Abstract

This article aims to analyze the effect of heating duration on the germination of oil palm seeds (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) to determine the most effective heating period for improving seed viability. The problem is focused on the impact of different heating durations on germination rate and seed viability. To approach this issue, theories on germination physiology and seed dormancy breaking were used. Data were collected through an experimental method using a completely randomized design (CRD) with four heating duration treatments: 3, 5, 7, and 9 weeks, each with five replications. The results showed that the heating treatment significantly affected germination percentage, with a 5-week heating period producing the highest germination rate. This study concludes that heating within a specific duration can accelerate germination while maintaining optimal seed viability.

Abstract

Ultisol soil is a type of marginal soil that is widely found in Indonesia, covering about 25% of the total land area. Its characteristic characteristics such as the soil pH is very acidic ( 4.5), high aluminum saturation, as well as low macronutrient content (N, P, K), make this soil less fertile and not ideal for cultivating crops, including oil palm. One of the widely used approaches to improve the soil properties of ultisol is the application of organic fertilizers, especially manure. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of various types of manure (cows, chickens, goats) in increasing soil nutrient availability and oil palm seed growth. The method used is a systematic literature review with the PRISMA approach. The results of the study showed that chicken manure had the most significant influence on increasing pH, C-organic, P-available, and cation exchange capacity. Meanwhile, cow and goat manure also contributes to increasing the availability of N and K and improving soil structure. This study provides applicative recommendations for sustainable management of ultisol soils and supports optimal growth of oil palm seedlings.

Abstract

Corn (Zea mays L.) is the second strategic food commodity after rice in Indonesia, used as a source of food, animal feed, and industrial raw materials. However, corn production faces the challenge of declining soil fertility due to the excessive use of inorganic fertilizers. A potential alternative is the use of organic fertilizers based on vegetable waste, such as cabbage waste (Brassica oleracea), which is rich in nutrients and beneficial microbes. This study is a literature review that analyzes 20 scientific articles published in 2010–2023 that discuss the nutrient content of cabbage waste, the composting process, and its effectiveness on corn growth. The analysis was carried out narratively and thematically, on data obtained from national and international journals. The results of the study showed that cabbage waste compost, especially those fermented with EM4, contains important elements such as sulfur, calcium, and microbes such as Lactobacillus sp. and Saccharomyces sp., which are able to improve soil structure and increase crop yields. This literature provides a scientific basis for further research and offers sustainable agronomic solutions for farmers through the use of local organic waste.

Abstract

Black soybeans (Glycine max L.) are one of the important food commodities that have high nutritional value, but their production in Indonesia is still low. This study aims to analyze the effect of the application of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (FMA) and oil palm empty bunch compost (TKKS) on the growth and production of black soybean plants. The research was carried out in the experimental field using a factorial Group Random Design (RAK) with two factors, namely TKKS (0, 300, and 600 g/plot) and FMA (0, 10, 20, and 30 g/plant), which were repeated three times, respectively. The parameters observed included plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, number of branches, number of pods, and weight of wet and dry seeds. The results of the analysis showed that the administration of TKKS and FMA separately and interactively had a real effect on almost all growth and outcome parameters. The best treatment combination was obtained in K2F3, namely TKKS compost 600 g/plot and FMA 30 g/plant. This study concludes that the integration between TKKS and FMA organic fertilizers can be an effective and sustainable strategy in increasing the productivity of black soybeans

Abstract

Peanuts are the fourth food commodity after rice, soybeans and corn. In terms of food crops, the existence of peanuts has a comparative advantage compared to other food crops. Excessive use of chemical fertilizers is a problem for soil fertility. Biofertilizers are one alternative in improving soil structure. Bioneensis is a biofertilizer made from a consortium of indigenous bacteria in oil palm roots (rhizome). Bioneensis contains N-binding microorganisms, P solvents and IAA producers which function as Plant Growth Promoting Bacteria (PGPR). Mycorrhiza is a fungus that is symbiotic in plant roots which is often used in agriculture, including helping to increase the presence of plant nutrients, increasing plant resistance to environmental stress, disease, and adverse conditions. This fungus is used as a biological agent to help increase plant growth during the vegetative and generative periods.

Abstract

Modern agriculture faces serious challenges due to its high dependence on chemical fertilizers, which in the long run leads to soil degradation, environmental pollution, and a decrease in the diversity of soil microorganisms. One of the innovative approaches that is now widely developed is the use of soil microorganisms as biological agents, especially Bacillus sp. This study aims to examine the role of Bacillus sp. in improving soil fertility and plant productivity in a sustainable manner through literature studies. A total of 25 relevant scientific articles published in 2015–2024 were thematically analyzed based on aspects of phosphate dissolution, enzyme production, biocontrol capabilities, and increased plant growth. The results of the study show that Bacillus sp. It has the ability to increase nutrient availability, inhibit plant pathogens, improve soil structure, and stimulate root growth through the production of phytohormones. However, its effectiveness is greatly influenced by the type of plant and the condition of the agroecosystem. With proper management, Bacillus sp. can be a leading alternative to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and encourage sustainable agriculture that is environmentally friendly and efficient.

Abstract

Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) is a natural sweetener plant that is increasingly in demand because of the content of steviol glycosides in its leaves which is safe for people with diabetes and obesity. The biomass production of stevia leaves is an important indicator in determining the quality and quantity of glycosides produced. This study aims to analyze the influence of various types of organic fertilizers on the growth and production of Stevia rebaudiana biomass through a literature study. This study uses a descriptive-qualitative method by examining 30 relevant scientific sources from national and international journals in the period 2008–2023. The results of the study show that organic fertilizers such as manure, compost, cascing, and plantagar are able to significantly increase vegetative growth, root system, and leaf glycoside content. The effectiveness of fertilizers is greatly influenced by environmental factors such as soil pH, temperature, and light intensity. The use of paranet and liming is an adaptive strategy to create microclimate conditions that support nutrient absorption. In conclusion, the combination of organic fertilization and proper environmental management can optimize the production of stevia biomass in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of NPK fertilizer application, bagasse compost, and its interaction on the growth and production of cucumber plants (Cucumis sativus L.) of the Zafaty F1 variety. The research was carried out using a factorial Group Random Design (RAK) with two factors, namely the dose of NPK fertilizer (1, 2, and 3 tons/ha) and bagasse compost (0, 10, 20, and 30 tons/ha). The observed parameters included plant height, stem diameter, flowering age, fruit diameter, number of fruits per sample and per plot, and fruit weight per sample and per plot. The results of the analysis showed that NPK fertilizer had a very real effect on the acceleration of flowering life, while bagasse compost had a real effect on the number of fruits per sample and per plot in the second harvest. However, no significant effect of either treatment was found on vegetative growth (stem height and diameter) as well as fruit size and weight. These findings indicate that NPK fertilization and bagasse compost have not been optimal in increasing overall cucumber production. Further research is needed to explore more precise dosage and sustainable application strategies to maximise crop yields.
