Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to describe the synergy between stakeholders in revitalizing tourist destinations to support sustainable tourism in Way Tebabeng, North Lampung. Methods: The research was conducted using a descriptive-qualitative approach, and the data collection techniques are in the form of interviews, observations, and documentation. Results: The results show that the synergy of stakeholders is not optimal due to the one-way communication, leading to coordination which only takes place at the beginning. The inhibiting factors for the revitalization of the Way Tebabeng destination are the lack of budget, leaders, and human resource factors. Limitation: This study uses a qualitative approach with a limited level of generalization. Therefore, it should be reviewed with other approaches and wider research locations. Contribution: The revitalization of tourism destinations in terms of synergy between stakeholders was reviewed as the basis for developing policies, especially in local communities.

Abstract

Purpose: Wildlife tourism industry as a form of nature-based tourism was a rapidly growing niche market segment & has developed a revenue platform for many economies. Outstretching the Pandemic of COVID-19, badly hit with wildlife tourism sector too. Nevertheless, it is a contemporary need to rejuvenate the current market segments to reconstruct tourism industry potentials. This study explores the ways and means to revival of wildlife tourism operations with the challenges of COVID-19. Methodology/approach: This study used a qualitative research approach. Primary data was collected from 16 wildlife service providers at Minneriya national park using the purposive sampling technique. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. Results/findings: The study's findings revealed operational, financial, labor-related, communication, technology & economic impact as the existing challenges in wildlife tourism operations during pandemics & introducing recreational activities, health & safety measures, technology, policy planning, etc. should be key priorities to revive the wildlife tourism sector in a post-COVID-19 scenario. Limitations: The study limited to the Minneriya National Park and given the number of existing national parks in Sri Lanka, the geographical region is comparatively smaller. Contribution: The outcome of this study recommends the Sri Lankan policy makers to identify the gaps to promote wildlife tourism from the perspective of service providers. The pandemic has created a sustainable platform to rejuvenate the wildlife tourism which it has been enabled to address the issues in long-term. Novelty: Based on the results, there should be strong transformational strategies to avoid the worst effects of future operation: such as government involvement, financial facilities, promotions, and research & development. This study identified a response mechanism to attract travelers to achieve a niche market segment. It will manifest the significance to the future generation, policymakers, and academic students to grab value scale for future operation in new normal conditions and post-COVID-19.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the potential that Ngada Regency has as a Muslim minority area in developing halal tourism, as well as the efforts that must be made to support this potential so that it can be applied. Research Methodology: The research method used is descriptive qualitative research. Primary data sources were obtained through interviews with fourteen respondents, including; the Indonesian Ulema Council of Ngada Regency, the Ministry of Islamic Religion of Ngada Regency, the Ngada Regency Tourism Office, Islamic religious leaders, and local Muslim tourists. Results: The results of this study show that Ngada Regency has the opportunity to implement halal tourism, judging from the tourism potential it has, including; marine parks of 17 islands, beaches, mountains, hills, waterfalls, craters, hot springs, and traditional villages. The available tourist attractions are the main attractions and characteristics that distinguish Ngada Regency from other districts in East Nusa Tenggara. Then, judging from the enthusiasm of local Muslim tourists visiting tourist destinations, Ngada Regency has the opportunity to implement halal tourism. However, the facilities and infrastructure available in tourist destinations and lodging places must follow halal tourism principles. Limitations: This study has limited data coverage in an Eastern Indonesia region that has a Muslim minority demographic. Contributions: The study is the first to examine the potential of halal tourism in eastern Indonesia with the condition of the Muslim minority population. Novelty: This study makes a valuable contribution to the study of the development of halal tourism in eastern Indonesia, which has a Muslim minority demographic.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to identify the challenges and opportunities related to sustainable resort-related tourism growth in Montalban, Rizal, and the Philippines. Research Methodology:  This study collected data from resort managers/operators and employees in Montalban using thematic analysis. The data were analyzed using systems theory to identify the interconnection of the economic, social, and environmental components of sustainable resort development. Results: The study found that resorts in Montalban are commercially viable, but environmental and social sustainability has been compromised since their founding and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The overexploitation of natural resources by resorts has led to concerns about groundwater level and water quality, while employees are subjected to precarious work and low income. Limitations: This study was limited by the sample size of the resorts in Montalban. Contributions: This study contributes to the current knowledge of sustainable resort-related tourism growth in rural destinations, particularly tourism destinations in the Philippines. This research seeks to educate policymakers, other tourism stakeholders, and local tourism communities on the need to shift their focus to more sustainable development. Novelty: This study pioneers the investigation of sustainability in resort-related tourism growth in the Philippines using the case of Montalban Rizal and the use of the system model in the qualitative study of sustainability in tourism destinations.

Abstract

Purpose: The primary goal is to identify the existing knowledge on carbon-neutral tourism gained from 2005 to 2023. Research Methodology: To accomplish the research purpose, a systematic literature review (SLR) approach and preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines were used to address the research objective. Through methodical literature research, bibliometric analysis, and the use of the VOS viewer software, all chosen papers were thoroughly reviewed, summarized, and synthesized. Results: Combining The Google Scholar, Emerald Insight, and Lens.ORG databases resulted in 43 articles. An increasing variety of tourism destinations are planning to become "carbon neutral" as pressure on the tourism industry to reduce greenhouse gas emissions grows. This is because tourism is now widely acknowledged as a significant contributor to global climate change due to the significant greenhouse gas emissions associated with air travel. Overlay visualization shows that there has been a high demand for carbon-neutral tourism since 2021. Contributions: They want to minimize their impact on global warming while simultaneously expanding their tourism industries by enhancing their reputation as green, environmentally conscious, and sustainable destinations.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to determine how Ghana's small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) performed in terms of growth during the COVID-19 pandemic. Research Methodology: This study adopted a quantitative research method, alongside descriptive and explanatory research designs. Primary data were gathered from 400 SMEs in the general trading and manufacturing industries. Descriptive statistical analyses and Pearson multiple regression analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSvs.26) and XL Stats. Results: The most critical challenges faced by SMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic include a decrease in sales revenue, followed by the inability of SMEs to pay staff, retrenchment of workers, shortages of raw materials, halted operations, difficulty in supplying goods and services, inability to repay loans, insufficient capital, cash flow shortages, accounting deficiencies, and the least critical challenge associated with a lack of advanced technology. The next major finding was that lockdowns, movement restrictions, social distancing, and market closures had significant negative effects on SMEs’ growth. Limitations: Varied responses from SMEs in other regions and industries in the country were not gathered. Furthermore, the research instrument ignored the direct views of SME owners and managers regarding the challenges they encountered. Contributions: The findings are important for entrepreneurs and managers of SMEs, financial institutions, government, and other stakeholders for decision-making purposes. Novelty: The effect of the pandemic has mostly been linked to financial performance. No study in the Ghanaian context has investigated the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the growth of trading and manufacturing SMEs.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the relationship between workers' perspectives on communication, recognition, productivity, and their involvement in the Readymade Garment (RMG) sector policymaking. Research Methodology:  A sample of 226 individuals from the RMG sector in Bangladesh was surveyed using a well-designed questionnaire. The data were examined, and the study's hypotheses were tested, using the statistical program SPSS V.25. In IBM SPSS, the chi-square test and other statistical techniques were used to examine the data. The study investigates the relationship between the independent variables, including communication, employee recognition, and productivity, and the dependent variable, worker perception, using a conceptual framework. Results: There is a positive and significant relationship between employees' perceptions of communication and their involvement in the decision-making process. The study also shows that there is a positive and significant association between workers' perceptions of employee recognition, productivity, and involvement in decision-making in Bangladesh's RMG industry. Additionally, the organization's decision-making process is significantly impacted by employee participation. Limitations: While many studies examined the workers’ participation in decision-making in the various sectors, only a few studies have focused on the RMG sectors to explore the effects of communication, employee recognition, and productivity on the workers’ participation in decision-making. Contributions: The study reveals that the organization’s total effectiveness is reflected in how deeply workers are involved in decision-making. The degree of involvement is a key determining element since encouraging people to engage instead of just dragging them along is essential for enhancing performance and ensuring commitment.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze tourists' perspectives regarding the sustainability of four tourism destinations, namely Sedudo Waterfall, Roro Kuning, TRAL, and Margo Tresno Cave in Nganjuk East Java, Indonesia. Moreover, this study attempts to reveal tourists' sustainability awareness based on the triplebottom-line concept and which dimensions are considered the most important for tourists. Research Methodology:  Data were obtained from a survey of visitors (16 years old and over) to the four tourist objects in Nganjuk. Furthermore, this study utilized Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and ANOVA tests to evaluate the differences between types of tourists and their views on sustainability. Results: The number of types of tourists found in the Nganjuk tourist destination was change, amusement, rupture, interest, and dedication. The ANOVA test results show a different tourist perception of sustainability issues from the five types of tourists in Nganjuk. Limitations: This study involved only young respondents who did not consider tourists beyond a young age. In addition, this study focused only on one regency in Indonesia. Contributions: To create a tourism industry that can last and protect the environment, the vital role of tourists cannot be ignored. This research makes a theoretical contribution by expanding the theory to explain aspects that have never been studied before regarding tourists' understanding of the sustainability issue in the tourism sector. Novelty: This study is one of the first to discuss tourists' perceptions of sustainability issues in the Indonesian context.
