Abstract

The design of the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H) illustrates both the objectives and limitations of intentional design’s role in national healing and state building following violent conflict. The architecture and design of public buildings, spaces, and symbols can facilitate sociability or reinforce segregation and hostility. This analysis contends that design, especially of public symbols intended to evoke emotions and unity, can facilitate healing. Yet in this case, the flag's design ignores the conflict, assumes a utopia, thus failing to move society to reconciliation.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The study delves into the intricate matter of sexual grooming in academic settings and proposes a comprehensive approach to intervention and prevention. Using qualitative approaches, this study assesses the prevalence of grooming incidents, identifies recurrent themes, and investigates the repercussions on victims and educational communities. Along with providing research-based recommendations for curriculum developers, school administrators, and other interested parties, the study also critically evaluates present methods. This study aims to provide useful guidance for establishing a secure and supportive learning environment for all involved. The results of this study indicate that the respondents were not very aware of the risks associated with sexual grooming. This can lead to negative outcomes such as manipulating, exploiting, and abusing children and young people when someone establishes a relationship and gain their trust. Due to the fact that many students especially women prefer older guys, sexual grooming is becoming increasingly common in academic settings. First of all, they consider them to be more relationship-savvy, especially those who are employed or have enough money, they feel as though they are protected and can somehow care for their needs—funds taken from their stipends. Younger partners believe that because the elder partner is more experienced, s/he can mentor and teach them in a variety of areas. From the perspective of the more senior person in the relationship, they prefer dating a younger partner since they perceive themselves as the dominant party. Additionally, they think that making the "right decisions" and knowing them may improve their relationship.

Abstract

Like many great writers, Ernest Hemingway used short stories as a new genre of the 20th-century literature to comprehend human psychics in America after the first world war. Hemingway was worried about what could be called the effect of war on human desires. This research will study the dissatisfaction and isolation due to the consequences of war ghosts on Americans in a very short story, Cat in the Rain. The tactic could not be biographical but it depends on human dissatisfaction towards each other. This short story was written when the author was spending the holiday at a hotel in Italy with his lovely wife, gradually becoming alienated to Hadley (his wife). Oddly enough, the story displays a most insensitive spouse, on the other hand, the writer describes himself as extremely serious of masculine old-style satisfaction. The story can be understood as an essential notion in which a woman begins enquiring about her desires and wishes with no responses by the husband who prefers the material objects rather than spiritual ones. The dissatisfaction and alienation affected his lifestyle and way of living, through this story. The researcher is going to focus on the disharmony among spouses and the consequences of the deterioration of the war on Americans. This study reveals the crucial women’s needs while her husband spent most of his time away of the wife desires indifferent.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Death is not viewed as the absolute end, but rather as a gateway to a continued spiritual existence or rebirth. The main objective of this study is to find out the publication trend of death attitude-related articles from 2015 to 2024. The study used the bibliometric analysis method to analyze the data published in Dimensions. Analysis of death attitude publications over the past decade reveals increasing interest, with a peak in 2021 but a decline in 2022 and 2023. Citation analysis shows a steady rise in citations until 2022, followed by a slight decline. The percentage of publications with citations has decreased over the years. Metrics like FCR and RCR indicate fluctuating citation impact. Interdisciplinary research is evident, with dominant categories including "Human Society," "Health Sciences," and "Law and Legal Studies." Leading countries in death attitude research include the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Challenges such as declining citation uptake underscore the need for enhanced dissemination efforts. Death attitude research has seen increasing interest and impact, significant challenges in citation uptake and fluctuating impact highlight the need for strategic improvements in research dissemination and visibility. Addressing these issues is essential to maintain and enhance the field's scholarly influence.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study utilizes the “Spokesperson’ s Remarks” section on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’ s Republic of China, focusing on over 100,000 words from the regular press conferences held by the Ministry in 2023. Drawing upon Martin and White’ s (2005) appraisal theory as the analytical framework, this research conducts frequency statistics and functional discourse analysis on the categories of attitudinal resources in the selected corpus. Employing a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches, the study aims to identify and investigate the discourse meanings conveyed through attitude resources in the news discourse of “regular press conferences,” revealing the linguistic characteristics of China’ s diplomatic discourse. Furthermore, it seeks to summarize the significance and impact of diplomatic discourse on the construction of national image. The results indicate that the corpus is most rich in judgmental attitude resources, primarily realized through vocabulary, syntax, and rhetorical expressions. This suggests that spokespersons mainly express attitudinal tendencies through factual statements and enhance national discourse power with precise language control, reflecting the objectivity of the discourse and contributing to the audience’ s trust in the information.

The Philippines is a country that values music tremendously. Filipino composers create music that reflects the passions that drive political and social awareness in the Philippines. Serving as a voice for every citizen who is a victim of society and demonstrating the importance of music as a transforming force for national awareness, Filipino songwriters make songs reflecting the challenges of every Filipino. Music is a tool for political and social criticism. It is a means of addressing social injustice. In Aristotle Pollisco's (Gloc-9) five select lyrical poems, this study distinguished the expressions of the Filipinos' struggle with social class and difficulties of the working people. Gloc-9 uses music to depict the challenges of Filipinos, highlighting delinquency, criminality, societal, and political issues, and how parents must scrimp and save to send their children to school and provide them with a bright future. This research focused on Filipinos and their unwavering tenacity in the face of societal challenges. It would delve more into how Aristotle Pollisco, better known by his stage name as Gloc-9, uses music to express these issues. This research attempted to bring Gloc-9 to the Gen-Zs (12-24 years old) whose musical tastes have shifted towards Westernized themes, which are improper and irrelevant to their age.

Abstract

This paper aimed to determine and analyze the experiences on food in conversations specifically on food that they associate with family bonding (get-together) and festivities (town fiesta), and categorize the themes of associations on food choices. Ferdinand de Saussure’s (Dewanti, 2023) signifier and signified concepts were used in analyzing the association on food while the experiences of food during family bonding and festivities were categorized by theme using the thematic analysis template of Brooks, McCluskey, Turley & King (2015). This study used the descriptive research method in analyzing food experiences in conversations through one-on-one interviews and group interviews. Conversation analysis was used as the approach in gathering the data. Results of this study revealed the predominance of meat (chicken and pork especially lechon) pancit, and staple food represented by puto and bibingka. In addition, the food choices are signifiers of the following signified: namely, strengthening the family ties, longevity, prosperity, love, joy/happiness, and simplicity and adaptability. Finally, the family tradition is manifested in passing the recipe from the older generation to the younger generation, offering food for the dead, expressing gratitude before eating around the table, looking beyond the taste of food during family bonding. The Filipino food culture has been preserved through passing the kind of food prepared during family bonding as food symbolizes longevity, love, togetherness, strengthening family ties, and simplicity. The choice of food could be attributed to religious beliefs, financial status, and nostalgia.
