Abstract

The musical composition "Papatean" is based on the story of the murder of the first missionary in Toraja, namely A. A. van de Loodstrech (called Anton) in 1917. Studying history is certainly important because it is full of values??for a better future. After Anton's death, the growth of the congregation in the Toraja Church continued to improve, until it spread internationally. Apart from that, the creation of this musical work aims to remember and appreciate the struggle and dedication of Anton and his wife, who have given their entire lives to God and the Toraja people. Their arrival brought the Gospel as well as the beginning of education in Toraja. The theory used in producing this work is about musical composition, musical harmony, instruments, and program music including narratives, vocals, and scales. The musical instruments used are the Lembang Flute, Piano, Violin, Viola, Violoncello, Contrabass, Floor, Cymbals, Chimes, and Vocals. The method used is the creation method, with several stages, namely (1) Data collection stage (2) Idea stage (3) Exploration stage (4) Implementation stage (5) Formation stage. The work "Papatean" was worked on in three parts, namely part I: Petamba (A, B), part II: Sitiro Lindo (A, B), and part III: Papatean (A, B, C, D).

Abstract

Gending "Kawitan" is a musical repertoire in the form of sekar- gending that must be presented in Wayang Golek Purwa performances. In its presentation, sekar-gending "Kawitan" has a very important role in the unity of Wayang Golek's performance as a whole. The purpose of writing this article is to reveal the role of sekar-gending "Kawitan" in Wayang Golek's performance based on its musical communication aspects. The method used is descriptive qualitative by conducting interviews with puppet artists and analyzing documents from several video recordings that have been broadcast online. Based on this method, the sekar-gending "Kawitan" has four parts: Kawitan Gancang, Kawitan Kendor, Bata Rubuh, and Gending Badaya. In terms of its role, gending "Kawitan" at least has a role as an instrumental music presentation, as a song presentation (vocals and instruments), as an illustration, and accompaniment for the puppeteer during Murwa, and as an accentuation in the ibing maktal scene. From the results of a section-by-section study, sekar-gending "Kawitan” has a tight structure and high musical communication complexity, due to the many interactions between musicians.

Abstract

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a very well-known classical music composer. It doesn't matter whether you are a classical music enthusiast or just a casual listener. You would have heard about Mozart. This research delves into the intricate musical landscape of Mozart's Sonata in C Minor, employing a descriptive qualitative analysis to unravel the underlying structural form within the composition. Focusing on the examination of the sonata's score, the study aims to elucidate the organization and interplay of musical elements made by Mozart in shaping this enduring masterpiece. In conclusion, this research aspires to contribute valuable insights into the formal architecture of Mozart's Sonata in C Minor, unraveling the intricacies that define its structural integrity. The qualitative descriptive analysis offers a nuanced exploration of the musical score, providing a foundation for future scholarly discussions and fostering a heightened appreciation for the timeless artistry of Mozart. The findings of the research showed the musical intrigues of Mozart's Sonata in C Minor. In conclusion, the analysis not only enriches the existing literature but also presents implications for both theoretical and practical applications in musicology and performance practice.

Abstract

Researchers compared the Prelude BWV 998 by Johann Sebastian Bach, the transcriptions of Andres Segovia and Frederick Zigante. The background is to increase the understanding of the general public, especially players and music students with major guitar instruments, about how to interpret Baroque music correctly, because this composition was originally not for the guitar instrument but the lute. The method that researchers use is a qualitative method because it does not use numbers in this research process. The object of this research is Prelude is the opening composition of Prelude-Fuga-Allegro BWV 998 which was transcribed into guitar score by Andres Segovia and Frederick Zigante. Data collection was carried out by means of documentation and observation. The results of this research show that there are several differences in transcription including; playing techniques, such as the use of legato, finger positions, especially the left hand, interpretation signs, and different strings for the same note. This difference in transcription will greatly influence the guitar player's playing because it is adapted to the transcription style, thereby changing the character of the original composition.

Abstract

This paper is a study of the transformation of the structure and form of music in the marriage ceremony of the Simalungun community in Jakarta. With changes in the way of working and dynamic cultural thinking, the Simalungun community in Jakarta "negotiated" with the presence of Uning-uningan and wind music (keyboard), despite the impact of killing traditional music (Gonrang) which has become a musical identity so far. The focus of this research is to review the sound changes from the Gonrang Sidua-Dua music structure to uning-uningan or Batak toba music using Simon Waters's "Acoustic to Electroacoustic" theory as an analysis tool. The method of this research is qualitative, namely by field observation of Simalungun marriage places, interviews with Simalungun traditional leaders, and recording documentation. The use of keyboards in Simalungun wedding customs in Jakarta shows a change from traditional gondang sounds to gondang sounds in the keyboard and changes in the sound of uning-uningan which was previously gondang hasapi (traditional Toba Batak musical instrument) after being combined with brass bands or wind music and the use of sound systems resulting in changes in acoustic sound to electroacoustic. Besides the difficulty of the existence of gondang music from the traditional side, the value of modernization has benefits such as preservation and revitalization of traditional music, one of which is through the institution of marriage, namely by practicing editing technology and sampling styles or rhythms that are widely used today such as Gondang tor-tor, Rumba odak-odak, Patam- patam Karo, and Simalungun rayat on the Keyboard. The results of this research show that music technology using keyboards in the uning-uningan group through the process of editing styles and sounds is one way to preserve traditional Simalungun music which is gradually becoming extinct.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that students with disabilities often have limitations in their cognitive abilities, making it challenging for them to comprehend learning materials delivered by teachers. The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of music learning as therapy to enhance emotional intelligence in students with disabilities. This qualitative descriptive research utilized data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis involved data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and technique triangulation. The research subjects included music teachers, classroom teachers, and five students with disabilities. The results revealed that singing was the primary form of music learning taught to students with disabilities at SDLB N 1 Yogyakarta. This approach had a positive impact on the emotional intelligence of these students, enabling them to better control their emotions during the learning process. Students with disabilities demonstrated improvements in various components of emotional intelligence. The study identified supportive factors such as facilities, infrastructure, and learning components, as well as inhibiting factors related to students' conditions during the learning process. This research contributes to the understanding of music learning as a form of emotional intelligence therapy for students with disabilities.

Abstract

This Study examines the implementation of spectrogram and Sonic Visualizer tools in the performance analysis of classical music. Traditional methods of performance feedback often rely on subjective verbal criticism, which can be inconsistent and influenced by personal biases. This study highlights the limitations of these traditional approaches and the challenges posed by reliance on memory. Spectrograms and Sonic Visualizer provide objective, visual feedback that can reveal intricate patterns and details in musical performances not easily discernible through auditory perception alone. These tools offer precise feedback on pitch and timing, which is especially beneficial in educational settings. The study analyzes four key articles: Yasushi Ueda's investigation of tempo rubato in Chopin’s Nocturne Op.15-2, Cook & Leech-Wilkinson's guide to Sonic Visualizer, Garner's thesis on Schubert's Winterreise, and Gardiner and Latartara’s examination of Beethoven's "Hammerklavier" sonata. These studies demonstrate how features such as tempo and dynamic visualization, harmonic analysis, and beat detection aid performers in evaluating rhythmic accuracy, consistency, and interpretative choices. Moreover, the review identifies gaps in existing research, particularly the need for more comprehensive studies on the effectiveness of Sonic Visualizer across different classical instruments and its impact on performers' interpretative skills. The findings suggest that regular use of these tools can enhance performers' decision-making processes, creativity, and overall artistic growth. This study underscores the significant benefits of integrating advanced audio-visual tools into classical music performance analysis, providing a deeper understanding and more accurate assessment of musical interpretations.

Abstract

Kerta Wijaya developed Kenclung bamboo art as a form of self-motivation in response to the dissatisfaction of farm laborers with agricultural products. The Gerduren Village community has implemented Kenclung art as a means of communication and entertainment while maintaining their rice fields. The researcher looks at the values in the Kenclung art based on the justifications. This study is qualitative. This study is being conducted in Gerduren, Banyumas Regency. Document studies, interviews, and observation were the methods used to obtain data. Triangulation is the data validity approach applied in this study. One method of data analysis was the Miles and Huberman model analysis. Axiological values were used to assess the Kenclung results. The activity reflects the divine value of many bamboo art values that are used in the study. Examples include the importance of religion in earthly alms, the reflection of a decent life in visiting family members, and the importance of truth in the community's traditional attire. The Banyumas community's ideals and customs are upheld by these garments, and beauty is judged by how people relate to one another, to God, and the natural world.
