Artikel ini akan mendeskripsikan dialek Minangkabau dalam novel Dompet Ayah Sepatu Ibu karya J.S Khairen. Metode penelitian menggunakan kualitatif deskripstif. Objek penelitian berupa novel Dompet Ayah Sepatu Ibu karya J.S Khairen. Menggunakan teknik studi pustaka dengan teknik analisis data. Hasil penelitian berupa data yang telah ditemukan berupa dialek Minangkabau dideskripsikan dengan dianalisis. Data dialek Minangkabau diteliti dengan kajian sosiolinguistik, kajian tentang hubungan bahasa dengan masayarakat penuturnya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya penggunaan dialek Minangkabau dalam novel. Dialek Minangkabau tampak pada beberapa istilah seperti ‘umak’, ‘atuk’, ‘abak’, ‘kosak’, ‘galado’, ‘pinukuik’, dan masih banyak lainnya.Kata Kunci: dialek; novel; sastra; sosiolinguistik

Abstract

This study aims to describe the utilization of the TikTok platform as a medium for language acquisition among children aged 3–6 years, viewed through a psycholinguistic approach using B.F. Skinner’s Behaviorist Theory. The research focuses on identifying linguistic stimuli presented in TikTok content, children’s verbal responses (including mand, tact, echoic, and intraverbal), and reinforcement patterns that support language acquisition. This research applies a descriptive qualitative method, with data derived from educational TikTok accounts such as @belajardariibu_, @dhaneswara.kids, and @dunia.edukasianak_, along with observations of children’s interactions with these contents. Data analysis followed the three stages of Miles and Huberman’s model: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that TikTok provides rich linguistic stimuli in the form of audio, visual, and textual cues that attract children’s attention. Verbal responses emerged in the form of imitation, object naming, and simple question–answer exchanges. Positive reinforcement from parents and the surrounding environment plays a crucial role in strengthening these responses, enabling the effective operation of the stimulus–response–reinforcement process. Consequently, TikTok can serve as an interactive and effective tool for early language learning when used under proper supervision and guidance.Keywords: acquisition; behaviorism;  children; TikTok Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pemanfaatan platform TikTok sebagai media pemerolehan bahasa anak usia 3–6 tahun melalui pendekatan psikolinguistik dengan menggunakan teori Behaviorisme B.F. Skinner. Fokus penelitian diarahkan pada bentuk stimulus linguistik yang muncul dalam konten TikTok, respons verbal anak (meliputi mand, tact, echoic, dan intraverbal), serta bentuk penguatan (reinforcement) yang mendukung pemerolehan bahasa anak. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan sumber data berupa video TikTok dari akun edukatif seperti @belajardariibu_, @dhaneswara.kids, dan @dunia.edukasianak_, serta hasil observasi terhadap anak usia dini berinteraksi dengan konten tersebut. Data dianalisis menggunakan tiga tahapan analisis Miles dan Huberman, yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa TikTok memberikan stimulus linguistik berupa suara, gambar, dan teks yang menarik perhatian anak. Respons anak tampak melalui perilaku verbal seperti meniru, menamai objek, hingga merespons pertanyaan sederhana. Penguatan positif dari orang tua dan lingkungan berperan penting dalam memperkuat respons anak, sehingga proses stimulus–respons–reinforcement berjalan secara efektif. Dengan demikian, TikTok dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai media pembelajaran bahasa yang interaktif, selama terdapat pengawasan dan pengarahan dari orang dewasa.Kata Kunci: pemerolehan; behaviorisme;  anak; TikTok

Abstract

This article aims to describe the improvement in the pedagogical skills of Indonesian language teachers through ADDIE training in implementing in-depth learning in assisted schools. The method used was an explanatory sequential experimental design, with a sample of 20 teachers (10 in the experimental group, 10 in the control group) in Cianjur Regency. Data were collected through tests, questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The ADDIE training was conducted over five days, encompassing needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The experimental group's results showed a significant improvement (mean post-test score of 88, p < 0.05) compared to the control group, with teachers able to design contextual and enjoyable learning. Educational institutions need to provide digital resources and increase the frequency of mentoring to support the sustainability of the training, as well as examine the long-term impact on student achievement.Keywords: competence; pedagogy; training; in-depth learning Abstrak Artikel ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan peningkatan kemampuan pedagogik guru bahasa Indonesia melalui pelatihan model ADDIE dalam mengimplementasikan pembelajaran mendalam di sekolah dampingan. Metode yang digunakan desain eksperimen sekuensial eksplanatori dengan 20 guru sebagai sampel (10 kelompok eksperimen, 10 kelompok kontrol) di Kabupaten Cianjur. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes, kuesioner, wawancara, dan observasi. Pelatihan ADDIE dilaksanakan selama lima hari, mencakup analisis kebutuhan, desain, pengembangan, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Hasil kelompok eksperimen menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan (rata-rata skor post-test 88, p < 0.05) dibandingkan kelompok kontrol, dengan guru mampu merancang pembelajaran yang kontekstual dan menyenangkan. Institusi pendidikan perlu menyediakan sumber daya digital dan meningkatkan frekuensi pendampingan untuk mendukung keberlanjutan pelatihan, serta meneliti dampak jangka panjang terhadap prestasi siswa.Kata kunci: kompetensi; pedagogik; pelatihan; pembelajaran mendalam

Abstract

This study aims to examine the intertextual relationship between the drama Janji Senja by Taofan Nalisaputra and the poem Senja di Pelabuhan Kecil by Chairil Anwar through symbolic analysis based on Riffaterre’s semiotic framework. The urgency of this research lies in the limited studies that specifically explore the transformation of the symbol “dusk” across genres within a heuristic and hermeneutic reading, where symbols serve as the core of textual meaning. This research employs a qualitative-descriptive method using primary texts and supporting theoretical literature. The findings reveal that both texts share the same matrix of meaning, positioning dusk as a representation of loss and absence. However, the drama develops a new model by framing dusk as a space of prolonged waiting and introduces a symbolic variant through its personification as a father figure. This transformation demonstrates that Janji Senja does not merely reproduce the symbol found in Chairil’s poem but expands its meaning, enriching the tradition of dusk symbolism in Indonesian literature. Keywords: heuristic–hermeneutics; intertextuality; Riffaterre; twilight Artikel ini akan mengungkap hubungan intertekstual antara naskah drama “Janji Senja” karya Taofan Nalisaputra dan puisi “Senja di Pelabuhan Kecil” karya Chairil Anwarmelalui analisis simbolik dengan pendekatan semiotik Riffaterre. Urgensi penelitian terletak pada minimnya kajian yang secara khusus menelaah transformasi simbol “senja” lintas-genre, terutama dalam kerangka pembacaan heuristik dan hermeneutik yang menempatkan simbol sebagai pusat struktur makna. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif-deskriptif dengan sumber data berupa teks primer dan literatur teoritis pendukung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedua teks memiliki matriks makna yang sama, yaitu senja sebagai representasi kehilangan dan ketiadaan, namun drama mengembangkan model baru berupa senja sebagai ruang penantian dan menghasilkan varian simbolik melalui personifikasi senja sebagai figur ayah. Transformasi makna ini menegaskan bahwa Janji Senja tidak hanya mereproduksi simbol dari puisi Chairil, tetapi menciptakan perluasan makna yang memperkaya tradisi simbol senja dalam sastra Indonesia Kata kunci: heuristik–hermeneutik; intertekstualitas; Riffaterre; senja

Abstract

This article discusses the influence of social background on the choice of language varieties used in interactions in the STT Wastukancana Purwakarta campus environment.. This social background in question includes the following factors: Like the origin of the region, the level of education of parents, the work of parents, and the social environment. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with survey methods and interviews with 50 STT Wastukancana Purwakarta student respondents from various study programs. Data were analyzed through reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions based on sociolinguistic theory. The results of this study indicate that differences in social background greatly affect the variety of languages used by students, both in the context/formal and non-formal situations. Students from the urban environment and highly educated tend to use standard Indonesian in formal situations, while students from rural environments more often use mixed languages, namely regional languages and non-standard Indonesian language. These findings confirm that the variety of languages among students is not only determined by the situation of communication, but also by social factors that form language habits. This research is expected to contribute to the development of sociolinguistic studies that highlight the dynamics of language among tertiary students, especially in the context of higher education in the region.Keywords: language variety; social background; students

Abstract

This article will describe the politeness of the Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) in the translation of Surah Taha, verses 43–56 of the Qur'an. The approach used is descriptive qualitative, using Leech's theory of politeness. The research instrument used six maxims of politeness. Data were collected through a study of translated texts of the Qur'an. The results show that the politeness of the Prophet Moses' dialogue reflects a communication practice full of submission, gentleness, and wisdom. The six maxims of politeness appear in various forms of speech, such as humble requests, gentle commands, and greetings containing respect. These findings were then used as the basis for developing teaching materials for 11th-grade students that are deemed appropriate, applicable, and capable of shaping students' language character, particularly in delivering lectures. This study recommends that the values of politeness in the stories of the prophets can be used as a reference in the development of Indonesian language teaching materials, to support meaningful, contextual, and character-based learning.Keywords: teaching materials; language; politeness; Prophet Moses Abstrak Artikel ini akan mendeskripsikan kesantunan berbahasa Nabi Musa Alaihi Salam dalam terjemahan Al-Qur’an Surah Taha ayat 43–56. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan teori kesantunan dari Leech. Instrumen penelitian menggunakan enam prinsip maksim kesantunan. Data dikumpulkan melalui kajian teks terjemah Al-Qur’an. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesantunan berbahasa dalam dialog Nabi Musa mencerminkan praktik komunikasi yang penuh ketundukan, kelembutan, dan kebijaksanaan. Keenam maksim kesantunan muncul dalam berbagai bentuk tuturan, seperti permohonan yang merendah, perintah yang lembut, dan sapaan yang mengandung penghormatan. Temuan ini kemudian dijadikan dasar dalam penyusunan bahan ajar siswa kelas XI yang dipandang layak, aplikatif, dan mampu membentuk karakter siswa dalam berbahasa, khususnya dalam menyampaikan ceramah. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan agar nilai-nilai kesantunan dalam kisah para nabi dapat dijadikan rujukan dalam pengembangan bahan ajar Bahasa Indonesia, guna mendukung pembelajaran yang bermakna, kontekstual, dan berbasis karakter.Kata Kunci: bahan ajar; berbahasa; kesantunan; Nabi Musa

Abstract

This aticle describe the form of eclecticism, irony, and parody in the novel Amore: by Your Side using the theory of postmodernism Jean Francois Lyotard. This type of research is descriptive qualitative by analyzing the text of the novel based on postmodern aspects. The results showed that eclecticism is present through three forms, namely eclecticism as a plurality of global music references, eclecticism through a blend of global culture in lifestyle, to eclecticism in a plurality of language games in the form of communication styles of the characters who often combine Indonesian with foreign languages such as English and French. The form of the aspect of irony is present in two forms, namely irony related to the contradiction of expectations and reality, as well as the irony of love and the uncertainty of feelings that reflect the ambiguity of postmodern life. As for the form of parody aspect appears through the form of parody of romance romance and parody of social life presented in a reflective, humorous and witty. Overall, these three aspects show that the novel Amore: by Your Side represents the spirit of Lyotard's postmodernism, namely the plurality of meanings, the rejection of a single truth, and the celebration of cultural diversity and forms of expression. Keywords: eclecticism; irony; novel; parody; postmodernism Artikel ini mendeskripsikan bentuk ekletisisme, ironi, dan parodi dalam novel Amore: By Your Side menggunakan teori pascamodernisme Jean Francois Lyotard. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan menganalisis teks novel berdasarkan aspek-aspek pascamodern. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ekletisisme hadir melalui tiga bentuk yakni ekletisisme sebagai pluralitas referensi musik global, ekletisisme melalui perpaduan budaya global dalam gaya hidup, hingga ekletisisme dalam pluralitas permainan bahasa berupa gaya komunikasi tokoh-tokohnya yang sering memadukan bahasa Indonesia dengan bahasa asing seperti Inggris dan Prancis. Bentuk aspek ironi hadir dalam dua bentuk, yaitu ironi yang berkaitan dengan kontradiksi harapan dan kenyataan, serta ironi cinta dan ketidakpastian perasaan yang mencerminkan ambiguitas kehidupan pascamodern. Adapun bentuk aspek parodi muncul melalui bentuk parodi terhadap romansa percintaan dan parodi kehidupan sosial yang disajikan secara reflektif, humor dan jenaka. Secara keseluruhan, ketiga aspek ini menunjukkan bahwa novel Amore: By Your Side merepresentasikan semangat pascamodernisme Lyotard, yakni pluralitas makna, penolakan terhadap kebenaran tunggal, dan perayaan terhadap keberagaman budaya serta bentuk ekspresi.
