Abstract

This article aims to examine and analyze the transformation of the profane meaning of the Cirebon mask in the creative industry. The mask transformation has significantly changed the economically supporting community, while for the government, the changes have provided foreign exchange for the country. The meaning of profane masks in the creative industry has made a positive trend for artisans; this is in line with changes in the social structure of Cirebon society and globally. Change has made its capital in the practice of cultural products by artisans. But from another perspective, the issue of cultural products in the creative economy concerns the emergence of capitalist practices and their strengths, especially by some artisans who remain loyal to the original value of masks. Departing from this point gave rise to internal turmoil and conflict in the Cirebon mask-supporting community. A paradox, the change issue is very complex, complicated, and full of contradictions. On the other hand, the current existence of masks can indirectly reinforce the sovereign integrity of masks in cultural dynamics. The writing of this article uses a qualitative method to be able to describe and analyze mask changes. The practice of transforming the meaning of masks is divided into three parts, Cirebon Mask, the transformation of profane meaning, and creative industries.

Behind the Indonesian Revolution war’s success, it turns out that the power of religion (Islam) plays an essential role in it, especially the role of Islamic boarding schools, which always contribute according to the times and conditions. With his desire to defend Indonesia’s homeland, the Ulama directly guided the santri so that the ranks of Laskar Hizbullah were formed. So the purpose of this research is to describe the role and contribution of the Tambakberas Islamic boarding school as the center of the Laskar Hizbullah in Jombang in fighting for and defending Indonesian independence. The method used is the historical method. The results of this study provide information that the Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School, as the center of the Laskar Hizbullah in Jombang, has a role as the foundation for the formation of the Laskar Hizbullah in Jombang. Kiai Wahab Hasbullah, an accomplished leader in building a sense of nationalism in the Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School santri through the song Syubbanul Wathon (Hubbul Wathan), is in the spotlight, the primary place for regeneration training of Jombang Laskar Hizbullah. Abstract

This article aims to examine the practice of the nede rite among the Sasak people of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The Nede ritual is an everyday activity that combines diverse customary traditions, cultures, and Islamic beliefs to pray to God for rain in a kemaliq or sacred spot. Commonly, Muslims recount istisqo prayers to request rain, but in this Sasak Islamic community, they have invented a unique tradition known as the Nede ritual. The extended drought that resulted in crop failure of the community's agricultural products pushed the community to undertake the Nede ceremony. The complexities of Nede ritual practice inspire inquiry into the ritual's history, stages, symbolic meaning, and community engagement. This study employs a qualitative methodology with a phenomenological approach. The data was gathered through observation and in-depth interviews with traditional authorities, religious leaders, and members of local communities. The findings revealed that the nede ritual was first done in the 1970s when the community suffered from a lengthy drought and could not harvest. This extended drought stumped the community until one of the indigenous elders had a dream and received directions from supernatural creatures to execute a rite on a sacred rock on Mount Sulung. The Nede ritual is not only intricate in execution but also rich in meaning at each level. The rite is accompanied by traditional gendang beleq music. Other data indicate that community participation in this ritual is robust, and they have open access to some stages.

This research is qualitative. This study collected data using observation, in-depth interviews, and literature studies. Data is analyzed by reducing, displaying, analyzing, processing, making conclusions, and verifying data. The results of this study indicate that the emergence of religious fundamentalism is caused by understanding textually the verses, rejecting Western modernism, and political power is disadvantaged. The proposal from this research in counteracting religious fundamentalism is using deradicalization of the State, optimizing the role of religious leaders, and deradicalization of educational institutions. This research still needs to be continued by other researchers related to deradicalization and moderation in religion.

Abstract

During Ramadhan month in the 2000s, most Indonesian TV stations used to air Islamic-themed soap operas. However, the stories of those soap operas did not represent Islamic values. Rather than showing Islamic messages in their stories, most scenes of those soap operas were all about melodrama and mysticism. This research aims to analyze and compare two Islamic-labeled soap operas, Lorong Waktu 3 (2002) and Kiamat Sudah Dekat (2005), claimed as the real Islamic stories by Dedi Mizwar. While I intend to prove Mizwar's claim, I also will focus on examining the romantic scenes in both soap operas. I use qualitative methods to analyze the research objective by collecting primary sources digitally on YouTube and secondary sources in online-offline libraries. The videos of Mizwars' soap operas are available and open-accessed on YouTube, so obtaining the relevant primary sources is effortless. After researching, I found that melodrama and mysticism popularities of many Islamic labeled soap operas did not influence the romantic love stories of Mizwar's production. Both Lorong Waktu 3 and Kiamat Sudah Dekat beautifully convey how Islam confines a romantic relationship to Indonesian Muslim society. All in all, this research shows the filmmaker succeeded in criticizing and changing the image of most soap opera characters that previously did not represent Islamic lessons.

Abstract

Pela gandong is a local wisdom that was born from the social dynamics of the people of Central Maluku. The values contained in pela gandong became the initial capital for social reconciliation of the fractured relationship after the 1999-2002 conflict. This study tries to answer three main problems, namely: first, how did the conflict occur and what caused it. Second, what is the impact arising from the 1999-2002 conflict events and third, what is the role of pela gandong values as a media for resolution after the 1999-2002 conflict. This research is a literature study (library research). This type of research is a qualitative research using a historical approach. The findings of this study prove that Pela Gandong as a medium for conflict resolution is more effective for the social historical reconstruction of Salam-Sarane, which is based on the integration of the value system contained in Pela Gandong, namely; brotherhood between countries, solidarity, harmony, and religiosity. These values become the basis for maintaining the integrity of inter-religious life in Ambon.
