Abstract

This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of corn gluten feed as corn substitution in the rations on swine carcass quality and economic analysis. The rations consisted of different levels of corn gluten feed (0%, 20%, 35% and 50%) as corn substitution. The portion of corn was 30% in grower ration and 25% in finisher ration. A completely randomized design was used in this research. Slaughtered weight, carcass weight, carcass percentage, carcass length, backfat thickness and loin eye area were observed. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance. The results showed that corn gluten feed did not significantly affect all parameters of carcass quality. Economic analysis showed that the use of corn gluten feed as corn substitution on swine rations produced lower profit. Key words : corn gluten feed, carcass quality, swine

Abstract

A study on morphological body conformation of Cihateup, Cirebon and Mojosari ducks was carried out to determine the genetic distance and discriminant variables. The research was done at PT Dwi Mitra Daq, Gunung Sindur, Bogor, using 30 Cihateup, 30 Cirebon and 30 Mojosari ducks, from September to November 2004. Length of neck, wing, circumference of chest, deep chest, body weight, circumference of tarsometatarsus, length of chest, third digit, tarsometatarsus, tibia, femur and maxilla were measured to observe their body sizes to determine the genetic distance and discriminant variables. Data obtained were analyzed by using GLM (General Linear Model) and simple discriminant analysis with SAS package program version 6.12 and program MEGA2 to make the construction of tree fenograms. Cihateup ducks had larger body size (i.e. length of neck, wing, circumference of chest, deep chest, length of third digit and femur) than Cirebon and Mojosari ducks, but were smaller on length of tarsometatarsus than Mojosari ducks. Results from canonical analysis showed that the most discriminant variables were obtained from the length of third digit tarsometatarsus, tibia and femur. Cihateup ducks were mixed with Cirebon ducks (36,67%), Cirebon ducks were mixed with Cihateup ducks (43,33%) and Mojosari ducks (3,33%), Mojosari ducks were mixed with Cihateup ducks (3,33%) and Cirebon ducks (13,33%). Mahalanobis genetic distance showed that Cihateup and Cirebon ducks had a genetic distance of 0,880, Cihateup and Mojosari, and, Cirebon and Mojosari had 1,786. Abstract

An addition of crude enzyme from A. niger and T. viride was done to increase nutrien quality of wheat bran with an addition of commercial enzyme as a comparison. Nutrient composition, metabolizable energy and performance of broiler were parameters observed to evaluate the improvement. Enzymes from A. niger, T. viride and commercial enzyme were capable of decreasing fiber and increasing metabolizable energy of wheat bran. Crude fiber content of wheat bran decreased by 14.86%, 8.24% and 0.36%, true metabolizable energy increased by 8.25%, 7.98% and 2.22% when wheat bran was treated with enzymes from A. niger, T. viride and commercial enzyme, respectively. Except for wheat bran treated with commercial enzyme, utilization of wheat bran-treated enzymes from A. niger and T. viride could increase feed intake, daily gain and final weight of broilers. However, the enzyme addition did not improve feed conversion. It is concluded that the addition of enzymes from A. niger and T. viride could improve nutrient quality of wheat bran. Key words : wheat bran, crude enzymes, T. viride, A. niger, broilers

Abstract

Data performan ayam petelur dianalisis sidik ragam (analyses of variance/ANOVA), sedangkan data vitamin A dalam telur dianalisis secara deskriptif. Kata kunci : asam fitat, fitase, zinc, vitamin A, ayam petelur

Abstract

The objective of feed production process is to generate high quality of feed with parameters, such as good physical, nutrition characteristics, continuous, palatability and safety. It is needed to support the optimum performance of production process. The general objective of this research was to study quality control system and application of quality management in feed production industry. The objective in this research was to design an expert system for feed quality control based on basic knowledge through knowledge acquisition. Model was designed through two steps, i.e. (1) preparation, and (2) development. System development consisted of (a) basic knowledge development in knowledge acquisition, knowledge conceptualization, and knowledge representation, (b) development of inference mechanism, (c) coding, and (d) verification. The Expert System showed that if data out of control, then process was on uncontrollable condition. The Expert System would interpret the causes and recommend the solution that should be done by supervisors/operators. Key words : expert system, feed, quality, process

Abstract

This research was conducted to investigate the antibacterial activity of powder of temulawak, ginger and garlic to S.typhimurium using modified agar well method. Preliminary study showed that garlic powder had the best antibacterial activity, therefore it was further tested in a feeding trial to evaluate the effect on growth performance and immune response in broiler chicken challenged with S. typhimurium (ST). Experimental treatments were arranged in Completely Randomized Design with four treatment and three replications (Negative control, positive control, garlic powder and tetracycline). Seventy-two Day-Old-Chickens with body weight 46,7 g strain “Hubbard Wonokoyo” were used in a 28 days experiment. Broiler chickens were fed garlic powder and tetracycline diets for 10 days and then challenged orally with ST 4,1 x 1011 cfu. Body weight, feed intake and salmonella colony in faeces were monitored. Blood serum was collected at 18-d after infection. Results indicated that there was no significant effect of garlic powder on body weight and feed intake, but feed intake tended to decrease. However, feed conversion ratio of ration with garlic powder was better than rations with tetracycline and other treatments. Salmonella population in faeces also decreased with addition of garlic powder in diets. Total protein serum was influenced by disease challenged. Serum immunoglobulin (gamma globulin) was not influenced by disease challenged, but addition garlic powder in diet tended to increase gamma-globulin concentration. It can be concluded that garlic powder has antibacterial activity to S.typhimurium. Furthermore, this result indicated that some beneficial effect of dietary garlic powder at 2,5% supplementation on growth performance and no effect on immune response in the presence of ST-challenge. Abstract

Protein has the role in the development of physiological structure and body immunity system. Reproductive hormones, gametogenesis and fetus development are very much affected by the content of protein, vitamin A and E. Vitamin A is known to have a role in the integrity of epithel tissue, thus it has a great effect on the process of gametogenesis and embryogenesis. Vitamin E is recognized as an anti-sterility vitamin because of its important role as an intercellular antioxidant, in absorbing and storing vitamin A. This research was intended to determine the effect of protein content (15%, 18% and 21%), vitamin A (2000 IU/kg of feed), and vitamin E (30 mg/kg of feed) on body weight and some characteristics of reproduction of white mice (Rattus novergicus). The reproduction characteristics observed on female were the litter size and their body weight at birth, whereas those on male were fertility and morphology of spermatozoa. The research results showed that there were some effects of protein, vitamin A and E on increased body weight of female. The best result with a significant change (P
