Abstract

Meaning cannot be transfered well if there is errorin grammar. This paper aims to determine the grammar errors committed by the 6th semester students of English Education Department as basis for new method. Specifically, the study aims to answer: 1) what grammar errors are committed by the 6th semester students of English Education in their written text; and 2) what factors caused the students to commit these errors in writing as evident on their written composition. The respondents of this study consisted of english education students, Semester 6. Result showed that the common grammar errors committed by the 6th semester students of English Education are: verb f, tenses of the verb, sentence structure and word order, the use of articles and preposition, punctuation and capitalization, and spelling. 2 Big factors as the cause of errors are : direct factors and indirect factors.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the linguistic form of expressive utterancesand describe the intentions of expressive utterance in status updates on social media Blackberry Messanger (BBM) used by students of STKIP PGRI Tulungagung. It is descriptive qualitative research which the writer uses documentation and observation method as the method of collecting data. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research which the writer uses documentation and observation method as the method of collecting data. There are 20 data of expressive utterance. There are seven kinds of expressive utterance from fifty data found in status update BBM. They are word, verb phrase, adjective phrase, noun phrase, declarative sentence, impertive sentence, and exclamatory sentence. The types of expressive utterance found in status update on BBM dominated by declarative sentence. The intention of expressive utterance are yearning, anger expression, welcoming, congratulating, tiredness, hoping, happiness, love,  thanking, sadness, sorrow, worrying, like, dislike, apologizing, pleasure, shock, and longing.

Abstract

This report aimed at measuring the effectiveness of Edmodo to teach English grammar. Edmodo as an online instructional media was used to teach English grammar. This research used quantitative approach with a pre experimental research design. The second semester students of English Department STKIP PGRI Tulungagung were taken as the sample of this study. Since there is no control group, the second semester students were assigned as the experimental group. One group pretest-posttest research design was used. From the analysis, it was found that the mean of the pretest was 59.47 and the mean of the posttest was 73.48. Based the test of assumptions, the data was found to be not parametric. So, the analysis using Wilcoxon test was used to test the hypothesis. The result the significant value (.027) was lower than level of significant .05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the students have significantly better grammatical mastery after being taught using Edmodo.

Abstract

Humans are social creatures that interact with each other. A language is a communication tool used to interact, every human development has a language development whose proportions are not the same. Starting with babies, children, adolescents to adults have different language development. And therefore the learning obtained is also different. How are language development and implications for development? In this paper use the library research. The result, the ability of language greatly affects the success of learning and cognitive development of children. Language facilitates teacher communication with students in teaching and learning activities. One of the factors that influence the success of learning is the effective use of language in every learning starting from planning, implementation, and assessment.

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to improve students’speaking skill through storytelling technique toward eleventh grade students at the first semester 2016/2017 academic year of SMK Swasta Cimanggis Depok. The researcher applied qualitative research, a classroom action research. This research used three cycles. Each of cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing , and reflecting. The subject of the research was the eleventh grade students of SMK Swasta Cimanggis in academic year 2016/2017 that consisted of 22 males and females. The researcher collected data using observation, test, and discussion that was needed at the time of research. This research employs describe the process in which the researcher using teaching speaking especially in English speaking. The result research in Improving the Students’ Speaking Skill Through Storytelling Technique showed an increasing percentage and average score. Cycle 1 was 45% or the average score of 66,40, in cycle 2 was 77% or the average score of 73,22, in cycle 3 was 91% or the average of 75,61. It proved that students’ speaking skill taught by storytelling seemed to increase.

Abstract

This paper presents the literature on reading comprehension and analyzes the influence of problems on students’ strategy use. Reading comprehension is one of the skill in English so the students must master that skill with the right strategies.The necessity of integrating social and individual problems in the studies of learning strategy, especially individual problems affecting the improvement of reading comprehension is made explicit, and this is followed by the description of situational problems and individual problems such as motivation, age, sex, and personality.

Abstract

Blended learning is a blend of two learning models, namely face-to-face learning and online learning / e-learning. The purpose of blended learning is to stimulate and foster students learning motivation. This article discusses blended learning studies that are applied in appreciation literary classes. There are 3 learning models focused in this study. The first is Persenolized online learning, small group discussions and project online presentations. The 7th semester students become research subjects. They are 18 students. from the results of the 3 methods applied during the 5 months of learning, it is obtained that the combination of the three models is very suitable to be used as a method in teaching literary appreciation. It can be concluded that the instructional model is appropriately determined by the suitability of educational model, technique and method of learning, and also facilities and infrastructure readines.

Abstract

Some concepts in English grammar usually confuse students such as the use of articles and tenses. More interesting learning methods such as flipped class and e-learning using video are needed to improve students’ understanding about English grammar. The purpose of this paper is to convey the making process of instructional video for students of Basic Grammar Classes of the English Program, Vocational College, Universitas Gadjah Mada. There are two instructional videos made consisting of two topics; quantifiers and forms of others. The making process was from June to September 2018. The results show that the making process of instructional videos includes video content preparation, shooting process and editing. Video content making includes compiling materials, writing script and arranging storyboard. Meanwhile the shooting and editing processes were handled by a professional video maker. The constraints faced during the shooting process were the difficulty to act naturally and to remember the lines also problem of sound noise. The use of animation also becomes constraint in editing process since more time and energy were consumed to finish the video.

In developing national education, having qualified teachers is undeniable need. This considers the important role of teachers in the process of education. Qualified teachers refer to those who have standard competence and professionalism. This paper described the theory of teacher certification and the practice in educational world and what certification do to teachers today. The researchers delivered questionnaires to 50 authoritative teacher in order to know the activity during PLPG.

Abstract

This study was aimed to investigate the correlation between students’ knowledge on topic to be written and their ability to write. The writing course for the second semester students of English Department of STKIP PGRI Tulungagung is Academic Reading and Writing. In this course, the students should be able to develop their competence in reading academic essays as well as composing the essays using the correct organization. However, it has been observed that their ability to write the essays are in relation with their knowledge on the topic to be written. From the findings, it can be concluded that the hypothesis can be accepted since the statistical analysis using Kendal Tau showed that the coefficient of the correlation was positive medium correlation 0.473 and the correlation was significant (0.016 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is significant correlation between students’ knowledge on topic to be written and their writing ability and the students with better knowledge on topics also have better writing ability.
