Abstract

ABSTRACT This study explores the mythological identity of Ratu Roro Kidul, a prominent figure in Indonesian folklore, and its implications for local spirituality and culture. Drawing from Mircea Eliade’s concept of mythology as a narrative structure that connects humans to the sacred and Joseph Campbell’s notion of mythological heroes as symbols of cultural identity, the study employs genealogical myth analysis to examine the origins, variations, and roles of Roro Kidul’s myth across Indonesia. The research highlights two main versions of the myth: one linking Roro Kidul to the Majapahit Kingdom as a goddess protecting the Southern Ocean, and the other associating her with the Kingdom of Pajajaran, emphasizing her transformation into a queen of spirits. Both versions reflect the intertwining of spiritual and historical narratives, with Roro Kidul serving as a guardian of nature and a symbol of political legitimacy, especially in relation to the Mataram Sultanate. The study concludes that the myth of Roro Kidul not only represents local beliefs but also functions as a tool for understanding the connection between humans, nature, and the supernatural, while playing a key role in shaping social and political identities in Java. This research paves the way for further studies on the role of myth in the construction of power and cultural identity in Southeast Asia.

Kohandej is a combination of two words, alt and dej, meaning fence and old castle. Both words denote a high enclosure, and the historical course of Kunduz, which is the main basis of the enclosure at the time of the Aryan rulers of Balkh, namely Ki Khosro and Qiqbad, was formed in their time 1900 years before Christ. It was conquered and destroyed and rebuilt several times over time, earning it the name Kohandezh. The province of Kunduz, known as Kunduz, Kunduz, "Waki Dej" The kings of this period were also known as Kayanis, which the epic poet Ferdowsi mentions in his book Shahnameh about these kings. Our ancient and historical land of Afghanistan was a place where cultures and trade goods intersected on a regional level, and it has long been considered a trading center between East and West. The Kushans, who founded a large empire in Ariana in the early centuries of the Christian era, traded with neighboring rulers via the Silk Road. Qunduz or Kunduz, originally known as Kohan Dej, is located in northeastern Afghanistan, and its center is the city of Kunduz. This city was the capital of Yaptlian for 110 years. Unfortunately, the historical and ancient areas of Kunduz province have been severely damaged by the internal wars of the last four decades, and no attention has been paid to the insecurities and developments of the last decade. Abstract

Students in higher education face challenges stemming from academic, financial, and social stressors, which can have a significant impact on their mental health and well-being. However, the influence of students' vulnerability and agency on mental health has not been fully examined. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between vulnerability, agency, and mental health challenges among students at South Cotabato State College, focusing on academic, financial, and social dimensions. The study employed a descriptive-correlational design, with 280 students selected through stratified random sampling. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient was used to analyze the data. Results indicated a strong positive correlation between vulnerability and mental health challenges, suggesting that higher vulnerability levels are associated with greater mental health struggles. In contrast, agency showed a very weak negative correlation with mental health challenges, indicating that although students exhibited high levels of agency, it did not significantly reduce mental health issues. These findings imply the need for comprehensive support systems that address vulnerabilities, especially in academic, financial, and social contexts, while also considering students' agency in relation to broader environmental factors. It is recommended that educational institutions integrate targeted programs that mitigate vulnerability and support mental health without solely relying on individual attributes. Further research could expand on these findings by examining additional variables influencing student well-being.

Abstract

Meranaw folk literature is a rich collection of folktales, myths, legends, fables, riddles, epics, and proverbs. The primary objective of this research is to gather, organize, and analyze documented Meranaw folktales from Lanao to preserve and enhance the understanding of these oral traditions. As a vital component of the region's cultural heritage, Meranaw folktales offer profound insights into the values, beliefs, and social conventions of the Meranaw community. Despite their cultural significance, these narratives have often been overlooked in scholarly research due to their dispersal across various archival sources. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, utilizing qualitative content analysis and quantitative data collection. Archival research was conducted to compile data on documented Meranaw folktales, with data collection taking place at various locations in Lanao del Sur, where narrative texts are preserved, followed by content analysis to categorize themes and cultural elements present in the folktales. The quantitative analysis identified the number and distribution of folktales across reference materials. The findings revealed a total of 143 documented Meranaw folktales, which were published and distributed across six reference materials. Based on the analysis, the researcher developed instructional materials, explicitly reading resources derived from Meranaw folktales, supplemented with a glossary, illustrations, and learning activities to serve as educational aids for Mother Tongue and literature subjects.
