Abstract

The spreading of Islam is one of the dynamic aspects of America. Islam has been brought to America by various people from different ethnicities, nationalities, and community backgrounds. This makes Islam in America appears in so many faces. One of the big moments of the history of Islam in America is the immigrant wave from Middle East which created new domination amongst American Muslims. This paper discusses one of the prominent figures from that era whose influences are big enough at that time and can still be seen today in America: Ismail Raji al-Faruqi. The researcher used a library study in writing this paper by using writings of al-Faruqi as primary data sources and other researchers’ writings as secondary data sources. This research concluded that there was some sort of dynamics of influence between al-Faruqi and America. It means that on one hand, al-Faruqi influenced Islam in America, but on the other hand, American social-cultural conditions also influenced al-Faruqi at some level.

Abstract

The Hajj pilgrimage is one of the largest annual mass gatherings in the world, and has been held for a long time. This study presents an overview of a systematic research of published literature on the Role of the Governments of Indonesia and Saudi Arabia in organizing of the Hajj pilgrimage from 2015 until 2021 Period, with the aim of providing policy recommendations for the future. From this research, it can be concluded that the implementation of Hajj pilgirmage in Indonesia is strongly influenced by the bilateral relations between the two countries. This can be seen from a historical perspective, since Indonesia's independence there were quite a lot of pilgrims from Indonesia. The relationship between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia has been established from colonial era until now. In the future, bilateral relations between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia in the context of organizing the Hajj will continue to be intensified. Considering that for the past 2 years, Indonesia has not sent hajj pilgrims due to the pandemic, as well as Saudi Arabia which has not opened its doors for hajj pilgrims outside of Arabia for 2 years, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia good governance diplomacy is the solution for better implementation of the Hajj Pilgrimage in the future.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The Indonesian Sharia Capital Market is an interesting thing to study because based on the 2019 Global Islamic Finance Report (GIFR) report, Indonesia is ranked first in the Global Sharia Financial Market. This study will try to uncover how the relationship between macroeconomic variables in Indonesia by using Vector Autoregression (VAR) analysis and using monthly secondary data from 2012-2019. VAR analysis which has advantages including multivariate, free from spurious endogeneity and exogeneity variables and can detect relationships between variables in the equation system. The results of this study indicate that the JII of the previous period and the BI Rate have a positive influence on JII, while inflation and the Rupiah-US Dollar Exchange rate have a negative relationship with JII. The implication of the results of this study is to strengthen the rupiah price which greatly affects JII. Keywords: Shariah stock, JII, Macroeconomics, VAR.

Abstract

The internet has liberalized political discussion in Nigeria, and enhanced public debates on trending social, economic, religious, and political issues on the various platforms it harbours, such as the social media, online news sites and blogs among others. Online comments sections of news sites enable readers for instance, to discuss issues raised in the news from their individual points of view. This development facilitates interaction among news producers and consumers, and serves as effective feedback mechanism. However, previous researches have established disturbing trends on the platforms, bordering on a seaming inclination of discourse to ethnic, religious and regional schmaltziness. This portends damning implications on the age-long unity in diversity question in Nigeria. This study, therefore, undertakes a qualitative discourse analysis of comments on the various online news platforms vis-à-vis this ‘all important’ unity in diversity question. Specific attention was paid to the ideological leanings of the comments in terms of regional, ethnic and religious affiliations of commentators, with the aim to interrogate how these divides are forced into discourse on the platforms, and the implications on the unity and continuous corporate existence of the multicultural Nigeria.

Abstract

Based on Indonesian-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA), Indonesia sends some nurses (perawat) who would be employed either as hospital nurses (perawat rumah sakit) or as care workers for the elderly (perawat lansia). Nurses who work in Japanese hospitals are required to meet Japanese nursing standards, through a competency test of Japanese nursing standards. This article discusses how Indonesian care workers adapt to working conditions while being in Japan and about the problem of nurses with Indonesian qualifications working with Japanese competency standards. This study is qualitative research using a survey method. The data collection technique used in this study was a questionnaire via google form. This study uses the theory of liminality to explain the adaptation process and the problems faced by Indonesian care workers in Japan. This study found out that there was a gap between what had been expected and what had been faced by Indonesian nurses (especially who were originally medical nurses) working in Japan, so that the “care workers” chose to return home and started to build a career in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to finds out causal factors for Czech Republic yet to decide on phasing out coal-fired power plant and the impact of delaying the preparation of the coal-fired power plant phase-out plan by Czech on the EU's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The researcher conducts an analysis based on two research questions: what are causal factors for Czech Republic yet to decide on phasing out coal-fired power plant and what impact will it have on the EU's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and become fully carbon neutral by 2050. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative approach and literature review. The findings of this study are as follows: first, environmental and health reasons are the main reasons for the EU's decision to phasing out coal and other forms of fossil energy. The EU targets to cut emissions by 2030 and become fully carbon neutral by 2050. Second, Yet, Prague continues to mine coal since it is the only domestic-energy-source and made Czech become energy exporter. Czech has to import crude oil, natural gas and uranium for nuclear reactors. Third, Coal survives in Czech as politician and former politician support it. Czech coal industry also indirectly received support from the local mass media. Czech mass media almost never associate coal issues with climate change and other environmental and health issues. Concern on coal in Czech Coal often raised from the perspective of job opportunities, regional economic resilience, and energy security.

Abstract

The government implements social assistance programs for poor families and vulnerable groups. Therefore, the implementation is still facing various challenges. One of the toughest challenges is smoking behaviour. As the income has been increasing, the cigarette’s expense is also high. Cigarette’s expenditure substitutes other basic needs, such as nutritional foods, health, and education expenses. This study analyses smoking behaviour in social assistance recipients and its impact on quality of life. By using qualitative method, particularly the Rapid Assessment Procedure, data were obtained through in-depth interviews. The study uses purposive method to collect samples in East Java, both Malang City and Kediri Regency. Results show that all the informants have family members who were heavy smokers. The daily cigarette’s expenditure of social assistance’s recipients was significant compared to their daily expenses. It substitutes basic needs expenses and affects their quality of life specifically for nutritional, health, and child’s education status. Furthermore, due to nicotine addiction, it is very difficult for smokers to reduce the number of cigarette consumption, even though at difficult economies. Smoking behaviour also leads to family conflicts. It is important to regulate social assistance recipients who still disburse their budget for temptation goods such as cigarette. In addition, government must inform the negative impacts of smoking, as well as promote the healthy life behaviour using the existing program, Family Capacity Building Meeting/Pertemuan Peningkatan Kemampuan Keluarga (P2K2). As part of effective solutions to reduce smoking prevalence, unaffordable cigarette price is important due to lowering the consumption of addictive product.
