Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the influence of cultural values, local wisdom, and marketing strategies on tourists’ purchase intention toward Incoang Batik souvenirs in Sungai Penuh, as well as the role of Incoang Batik in preserving Kerinci cultural identity and the traditional Incoang script. Methodology: This study employed a quantitative explanatory research approach using survey methods through questionnaire distribution to tourists and consumers who had seen, recognized, or purchased Incoang Batik in Sungai Penuh. The independent variables were cultural values, local wisdom, and marketing strategy, while the dependent variable was tourists’ purchase intention. Results: The findings revealed that cultural values had a positive and significant influence on tourists’ purchase intention toward Incoang Batik souvenirs in Sungai Penuh. In contrast, local wisdom and marketing strategy showed no significant influence. However, simultaneously, all three variables significantly affected tourists’ purchase intention, contributing 10.4% to its variance. Conclusions: The study concludes that cultural values constitute the most influential factor in increasing tourists’ purchase intention toward Incoang Batik souvenirs. Limitations: In addition, the research relied on questionnaire-based responses and employed a quantitative approach that could not deeply explore tourists’ cultural interpretations and experiences of Incoang Batik. Contributions: This study contributes to the development of cultural tourism and the creative economy literature by integrating cultural values, local wisdom, and marketing strategy into one research model.

Abstract

Purpose: Few studies have applied sentiment analysis to identify service improvement priorities from Airbnb guest reviews. Therefore, this study aims to analyze guest review sentiments to generate insights for improving service quality and increasing reservations. Methodology: A quantitative computational approach was applied to 599 Airbnb guest reviews collected via API scraping. Reviews were processed in Python, transformed using term frequency-inverse TF-IDF, and classified using the Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm. A word cloud was used to visualize the key review topics. Results: The proposed SVM model achieved an accuracy of 98.33 %, demonstrating a robust sentiment classification performance. Most reviews (94.4%) expressed positive sentiments, highlighting property quality, host hospitality, and stay experience, whereas negative reviews (5.5%) primarily concerned cleanliness and facility maintenance. These findings identify key service attributes for improving guest satisfaction and supporting future reservations in the hospitality industry. Conclusions: Guest perceptions are largely positive, indicating high satisfaction, although negative reviews remain important to be addressed. These findings demonstrate that sentiment analysis can identify service improvement priorities to enhance service quality and increase reservation numbers. Limitations: This study focused on analyzing guest sentiment toward Tri Datu Properties on the Airbnb platform with 599 data entries. Contributions: This study extends the Expectation Confirmation Theory by integrating sentiment analysis and machine learning to transform large-scale Airbnb reviews into actionable insights for hospitality decision-making.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze guest sentiment expressed in TripAdvisor reviews of Conrad Bali using the Multinomial Naïve Bayes algorithm to identify service attributes discussed by guests and generate evidence-based managerial insights that support hotel performance enhancement. Methodology: A quantitative text-mining approach was used. A total of 833 TripAdvisor reviews (2023–2025) were collected using the Apify web scraping tool.. The analysis involved text preprocessing, TF-IDF feature extraction, sentiment classification using the Multinomial Naïve Bayes algorithm, Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) for class balancing, confusion matrix evaluation, and word cloud visualization using Python. Results: The findings revealed that Positive, neutral, and negative sentiments accounted for 88.48%,8.64%and 2.88%, respectively. The application of SMOTE improved the model classification balance, increasing the F1-score from 0.8298 to 0.8596. Words related to staff, service, room, and hotel facilities appeared most frequently within positively classified reviews, indicating recurring discussion themes associated with favorable guest experiences. Conclusions: The findings demonstrate that sentiment analysis can effectively identify guest perceptions and recurring service attributes discussed in online hotel reviews. These insights support evidence-based service evaluation and managerial decision-making, thereby contributing to continuous service improvement and hotel performance enhancement. Limitations: The study was limited to TripAdvisor reviews, and the word clouds reflected word frequency rather than contextual meaning. In addition, the relatively small number of negative reviews may limit the classifier's ability to generalize minority sentiment patterns. Contributions: This study demonstrates how online guest reviews can be transformed into evidence-based managerial insights for service improvement, evaluation, and hotel performance enhancement.
